They're a combination of Images, Video, and Music as well as other media, brought together in a package that's both nice to look at, nice to listen to and great to play.

So tell me again without sounding like a moron how this isn't art. Because you can't. It doesn't matter how right you think you are, because you're still and always will be, wrong.

It was created using a computer program, not by an artist. The computer renders the graphics and ****, the programmer just types **** in. Really doesn't take that much talent to type stuff... it doesn't belong in the same museum that houses beautiful paintings and sculptures. It's a disgrace.

you can make music and pictures on a computer using programs, is that still art?
and making a video game is not easy, you may think its just typing but there's a lot of though and time put into them, and entering computer code isn't easy. I feel that video games allow people to interact and experience it on their own making their own connections and their own experiences as they play. that is what are does.

you sir are wrong. Art makes you feel something and makes you connect to what you are seeing and hearing. you are very ignorant if you prospective of art is just paintings and music, it comes in many other forms such as dance, and yes in this case video games.
With new technology video game designers have the ability to make something truly miraculous and moving using their imaginations, just like artists.

The human has the idea and the computer actually makes it. I can think of a painting but if I can't make it myself it's useless. It's basically like thinking of what to paint than going to another artist to actually make it for you. It was your idea, but the other person actually made it come to life.

The big deal isn't about the graphics...it's about the story, the gameplay, the features. and yes there are companies who just go in and crap out sequel after sequel (CoD), but those games? they aren't considered art. it's games that actually have a compelling story, incredible environments, and kick-ass gameplay that are considered art. It's digital art, it has to have precision just like a painting, but interactive.

That's not ******* art. Books don't belong in museums. Game play has nothing to do with art. Video games aren't art and they never will be. How the **** is a video game going to be next to a Picasso painting? It doesn't belong. They have the music hall of fame which is basically a museum for music, open up a video game hall of fame. That's fine. Just don't house a video game in the same building as real art.

What makes you think that someone using a computer to produce games can't be considered an artist? Isn't it just a different method of creating art? Some people pain, others draw, but very few make amazing video games, and I'm not just talking about graphics. Braid has an amazing story, without being all about how the game looks. And Oblivion had an amazing music score. Video Games are just a way people can make their art interactive. That is how I think of it anyway.

The difference is when someone paints, the human is painting. When they make the good graphics, it's the computer making the graphics. The human is just typing in ****, no real artistic talent.

actually not the computer is displaying the models as the person crafts and sculpts the character and environments. the computer is measly a tool used my the makers to generate their works of art. that's why video games have art directors.

So you are saying that a human didn't produce the story that comes from the game? Or that people didn't make the music that goes into the games? I can see where you are coming from with the good graphics argument, and it is a decent point, but there are so many more aspects to a game than how the game looks.

How is that not a good counter-argument? Books and music don't belong in art museums... they have a separate music hall of fame which is basically a music museum. Keep it there. Make a separate video game museum to put the games in, that's fine.

Adding on to that, it is true that not all game companies are making video games because it is their passion or they want people to play a good game and enjoy themselves, but only because these companies want to make money. I'm talking about companies like E.A. So, even though I still consider it an art form, some video games can be not very good art. Like if someone splattered black paint on a canvas and tried to sell it for a million dollars.
