Though I'm a fan of X4 games in general I have to say that Civ just wasn't my kind of thing. The total war series and galactic civilisations were way more fun for me...
inb4 thumbs down because of opinion

total war is actually my favourite game series ever, but i still dont know if i would call it a 4x game. A casual 4x at most

well total war is more about warfare and city building is less focus and more or less "supplyline+ rebel management than city building" (more or less eco city = full money and frontline = full millitary)

If people prefer warfare, don't pick up civ. thjan it is total war (as name describe) vica versa if you want empire builder

im literally ******** myself of excitement over Rome total war 2

I find it hard to thumb you down considering Civ has been on a steady decline since 3 and Total War is the single greatest series of games ever made.

lol at the herald, and seeing this picture makes me think that characters in rome total war had way too many traits, and most were bad. My late game characters were mostly psychotic sex maniacs with no talent for command at all.
Whereas in Shogun your chars get too few of them to be of any real use.

If you wanted good traits in RTW you had to keep your generals busy.
The reason they were all psychotic sex-pots was because you sat them down in the lap of luxury and got rid of all their responsibilities.

Think Mark Antony in Egypt.

Well it's kinda hard to do that if the frontline is somewhere in Gaul for example and I need a governer in Jerusalem to keep things orderly.
Anyways in medieval they weren't lewd morons even if they are governers their whole lives
User avatar #105 to #103 - traelos (07/25/2013) [-]
You stick someone in a poor town for 5 years to learn to run something then send them off to Jerusalem to bring in 10,000 denarii a year. They build the traits working their ass off in Poortown and then flourish in Richville.

Good to know, though I doubt I'll be playing rome any time in the future with Rome 2 soon to be released

I know.

I'm so excited.

Problem is, however, that I've spent most of my gaming budget on the steam summer sale, guess I'll start saving up

I love both of those series (CIV and Total War). I find in Total War everything is much more satisfying (such as conquest and combat) but with CIV you get a real sense of personalization and development in your empire.

I recently pirated Civ5 after years of thinking of the civ's as inferior (because they were), and have discovered that the newest one with the DLC's does not suck a massive dick. Shogun, Rome, Empire, and all those outdo it when it comes to actual fighting and such, but civ is to infantile it's actually fun.
User avatar #81 to #73 - ludislavonac (07/25/2013) [-]
I don't know, I played the tutorial and a bit after that but it just wasn't as fun as total war

User avatar #93 to #75 - historybuff ONLINE (07/25/2013) [-]

um yes hi, I downloaded tunngle and it just does not work
User avatar #236 to #233 - traelos (07/26/2013) [-]
You need to make an account, then you enter a room. Once you enter a room you are in an artificial LAN network with every other person in that room.

I promise you it works I use it all the time.
User avatar #237 to #236 - historybuff ONLINE (07/26/2013) [-]
yeah, its not working at all. Ilolyoucry and I have been trying to make it work and nothing is working. Is there a way we could make our own private server?
