Ezio wasnt his ancestor. It was project 16's ancestor. In the beginning for AC2, Desmond gets Ezio's files loaded in his brain, before leaving the facility (sorry, cant remember the name of the company)

Havent played AC3 yet, so don't know about that.

Ezio was Desmond's ancestor. He was just also Subject 16's ancestor.

Yeah. In AC: Revelations, Subject 16 explains to Desmond how they're distant cousins.

I am an ancestor to one of the men who assassinated franz ferdinand.

That would be kind of awesome if the guys that assassinated franz weren't completely retarded.

Even if you only go back to the 13th century the ammount of ancestors you have is greater than the ammount of people ever to have been on this earth. So if you are northern european you have almost a 100% chance you are related to charlemagne and other great mediveal characters. So pretty much everyone would make a good ezio.

I traced one line of my heritage back to Charlemagne, wanted to take a couple dozen back that far but I have things to do in the next twenty years.

I'm American, with one strand of my family only three centuries removed from England. Also, one of my ancestors was the first man to bring tobacco back to Europe from the Americas. Take that European lungs!

The animus basically reads your DNA. It's impossible to relive the life of someone you're not related to.
