dont really know what the controversy was about. but it was something to do with metroid and some other **** that they showed in ea. the fans didnt like it and made a huge racket about it. iwata came out and apologized and said that the next e3 would be a lot better than the last one. (and it was)

That e3 wasn't as good because they had to do a puppet show to cover up the fact that I watamote couldn't be there for his health. He wasn't even there, so how could he have come out and apologized?

angelious is referring to federation force, a widely-hated metroid prime side-game released for 3DS. It had everything gamers didn't want to see from Nintendo and was probably their most recent serious misstep. The federation force trailer had like a 90% dislike ratio.
They more than made up for it in the next E3 where they had breath of the wild demos, the sun and moon trailer, and NX teasers. And in 2017 they had the odyssey trailer and the metroid prime 4 teaser.

Meteoroids thing was literally just a graphic that said metroid and people went nuts about it. Everyone there loved Nintendo and said they pretty much won E3 (I didn't agree but whatever)
The only flack they got was the ****** translator during the Switch unveiling. But what do you expect when you hire a ******* weeaboo who learned all their japanese from watching anime.
