Under-recognized? Sure.
Under rated would imply the people who played it rated it lower than it should have been. Everyone I know that has played it says it's god damn amazing, and I concur.

The marketing dude! They advertised it to the wrong audience. It's a great game when played by people that actually like Hack and Slash games.

I was a young naive fool, and i followed the marketing relentlessly. I have no idea how people missed the RTS aspect of it. I was shocked when the demo came out, and featured no RTS at all.

What are you talking about?

Not even 4 hours into the main campaign and it basically completely shifts into an rts game.

I mean don't get me wrong, I loved Brutal Legend, but I don't believe your statement holds true.

The problem was that they marketed it as a purely open world hack and slash, but what they neglected to mention was the RTS elements, which as I understand it could be a bit clunky.

oh, and getting demon wings and flying around commanding rock people demon thing creatures to **** the other side up
it allows you to assist yourself, a you hacking and slashing helps in a fight.
