interview with Phil Spencer: You definitely will have the software capability to turn off all the capabilities of Kinect. We want to put the gamer in control. And privacy. The box data information that collects is your data; it stays with you. You are in control of what you want to be collected.
#193 to #126 - beerholder ONLINE (05/28/2013) [-]
but why is it collected?
#220 to #193 - anon (05/28/2013) [-]
research purposes, see what sells, its a passive survey, doesnt interfere with you at all, it only collects data on what they might be able to make money off of, this whole "microsoft is goign to be watching everything you do" is stupid. its just a way to find out what their consumer base wants more of and what it can cut to streamline its business
User avatar #275 to #220 - thewaronbeingcool (05/28/2013) [-]
They shouldn't be collecting that **** in the first place.

I don't want to get caught drinking a pepsi by Kinect and then suddenly get bombarded with pepsi ads.
#219 to #193 - omgusogay (05/28/2013) [-]
I'd guess to recognise your face, your expressions, gestures, voice etc so that it can recognise them better and use them in games.
Here: interview highlights with Phil Harrison (full link at bottom)

_“Microsoft has very, very good policies around privacy. We’re a leader in the world of privacy, I think you’ll find,

“We take it very seriously. We aren’t using Kinect to snoop on anybody at all. We listen for the word ‘Xbox on’ and then switch on the machine, but we don’t transmit personal data in any way, shape or form that could be personally identifiable to you, unless you explicitly opt into that.”

They have designed a modern piece of hardware, which has the capabilities of the chips in the box, plus the power of Kinect, plus the power of the cloud, working in harmony.”

The executive also noted that Microsoft won’t force developers to integrate Kinect into game, and hopes that future uses of the tech will be more appealing to gamers.

“It could be just as simple as a voice command, or it could be just as simple as knowing there’s more than one person in the room at the same time, and being able to automatically populate options and user interface – knowing there are two people playing or three people playing,”

“I think that if you are at the leading edge of technology in the home then you will want the power of Skype working with your TV and with your game experience seamlessly, and being able to switch smoothly between them,” he said.

“Just being able to have the game snap to the screen and have a Skype call on the side doesn’t have to impact the game at all, but adds a degree of socialisation and social features to games that were never there before, so I think that’s going to be very credible and I hope very compelling.”

I saw my PS3 the other day and it literally had lots of dust on it, I slid my finger and it left a mark lol.

set in alternate universe in 1984 (obviously) and there's this on-the-edge kind of neutral person who sort of tolerates the government controlled world he's in. So he goes to work (I think for the controllers of the world) called Big Brother, and the guy, winston smith, meets this girl, Julia.

after some very strangely amazing writing intensity scenes, and a few bouts of forbidden sex, they get caught by the government.

and im not going to spoil it, but the way the guy in the picture is writing "I hate Xbox 1" is a reference to a scene where Winston is in his home, and he snaps, slightly, and, in his diary, writes "I HATE BIG BROTHER" a bunch of times. HE gets caught, and sent to some prison place.

Read it, it's a very good book.

User avatar #58 to #57 - deescalation (05/28/2013) [-]
Unless they come out at E3 and say " we were just kidding, the kinect doesn't have to be on, it's 100% backwards compatible, you don't have to do authentication checks, we don't give a **** what you do with your used games, and all the old microphones and controllers will still work" I don't want one
User avatar #68 to #58 - contradiction (05/28/2013) [-]
they might lol, whats the problem with the controller thing though?
even the 360 and ps3 aren't 100% backwards compatible.
User avatar #69 to #68 - deescalation (05/28/2013) [-]
I was a bit drunk when I wrote that. There's nothing unexpected about them making new controllers, but the fact that the mics are now useless is ridiculous.

and the Xbox 360 and PS3 are somewhat backwards compatible, where the Xbox One is 0% backwards compatible
User avatar #70 to #69 - contradiction (05/28/2013) [-]
well i guess the mic thing is a problem if you bought one of those expensive bluetooth mics. i just use the cheap 20$ headsets so idgaf. but honestly if microsoft goes through with this **** then they are basically commiting suicide. they have to do something to redeem themselves at E3. **** i'm probably not even going to buy either of the next Gen consoles, the Sony fans are just getting annoying(dont take this as me being biased or anything, as of now the Xbox one sounds like **** )

Microsoft's profits per xbone(assuming 8 1-year gold memberships, 1 $60 game/month bought on marketplace, $450 price tag) equal:
(8 x $40)+(96 months x [30% cut of $60])+450=320+(96 months x $18)+450=320+1728+450=$2498

Sony's profits per ps4(assuming 1 $60 game/month bought on ps store and a $500 price tag)=1728+500=$2228

Total profit of pc part manufacturers per pc that beats ps4(assuming 7950 paired with 2500k/fx 8-core, any number of games/month)= ~$800(and dropping)

8 gold memberships? 1 game a month? That assumes a lot for most people's cases.
#176 to #174 - anon (05/28/2013) [-]
I know one game a month is unusual but not unheard of especially considering they are getting rid of used games and lending. You would need 8 1-year gold memberships if you wanted to play online through the whole console cycle though, so that's normal.
User avatar #178 to #176 - durkadurka (05/28/2013) [-]
