That's the problem, they are game JOURNALISTS. Not Journalist GAMERS. They don't want to get good at a game to report on it, they just want to gather up the minimal info to write a story on it and then send it out to the masses, while they are also getting paid to write good reviews on games by the publishers themselves.

Thats frankly untrue, granted there are some games that are consistently challenging but there are quite a few that arent and are enjoyable for other reasons. Most rpg games arent a challenge but are still fun, the harvest moon type games aswel and hell even visual novels have their place even if i dont play them.

If an RPG isn't somewhat challenging, then it should have been designed as a Visual Novel instead.
I'm not saying you should always just crank the difficulty up until it becomes challenging (lots of games just turn enemies into meat-shields, and makes combat more tedious, instead of more challenging) but i am saying that in an ideal world, RPGs would have fun, challenging, difficulty modes to play.
