Naa, to do Sonic 2014, you need to show the ridiculously long legs of all the characters.

Yep, that's me alright! I originally made the page.

The people that made SOTC are making a game called The Last Guardian, it's not a sequel though.

Yeah, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Guardian
It gives the basics of what it's about, not sure when it's out though, they did cancel it for a little while and have only just recently put it back into development

I agree. The emptiness of the open world you are thrown into, with no explanation of how it got that way, where everyone went... just gives you that ominous feeling.

They're set in the same world. Made by the same people.

SotC is supposed to be in the past, I think. They are linked, but I don't think anything official has been released on HOW they are linked.
User avatar #143 to #109 - trisketthebiskit (06/01/2014) [-]
i could tell you but it needs to be in spoiler because it needs to be played because its so epic so i believe at the end of SOTC the main character is consumed by some huge evil demon monster that when defeated makes the character revert to a baby and when he gets a little older again the events of ICO unfold of coarse this was just my understanding of it but its not entirely canon
User avatar #144 to #143 - Bion ONLINE (06/01/2014) [-]
From what I understood, the time frame of SotC was way, way before Ico. 100+ years.

Meaning that the boy in Ico couldn't have been Wander, but seeing as the baby at the end of SotC had horns, he perhaps had a son and carried the bloodline down to the boy in Ico. Thing about that, is, that a boy with horns would never be accepted in the time and age... So that theory has its hard points. There are tons of theories about it, but none have been confirmed. I wish they would have. I hate open-ended things. =(

Lemme set you ****** straight of Shadow of the Colossus.
You better buckle up and throw on your big boy panties because here's a 5 point digital bitchslap of a list of why this game isn't just "16 bosses and nothing else"
1) This bitch is art. Not just because it's a video game with some pretty graphics either. Take a 20 minute walk out of your starting temple and you'll immediately see what I'm talking about. You're looking at some kickass sprawling landscape with everything between huge ruin filled deserts to huge clifftop lakes with waterfalls, from moss covered forgotten cities to underground coliseums, all fully available from the very start in the open world free roam.
2) I hope you brought your ************* thinking caps because this ***** is gonna spin your head with strategies. While the only natural enemies in the game are 16 bosses, each one is ******* huge (Seriously about half of them border dungeon size. The one in the picture is about mid sized) presents itself with a perfectly unique challenge and strategy to defeat it. Let alone it doesn't have the "Legend of Zelda" effect. (I.e. "oh hey look a super cool useful item I just found lets spam it at the boss to kill it") Oh hell no. You go through this entire game on the first try with nothing but your trusty horse, some dinky ass sword (Not some crazy op explosion launching bleach **** or nothin either) and a basic as hell re-curve bow and arrow set. (You can get more items ((And access some more secrets and hidden things)) on the new game+ as well. And even more on the hard mode new game+)
3) Mother. ******* . Theories. This game gives you little to no story (Probably only having about 10-15 dialogues throughout the entire thing) meaning you actually have to do something unheard of in video games this day and age. Think. Check anywhere online about it and you'll find several different theories to the meaning of the game. Not to mention the story is actually quality and pretty damn cool.

It's not art just because they've designed the world with all that in it, it's art because it tells you about the history of the world, it begs questions, it makes you feel lonely. As the game progresses you're sympathizing more with the colossus, yet you don't stop because they've made you care more about a silent damsel by using a nameless I know his name is wander but it doesn't tell you that protagonist who only ever says Agro
User avatar #278 to #267 - damianblu (06/02/2014) [-]
Well yeah that was part of the "Not to mention the story is actually quality and pretty damn cool" bit. I just wanted to let people find it out for themselves.

The game is seriously a masterpiece.

User avatar #250 to #137 - damianblu (06/02/2014) [-]
Okay sorry that was a mere generalization directed towards games like Call of Battlefield, Saints Row/GTA#, and Skyrim for instance.
User avatar #281 to #108 - damianblu (06/02/2014) [-]
I'm just gonna say this as though you havn't played it because I don't know if you have This game does it in a different way though. It's not really thinking on how to make your character build or simply defeat a boss, but more of taking a literary analysis type view on the game and realizing what's actually happening. I can't say much about it without spoiling the entire story though. Unless you want me to spoil it.
I can spoil the entire thing explaining this further if you'd like? Because I have one hell of an interpretation/theory about the game.
User avatar #283 to #281 - damianblu (06/02/2014) [-]
This is super redundant and I meant to delete that last line but forgot to.
#67 to #61 - damianblu (06/01/2014) [-]
I meant to attach this **** to the last one. Oh yeah, did I mention this is the first enemy in the game? The tutorial's barely finished by the time it throws this badass at you.
I digress.
Onward!

4) Controls. Shadow of the Colossus has often been criticized about its camera controls while ******* around being a little too touchy or the camera being awkwardly placed. Which makes sense if you're just taking a nice horseback ride through the forest or a having a little giggle by the lake and having some snow white **** with the friendly animals of the Cursed Lands between colossi. But this game isn't about melodramatic strolls and finding inner peace via horseback journeys, nor is it about pointlessly grabbing onto hawks to fly over a huge abyss of a canyon or seeing how long you can hold onto a fish tail while underwater (Yeah you can actually do all that **** though and it's fun as hell.) It's about kicking giant stone demon monster ass all over this place like the badass lovesick ginger you are. And for that, the camera is perfect. Let alone the controls for anything in the game. Shadow of the Colossus probably has some of the most comfortable controls out there when it comes to flying around and not falling to your death on some pissed off mountain with a bad hair day. In fact, I'd say that once you get used to them, these controls couldn't possibly be better. They all feel very natural to the game and once you get them down you can even find out some helpful hints (a few of which are on horseback, like hanging off the side of the horse, doing a quick turn around, or standing upright in the saddle and jumping off to get a boosted jump height.) The game gives you all the essential controls, but you can just figure out some by ******* around and it gives you a great sense of accomplishment when you do.

Next comment again bitches.
User avatar #68 to #67 - damianblu (06/01/2014) [-]
And finally, possibly the most important point of all.

5) It treats you like a person. Some of you are probably wondering what the **** I'm gonna spew at you here, but just hold out. This **** is a revelation waiting to happen.
Are you ready?
This game stimulates your mind and makes you think. Now I know thinking was earlier in the list so before all you guys whine "oh you couldn't even think of 5 reasons without doubling" hear me out.
Most games these days are mindless and instant gratification based. Meaning you look at something, click, and it's dead. Easy as that. Or you get your hand held through the story and have things explained to you in stupidly insulting ways which are completely unrealistic to actual conversations and human interaction. (Cough Skyrim Cough)
Well, this game gives you none of that. Even further, I'd venture to say that this game gives you the opposite. It gives you such little information about everything in such a natural way (none of that "I ventured across the Forbidden Valley and into the Cursed Lands to bring back my girlfriend by killing 16 colossi which will make everything happily ever after" ****** ******* dialogue scenes.) by using ACTUAL CONVERSATION STYLE DIALOGUE. As in, people don't over elaborate stuff so that even a 6 year old can understand the story perfectly clearly, no, this game only gives you what would actually happen. It gives you the real deal.
Plus if you actually play the game for more than the 6-8 hour straight playthrough gameplay you'll notice all the badass scenery and locations, and maybe even go exploring. Or lizard hunting. Collecting fruit to boost your health. Maybe even cliff diving. You have the option to re-fight any colossi by finding their corpse and praying in front of it at any time as well. And there are a few locations that are totally unreachable until a few playthroughs through for the addicts (Like myself.)

In short: this is one of the few games I'd have the nerve to give a perfect 10/10.

Okay so this is just copied since two of you asked it. The spoilers can actually be spoilers on this just heads up.

As well as the 16 bosses you've got a massive free roam world with all kinds of stuff to explore and do and alot of mindless fun to be had. You can go swimming or find hidden beaches, explore forests, hunt for small animals and discover ones you could have easily overlooked For instance, turtles, eels, hawks, doves, etc..

There are also some really cool secrets Like a hidden path to the top of the Shrine of Worship. Where the ending cut-scene takes place. and at least a couple easter eggs.

The main gameplay is entirely open world free roam. Meaning that rather than just getting 16 fights in a linear level style gameplay, you're free to wander Coincidentally, Wander is the main characters name the vast wilderness of the forgotten land and just take in the world around you. The game is beautiful, especially for the PS3 HD version. I've probably spent 5 times as long just meandering around loitering and exploring all over the place than fighting the bosses.

Generally, I'm a firm believer of the saying "the needs of the few out-weights the needs of the many". But this isn't a life or death situation, it's the internet, and, to be frank, there's no better way to be swarmed by haters than expressing your opinion.

I love shadow of the colossus, but I disagree with the fact everyone is hating you just because you like something that they don't. If you were shoving your beliefs down other people's throat, it would be valid, but not when you muttered a single "no".
