The Last Of Us has a great story and all, but when it's a survival game and it takes more than two headshots to kill a dude, something seriously ******* went wrong

I don't really understand.
Why do you mention that it's a survival game as if that means it should make enemies hard to kill.
In survival games enemies are supposed to be difficult, so you really have to think when it's smart to fight, and when it's smart to run/hide/sneak

Most of the time, the developers made it unavoidable to fight enemies, and when they are nearly invincible, it's very hard to form a connection with the characters when the combat is driving you ******* insane

The fungus on their head acts as an armor that can be hard to penetrate.

No I think you're mistaken. The only time it takes more than two shots for a human is if they have a helmet on. If they have nothing protecting their head then one shot to the dome and it's over, *****

I really enjoyed the game but, for a "survival game" it didin't feel all that surivaly to me.

I found it to be extremely survivaly. Ive never played another game where every single thing you found was so precious. Especially in the first half of the game I never found myself to ever have more than 6 or 7 bullets at any given time, and I was saving them really well too using sneak attacks and melee as much as possible. I was playing on hard though, ive heard that supplies are a bit more generous on the easier difficulties.

It feels more like Metal gear or splinter cell to me all being sneaky and stuff. I didn't really find much survivalness to it.
User avatar #14 to #13 - goondas (07/27/2013) [-]
Yes but with one miss step you can find yourself swarmed in seconds fighting frantically to escape or fend of the enemy with very limited resources. Splinter Cell and Metal Gear usually gave you enough fire power to easily have a shoot out with the enemy and survive. With the last of Us you can kill 2 or 3 guys and be out of ammo and have to get creative in how to deal with the enemy.

Still don't' feel much like a survival type game to me. Not enough survival type stuff. Just felt like a steath based game to me

What kind of things do you consider to be "survival" in a game?
User avatar #17 to #16 - sparkyoneonetwo (07/27/2013) [-]
Like fallout in hard core mode though it's never hard in that game. Stuff like having to eat and drink and sleep and dealing with normal human like stuff in an environment like the last of us or fallout. Like actually having to survive. Another good example is project Zomboid. YOu gotta eat, sleep, drink, change clothing if you get wet, keep your self calm and not board all with dealing with zombies.

Ah I'm starting to see your point. I like doing that in games like Skyrim or Fallout. Even if they arent needed. I essentially like to roleplay. Like i'll never use a fast travel option even when its available, I'd rather have to travel the whole way and plan my route and deal with any disadvantages that some with it. A good game for that is Dragons Dogma. Theres no fast travel option so you have to plan out your inventory and route before hand and try to get to the destination in good enough condition to be able to handle the task/boss and then make it back to town. I loved that game.

I've never played Dragons Dogma

Its a mix between Skyrim and Dark Souls. Very good game if your into challenging games that reward skill and patience instead of holding your hand every step of the way.

thouse are the best kinda games. To many games are far to easy.

it only takes 2 if they have a helmet, and if its a headshot the hit marker will have a line
through it left to right, as well as the traditional marker

I noticed that to be true for enemies wearing a helmet, their helmet flies off after the first shot.
User avatar #2 to #1 - Shramin (07/27/2013) [-]
If it takes more than two, it wasn't a headshot.

If it took more than one bullet, you weren't using a Jakobs!

Armored enemies wear helmet. So it can take 2, the first sends the helmet flying off, the 2nd kills.
