I have a PS3, but all I want are my old PS1 and PS2 games that I was promised backwards compatibility to all those years ago. Ape Escape, Kingdom Hearts, Brave Fencer Musashi, the original Tony Hawks (not this broken HD pack they made) etc.

Luckily I still have the ancient PS2 I won, years ago when Final Fantasy X came out, I won a PS2 + the game (still my favorite, btw), otherwise I probably wouldn´t even have a PS2
Why don´t you just buy a PS2 for the old games? I´ve seen it go away for 20, 30 euro on flea markets, I´m pretty sure you could get one extremely cheap - it will get more expensive, tho, now that it´s been discontinnued.

I don't understand how Microsoft botched it so badly tho. It was an absolutely terrible reveal.

The X-box reveal was great, they showed of the console and some rather awesome features, but they did so using TV to save the games for E3, the show where you're supposed to show of your games.

Microsoft has still showed that they are very game centric by announcing more start exclusives than any other console ever, including the PS4.
#90 to #74 - jestersjake (05/25/2013) [-]
And how can you know how many exclusives Sony will have? You know they're going to show new games on the E3 aswell? And i would bet all my money that of that magical 15 exlusives more than half will be some ****** Kinect-Games like Star Wars Kinect or some other **** . Who needs those?
User avatar #92 to #90 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
Sony has already pulled off most of their exclusives and besides, they're lagging a lot behind Microsoft in terms of exclusives, needing at least 5 more to be equal with Microsoft, but Sony pulled their big guns at their own presentation, I doubt they'll surpass Microsoft in this area.

About the kinect games, I'll quote myself: ''Let's disregard the fact that the new kinect looks good, Microsoft still knows that it has to appeal to a wide base, I think most games will have kinect for menu voice control and small things like yelling in Skyrim, but these things will probably be awesome and even if the kinect 2.0 flops it won't be bad enough for these things to ruin it. Around 4-5 of the games will probably be heavily kinect centered, maybe less. ''
#124 to #92 - jestersjake (05/25/2013) [-]
In which universe is Sony lacking exclusives?

Xbox has Gears of War, Forza and Halo.

And should i start counting how many PS only Titles are out there? Ok let's do this.
Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, God of War, Little Big Planet, Resistance, Infamous, Killzone, etc.. and this are only AAA titles, there are many indiegames like Journey or other games with a smaller fanbase like MAG, Socom or Ratchet & Clank.

If you're not going to show the games, why do you even bother making a "big guns announcement" barely a month before where you're really going to show things
all they did was announcing all the bad stuff beforehand: no retrocompatibility (somewhat justified) pre-owned fee, obligatory kinect, mandatory Internet connection, no support to indie developers. Plus that **** with the Halo TV show. They're presenting a TV show... In the reveal of their console, something they could've perfectly announced separately.
"Here are the specs, here is the system, here is the games", done, you can go home now, thanks for coming. Is not ******* hard.
Sony has only showed the control (which, IMO is stupid, but that's another topic entirely) a vague release date and the specs. Nothing else. Why? Because there's only three weeks left 'till E3, where they'll go out guns ablazing showing the stuff people actually care about.
not NFL, not Netflix. I already have all those things in my PC, I buy a console to play games. And yes, they've announced 15 exclusive games, but for all we know half of those are just ****** kinect games. It's too soon to praise them for "oh, how many exclusives they have!".
All we have right now is what they've shown, and what they've shown was pure **** .
User avatar #91 to #82 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
''pre-owned fee'' This was actually just a rumor that seems to not be true.
''mandatory internet connection'' I have to connect to the internet ONCE every 24 hours, oh the horrror!
''obligatory kinect'' The new kinnect looks great, at least at voice control and other small things, which is the majority of what it's going to be doing, it being plugged in doesn't make other things worse in any way.

''Halo TV show'' Halo has an extensive universe and great stories to share, with Steven Spielberg behind I think this show can become great, and also, it was announced here because you can only view it on the X0ne, so it's very related to the console.
''not NFL, not Netflix. I already have all those things in my PC'' It's not the focus of the console, it's to make things simpler for gamers, with almost instant access to several other features on your TV.
'' ****** kinect games'' Let's disregard the fact that the new kinect looks good, Microsoft still knows that it has to appeal to a wide base, I think most games will have kinect for menu voice control and small things like yelling in Skyrim, but these things will probably be awesome and even if the kinect 2.0 flops it won't be bad enough for these things to ruin it. Around 4-5 of the games will probably be heavily kinect centered, maybe less.

''If you're not going to show the games, why do you even bother making a "big guns announcement" barely a month before where you're really going to show things''
To bring attention to and show of their own console at their own date and time in their own environment.
#100 to #91 - spacestalin (05/25/2013) [-]
I'll give you the preowned fee, though apparently they'll still impose a base price for used games (www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124323-Update-Xbox-One-To-Take-Cut-With-Every-Pre-Owned-Sale)
mandatory internet connection: you're assuming everyone has an internet connection, or one good enough to connect a console. I sure as hell didn't until I moved to another country, and neither did most of my friends. There's no reason for a console to connect to the Internet, it's not ******* Steam.
obligatory kinect: I know a couple 360 users who either hated it and unplugged it the first week or down right never cared about it because it was unnecessary. They're just forcing people to use an unnecessary add-on. Something that will reflect in the final price btw.
Halo TV show: it wouldn't have changed a thing if they would've announced it separately, online.
NFL, etc.: I know it's not the focus of the console. They're trying to make a one-in-all jack-of-all-trades console. That's exactly my problem: they're stepping down the thing that the Xbox 360 did best (centering on games) to try and enter the, already saturated market, of smart TV's, TIVO, etc. If it works, great for them, but it doesn't looks good right now.
kinect games: well, you are giving me this one. I'm sure there are people that like Kinect games and stuff, that's fine, my point was that from those 15 exclusives a good chunk would be kinect games, which aren't exactly popular with a lot of people and is kind of cheating (imagine Sony saying: 18 exclusives for the PS4! ...But 10 of those are 10 different versions of eyepet)

and it wasn't really necessary to bring attention, Sony brought attention by just showing the controls and spec and letting people get hyped ( **** , even that crappy "John Romero's about to make you his bitch" ad brought more and better attention than this)
time and time again, the best way to get attention has been to show the least possible
User avatar #107 to #100 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
mandatory internet connection: But you need an internet connection for most features on steam, phones, tablets, computers, almost everything now, and it's become so common that most of the people that have money and access to an X0ne have access to internet.
obligatory kinect: Even if the new kinect flops and sucks which I doubt, having it plugged in won't ruin anything else, it's not like the kinect deliberately ***** things up, and the final price seems to be rather cheap even with the kinect.

Halo TV show: They announced it with the console because it's directly related to the console considering you can only watch it on the console.
Centering on games: But they're still centering on games, even with all of these different things they still have almost the same specs as the PS4, a built in device supposed to enhance gaming whether or not it works, the kinect, and the most starting games of any console.
Kinect games: Even if a third of the games are heavily kinect centric, which I doubt, then it'd still have more exclusives than the PS4, and this is implying that the kinect will suck, all of the games that only use kinect slightly don't count since the kinect, even if it fails, can't **** them up, and besides, people loved it in Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 and similar.
Also, it wouldn't be the same as your eyepet analogy, since it'll probably only be a third of the games again, and they wouldn't be variations of the same game, they'll be wildly different games with just as much focus and as many features as all of the other games.

Negative or positive attention, attention is still attention and Microsoft got an incredible amount, much larger than Sony initially did I'd say, but it might be different in different areas/countries.
#243 to #107 - Rascal (05/25/2013) [-]
your points are just stupid, i want the xbox to be great but mandatory online is not okay at all in anyway its just a terrible idea. whats the final price since you know could you give me a link to where i can see it?
User avatar #248 to #243 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
Your argument boils down to 'NO U' If you can't refute my points then they still stand.
And no, I haven't seen the final price, I never said I had, I stated that it seems to be rather cheap, which makes sense, since the 360 sold so well partially because it was rather cheap so Microsoft will probably repeat that, and most of the rumors point towards around a 500$ price tag, which is incredibly cheap.
User avatar #255 to #248 - ifightdragons ONLINE (05/25/2013) [-]
but your just guessing about price, guessing has no place in the arguement. mandatory connection would be terrible for loads of people that cant connect or cant afford internet just because you have it doesnt mean others do, the only thing i can see that doing is limiting sales can you tell me anything positive about mandatory online all you said was" these things need it so does this thing if you have money for this you have money to pay for this" not in those exact words but thats what it boils down to and that is just wrong no way around it
User avatar #257 to #255 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
I'm assuming based off of the information we have, since the price point was brought into the argument earlier I had to try and argue about it without official statements.

But it's not wrong, and don't act like your opinion is final, it's like buying a toilet while having no sewer system and complaining about it, internet is basically a necessity for most of these things now, and as the consoles get more modern their necessity for internet increases, and now it has come to the point where we have to be online once a day.
User avatar #263 to #257 - ifightdragons ONLINE (05/25/2013) [-]
its fine to assume but that doesnt mean its okay to debate with your assumption nobody knows it nobody can argue it being expensive or cheap. you still havent told me why it needs to be online? and its nothing like that, i could still play games without online and no the internet is not a necessity many things are internet accessible but my phone doesnt stop working when i dont have wifi
User avatar #264 to #263 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
We're arguing assumptions on assumptions here, we don't know a lot of things about the new consoles and what I majorly argue against are assumptions like: ''The kinect 2.0 will be **** .'' (Which is also what started the argument on our assumptions on the pricepoint.'' ''The 15 exclusives will only be **** kinect games!'' ''The X0ne forces you to pay for borrowed games.'' Which was a rumor that has been denied now.

You want to know why it has to have online? I'll give you an example, back when Halo Reach was released there was discovered a very easy exploit to get your level up, this was fixed very quickly but the online patch couldn't reach people who weren't online, so they had to delevel players over a certain level when they got online, with games becoming more and more open, with more and more features, more and more exploits will be made and situations like this will be found.

Combine this with the fact that more games use a universal leveling system between online and offline, you either have to update everyone or delevel players which could cause other setbacks.

The X0ne also has to have internet for many of it's features, such as dynamic achivements, and games get a lot more patches and more support than ever, making internet and therefore all of these features necessary was a logical advancement.
User avatar #86 to #82 - sannukas ONLINE (05/25/2013) [-]
Microsoft said that the reveal on 22. may isn't about games. How fking hard is it to understand. All the games and **** related to games will be shown at E3. They showed all that media **** on 22. may so they don't have to show it on E3 and they have more time to reveal games.

The way I see it, we should all just wait until E3.

Look at the bright side: With MSoft showing off all the sports, TV, and UI stuff at their unveiling, they'll have less of it to show at E3, and thus, more games to show.

All in all, I think it's too early to judge any of the consoles this gen that have yet to be released.

User avatar #230 to #226 - thewaronbeingcool (05/25/2013) [-]
We don't know what the exclusives are. There is no way of knowing if they'll be good or bad, so there is no point in getting excited about some games that could turn out to be Kinect horse adventures 3.

Microsoft has been **** at E3 for the past few years anyway, usually talking about casual garbage and then 'balancing it out' with just some Halo or Gears of war. I don't expect that to change this time.
User avatar #232 to #230 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
You can't really argue this since it all depends on what happens at E3, however I do think we'll see some great games revealed at from MS at E3.
User avatar #167 to #49 - Fgner (05/25/2013) [-]
Not really an excuse. A console reveal should get people excited about the console. One of the things that gets people excited? Exclusives.

Example:
I ******* want Killzone 4. Therefore I want the PS4. Now. Since the reveal. I need it.

On the other hand I have nothing I want or need from the Xbox One, yet. I don't even know it's GPU flop clock. For a console reveal they sure only revealed Facebook integration and Ghosts.
User avatar #228 to #167 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
A console reveal should reveal the console, which is exactly what Microsoft did, they showed us the console, and plenty of awesome features for it, but they used TV to show them so that they could save their games for E3, where you're supposed to show off games.
User avatar #252 to #228 - Fgner (05/25/2013) [-]
1) For a console reveal, we still don't know much about the console.
2) They didn't exactly show many awesome features according to virtually everyone. They kind of just talked about social stuff, non-gaming features, and then brought up COD Ghosts.
3) No - release day games and exclusives are a console release deal. Again, you need to make people excited, you need to show what the console is ABOUT. Who all is going to be excited when you don't bring up exclusives and release day deals that they'll actually be playing. Especially without backwards compatibilty. Why should we buy this console? Well apparently the boys at Microsoft don't think it's because of the games! Or the graphics power! But because of these gimmicky features nobody is really going to use. You know what gets people excited over a gaming console? A beautiful looking and incredibly fun, unique game. Not Facebook integration.
4) Yes E3 is for games, but that doesn't mean **** . You have one console release - it's your job to properly market and get the hype up. Not say "oh here's some features - now wait two weeks for the usual game convention." Wow. My briches have been shat from excitement.
User avatar #260 to #252 - reretzu (05/25/2013) [-]
1) Oh, except for how the console looks, it's specs, the UI, the controller, a lot of the features, what it can do, and a lot of the new things.
2) They talked about the console, what it could do, how fast it was, and showed us it's features and how it could be used, but it did so using TV, it didn't show TV, it used TV to show us what it could do.

3) You need to show people what you are selling, but doing it all at once is a bad idea, which is my Microsoft chose to show us the console now, and the games when they're supposed to show of the games, it's not like you can't get hyped anymore at E3, hype degrades over time, so you have to try and keep it up with frequent updates.
Microsoft could have shown of a little of the console and a few games, but they'd waste the game reveal and people would complain because they didn't show much of the console.
Now, when we get to E3, Microsoft will be lining up the exclusives, 15 completely new game announcements, still fresh.
4) So what? You lose your ability to get hyped in the 20 days between the reveal and E3? E3 might be the usual game convention, doesn't mean Microsoft can't completely dominate it.
User avatar #270 to #260 - Fgner (05/25/2013) [-]
1) Looks don't mean **** . They didn't reveal specs that matter. We still don't know even a single thing about the GPU, nor the type of memory it uses, nor the CPU's actual specs (only that it's 8 core and that means **** relative to cache sizes, logical processors, clock speed, etc). Oh, and we don't know how it actually plays. Or what it plays. We still don't have a clear understanding of the DRM systems they'll be using - including the used fee and the required online connection. Or how it's live will work.

2) See one.

3) I don't think they'd complain if they didn't talk about Facebook integration and talked about the GPU. I don't think they'd complain if they didn't talk about TV and instead took that time to cover the DRM.

4) Yes - it does. Because Microsoft owned the reveal. But E3 is for all consoles, all developers, all everything at ONE TIME. Microsoft runs a huge chance of being overshadowed by PS4 exclusives, Nvidia Shield stuff, and every other big deal in gaming. The exclusives won't be as big of a deal, the center of attention won't actually be the Xbox games. They're just part of a big potroast.

But we shall see when E3 comes out. And then I can come back and cry miserable from being wrong rub it in your face!

1) So nothing but the few things you said matter? And the whole DRM thing is a rumor that has seemingly been denied, if you're talking about the paying for used games.

3) You are the first and only person that I have heard, and I have heard many, that has complained about the GPU and DRM, all I hear is: ''X0ne just watches TV!'' ''Kinect is evil and sucks'' ''X0ne has no gaems.''

4) And people wanted them to wait and reveal it all at E3? No, reveal the console when you own it, and then save enough exclusive to be able to use them to own E3 anyways. They probably won't be overshadowed by the PS4 exclusives, as they are more, and all unannounced, where the PS4 has fewer, and has already used the initial reveal for most of them.

1) Those all matter to the actual playing of video games.

3) I don't mind if it can watch TV, Kinect is fine - although a bit gimmicky in my opinion - and of course it'll have games. I don't hate the console - I'm just arguing their PR strategy.

4) Fair enough - like I said I'm pretty tired of discussing this. It's more a matter of speculation at the moment. We should wait until E3 - and then we'll see who's right and the winner can flaunt their stuff while the loser licks the winner's boots.

Nice to have a civilized discussion though - thumbs for you.

I don't think the Xbox one is completely lost. not yet anyways.

They screwed up with the reveal. If they had focused on gaming, and briefly mentioned the other stuff, it might have come off a bit better. I think microsofts thought process was "they already know it will play games, lets tell them about the stuff it didn't used to do".

Hopefully the console isn't as retarded as they made it look.

Well the graphics ARE going to be better. The hardware is leaps and bounds above what was available in 2006. Software developers will have much more to work with. The same goes for the PS4.

It seems like microsoft is taking the gamers for granted. So they're spending their time and money marketing to people that DONT already buy their systems and games. They're attempting to expand their consumer base.

now, i am a man who comes up with all sorts of crazy ideas so most of you might totally redthumbrape me, but try to consider listening to what i have to say here... what if people wanted to buy a gaming console solely for playing games instead of cramming it full of stuff i don't want to pay for that i can already do on my pc?

I'm not really into console gaming but man, this has to be the worst concept of a video game console I've ever seen in my entire life. It's just... God. How could they be so freaking stupid?

I've always preferred pc over consoles. MFW this doesn't concern me

At least the PS4 is trying to stick to games.

Poor Nintendo...

Being able to do more is not a bad thing. Everyone is just butthurt because they think that since they added a lot of new features to the xbox one it means microsoft isnt focused on gaming. The hardware specs are pretty legit and the kinect controls actually seem useful. All i care about is that my games will look and run great. The added stuff is just another bonus. Plus microsoft has always had better quality games and a better online service than sony.

Everyone seems to forget that Bungie's Destiny is coming out in a few months. It still plays games. If you think about it, Microsoft doesn't want you to stop playing the Xbox, that's why they integrated **** like your TV and IE onto the console.

Gameplay hasn't really changed a whole lot recently.
Why would they talk about that?

Yes, of course it's going to play games.
That's a ******* given.
So they talk about everything else, because console a is identical to console b in terms of how it plays games.

I'm fine with the systems I have now. I've had PS3 for a while now, and I recently got a free 360. I'm pretty content with what I have.
