Guys, guys, what if, just hear me out, what if It's just a kids movie?
#54 to #53 - John Cena (01/28/2013) [-]
No, I don't think so. I'm legally an adult now and I still watch it.
My theory is that the genie is so powerful that he can see events that occur outside of his lamp. (Why would he not know Jaffar got the lamp? well, he was angry at Aladdin and ruminating instead of watching events occur out in the real world).
User avatar #68 to #54 - letmetellyouastory (01/28/2013) [-]
I didn't mean it was only for kids. It's a Disney movie aimed at kids, not just for kids.

Also, the genie is that guy at the beginning who tries to sell the viewer the lamp.

At the end of Aladdin, Aladdin uses his last wish to free the genie from the lamp. Direct to VHS movies aside, who says that, when freed from the lamp, the genie got to keep all his awesome powers? What says that, after flying off into the distance in the end, he didn't flop down into the desert sand, powerless and mortal?

Now, at the beginning of the movie the merchant on the left is trying to sell you said lamp, which the genie took with him while flying off. He attempts to do so by telling you the events of the movie. However, during the course of the movie, the merchant is never seen. If he was never there, how can he possibly know the whole story that lead to the genie's freedom.

Also, the two character's are very similar. Both wear blue with a red band around the waist, have a curly beard.

To seal the ******* deal, both are voiced by Robin Williams

Now that I think of it.. Instead of being a merchant, why not ask genie to make him rich instead of selling him fro a lesser value? ... or he didn't think the lamp was legit and he was just being a douche.

I always found it pretty ******* obvious that they were the same person, I figured it was just Genie's disguise to tell the story.

Also if I recall correctly, Genie and Merchant are the only two characters with 5 fingers, (or 4 fingers, whichever everyone else in the movie didn't have). Also I thought it was supposed to be a understood thing that it was the same guy anyway. And didn't he say he'd have magic still just weaker if he got freed? (Maybe that was part 2 or the Disney channel cartoon though where he said that I was guilty of watching both).

"Robin Williams, the voice of the Genie, also voiced the Merchant. This is because the Merchant was originally supposed to return at the end singing a reprise of the opening song "Arabian Nights", revealing that he himself was at one time the Genie but had transformed into a human. This was changed during production and the Merchant only reappeared at the end of Aladdin and the King of Thieves, singing the "Arabian Nights" reprise that had already been recorded for the original movie."

You disregard the fact that he is a ************* genie.

In another scene, he explains to Aladdin that he would not find another woman like Jasmine in a million (or some other number of) years, the reason being that he has already looked. Perhaps he is able to seamlessly shift between time periods.

It's called breaking the fourth wall.
Deadpool does it "oh so funny!"
Pinkie Pie does it "oh so funny!"
Genie does it "Here's a subtle plot key that can be twisted from its original and clear context into something that seems much more sinister than it ever was."
#38 - flipninefive ONLINE (01/28/2013) [-]
OR the movie is a Disney movie and is meant to be a comedy which includes breaking the fourth wall a bit.

Not everything is a conspiracy.

YOU SEE THIS **** MAN?!
YOU SEE IT?

IT'S THE GENIES ******* PEEPHOLE, SO HE CAN SEE WHAT'S GOING ON OUTSIDE HIS LAMP!
How else would he be able to see and talk to Aladdin whilst in the lamp multiple times in the cartoon series?
