Daggerfall is kinda unfair though since the world is simply generated
User avatar #7 to #6 - elyiia (07/12/2014) [-]
Yeah, it's as bad as including Minecraft. If the world is generated it's not nearly as impressive.
User avatar #25 to #7 - wotterpatch (07/13/2014) [-]
It's kinda hard to discount it though seeing as its the size of uranus

and we know how huge that is considering how many dicks you take
#20 to #7 - lordraine (07/13/2014) [-]
Not as impressive?

Do you even know when Daggerfall was made?
User avatar #33 to #20 - victhree (07/13/2014) [-]
Writing a script that spells out every number between 1 and 1000000 is way easier than writing them by oneself.

The only reason why Minecraft was made in 2009 was because no one had made it before, it would've been perfectly possible back then.

BURN EVERYONE ELSE!
User avatar #54 to #53 - thamuz ONLINE (07/13/2014) [-]
The Amarr tried to burn the Jove. Look at how well that worked.

The Minmatar can get a toaster into space with nothing more than the leftover Chinese box and a 9v battery.
User avatar #55 to #54 - greyhoundfd (07/13/2014) [-]
Eeeehhhh no. you're capitals are impressive technology wise, but everything beneath that is just space-junk with an engine strapped to it. Yeah, you can turn a toaster into a space ship, but if you so much as sneeze on it the wrong way it'll combust.
User avatar #57 to #55 - thamuz ONLINE (07/13/2014) [-]
I dunno. The Vargur and Panther are pretty mean. Considering the Loki and the Munin are wicked as well,I'm pretty sure that scum Amarrs armor will shatter under my artillery fire.
User avatar #58 to #57 - greyhoundfd (07/13/2014) [-]
Yeah, they're definitely better than the Amarr's ships, not so much for Caldari or Gallente. Especially not for Jove
User avatar #59 to #58 - thamuz ONLINE (07/13/2014) [-]
Caldari will just slowboat there and hurl missiles at it. Nothing some solid long range jamming and artillery fire.

Gallente..well,autocannons fighting in falloff after I smartbomb the drones.

Or run and hide because I genearlly don't mess with Ishtar pilots..
User avatar #60 to #59 - greyhoundfd (07/13/2014) [-]
Unless they're flying a rohk, in which case they can fight from much closer quarters.
User avatar #62 to #60 - thamuz ONLINE (07/13/2014) [-]
You mean like the Smart bombing Rohk fleets that i've been finding in Minmatar losec lately>?
User avatar #66 to #62 - greyhoundfd (07/13/2014) [-]
Possibly, I transferred from Gallente space join a corp a bit south of Amarr space, where we do mining stuff. I'm just a hauler. If it's in Minmatar lowsec, I haven't seen it.

But all of those games only take place on one planet.

So clearly Mario Galaxy is the biggest game, because you go on like 1,000 planets.

In EVE Online there are around 55 thousand planets you can interact with.

Planets aren't even the point of the game and there are 55 thousand only counting the ones you can do stuff with.

every block in minecraft is a cubic meter, so if the entire world is say 1000 blocks long length and width wise would only 3280ish feet long one way or the other. minecraft, unless modded to be millions of blocks long, is only about the size of 5-6 foot ball fields long one way or the other.
User avatar #192 to #173 - honkan (07/13/2014) [-]
I'm guessing yiu're trolling, but if your not: minecraft.gamepedia.com/The_Overworld#Sizes

"The hard limit where chunks are overwritten is at X/Z of ±34,359,738,368, making the world at most 68,719,476,736 meters wide and long, which is about 4,722,366,482,869,645 km2. When compared to Earth's total surface area, 510,072,000 km2, this works out to be about 9,258,235 times that"

The article goes on to say: "Thee last point a person may still play normally, which in layman terms the very edge of the map is X/Z: 30,000,000" which makes it about 9e+14 m^2, about 1/5000000 of the size mentioned above, or about 1.85 times the size of the Earth's surface area.

There are other ways to calculate the size as well, but as you can see, It's a hell of a lot bigger than a few football fields.
User avatar #191 to #173 - thesoulseeker (07/13/2014) [-]
Actually as far as I know minecraft worlds are limited to a few million blocks on the X and Y axis (I don't remember the exact number), however it is theoretically possible to make a infinite minecraft world if you remove said limit.
User avatar #208 to #173 - jintachi (07/16/2014) [-]
Maybe if you're playing console-peasant-craft. Real minecraft's world is absurdly large and blows every one of these out of the water by over 100x.

Considering that Daggerfall was basically Doom with Magic and NPCs, I don't think it's really fair to compare the size of it's map to other, more modern games.

I mean sure, it's easy to create massive worlds when they only have like 16 pixels per texture. Also everything that moved was a 2D Sprite. But when you get up to actual 3D models with thousands of polygons, with multiple 1080p textures, you start to run out of disk space a bit more quickly.

User avatar #177 to #163 - ieatbengay (07/13/2014) [-]
well if the map is infinitely big but there's only 1 small town when you can actually do anything do you still consider it to be that big?
User avatar #180 to #177 - pedokuma (07/13/2014) [-]
Well yeah, because you can still walk around aimlessly. If it's accessible, then it's part of the game no matter how empty it is. It'll be the most mundane game ever made, but it still counts
User avatar #184 to #180 - ieatbengay (07/13/2014) [-]
to me the unique areas that add to the gameplay are the parts that increase the size of the game, maybe not the map but that was my point
