Zelda is named after the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda Fitzgerald.

"She was a famous and beautiful woman from all accounts, and I liked the sound of her name. So I took the liberty of using her name for the very first Zelda title." - Shigeru Miyamoto

Miyamoto actually named Zelda after F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife Zelda

"Hearing of American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife Zelda, Miyamoto thought the name sounded "pleasant and significant".[22] Paying tribute, he chose to name the princess after her, and titled his creation The Legend of Zelda."

Delta in Japanese Katakana would be "Deruta", not "Zeruda".

The first one's bullcrap. Zelda in katakana is Zeruda. Also, Celes is named after the asteroid Ceres, which in Japanese can be romanized either way.

The title of the Metroid series was originally used to describe the hero, and was created by fusing the words "Metro" and "Android" together. One of the developers thought that Samus' suit looked like an android and that her traveling around underground was like taking the city metro.

No one mentioned it yet, so Tidus actually doesn't have to do with tide. It comes from the Okinawan word Tida, meaning sun. Yuna means moon in that language, also.
