I must be one of the few cannabis users who actually know that it's not good for you.
**** , half the stuff we do isn't good for us, the food we eat, the lifestyles we live.
I think Bill Hicks summed it up beautifully.

"Here is my final point...About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography...What business is it of yours what I do, read, buy, see, or take into my body as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet? And for those who are having a little moral dilemma in your head about how to answer that question, I'll answer it for you. NONE of your ******* business. Take that to the bank, cash it, and go ******* on a vacation out of my life."

I totally agree, but in certain socialist countries (I'm looking at you EU) people that are heavy drug addicts cannot contribute to society, and thus the tax payers have to pay for their lives.

They are generally laws preventing people from self harm. I'm not saying that I support marijuana being illegal but if you are part of a society you become a part of the society and it becomes their business.

Well, smoking it isnt exactly healthy for you, but researchers found you were less likely to get cancer if you smoked weed or if you smoked tobacco with weed rather then just tobacco by itself. So I guess you can say its "less unhealthy".

Ill try to get the link of source if I can find it.

I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke. Well, I used to, but I've never really been drunk or had much alcohol. My friends showed me what that was like and I decided early on it wasn't for me.

Anyways, I am METICULOUS ABOUT MY HEALTH. I eat local foods without any growth hormones. I avoid GMO's. I don't eat sweets. EVER.

I might still get hit my a car or some **** . But I'll feel great until I do.

However, I will NEVER **** on anyone who has a different lifestyle than me. That's just being an asshole. I might say "dude, think of your body" every now and then because I'm generally concerned but that's it.

thing is though, if one person in the world is doing something to endanger his health, not affecting other people, that's one thing.
but other people will see him do that thing he's doing, and be interested in it, and eventually commit to it. influencing people to try health-hazardous actions, in a way, would be harming other people, because it would be increasing the amount of people that are doing it. it is ultimately their decision, yes, but they are still being influenced to do it, through propaganda, deceit, misinformation, or opinions.

but... drugs and alcohol directly affect others around you if you take them. Innocent people are killed all the time by drunk drivers. One of my friends was smoking pot and decided to drive. She was in the car with 3 other people when she ran a stop light and their car was crushed by a truck. All of them were killed instantly. ******** it doesn't affect others.

inb4 shut up phaggot 420 blaze it

maybe we should ban cars, because theyre so dangerous.
User avatar #117 to #115 - lolfire (04/23/2013) [-]
>as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet.

No exceptions. As long as the use doesn't cause direct physical / financial harm to another then you should be allowed to do whatever you want.
User avatar #225 to #117 - firstresponder (04/23/2013) [-]
how is a drunk driver who runs over and kills a pedestrian not DIRECTLY harming somebody?
#121 to #117 - wagastragas (04/23/2013) [-]
thats like saying, i can shoot bullets to the sky as long as i dont harm anyone.

you arent directly shooting others, but you are creating chances for others to get hurt.
just like drunk ppl dont think twice before driving they are too intoxicated to care/notice
User avatar #126 to #121 - lolfire (04/23/2013) [-]
As long as there is no "reasonable chance" of harm occurring then it should not be a problem. Now the drunk driver you have suggested, it is reasonable to believe that his actions will, directly cause physical harm to somebody, (hitting them) or indirect financial harm, (damaging property).
Indirect harm is recoverable, such as paying the person to cover any damage caused to their property.
Direct harm is not recoverable, so therefore the physical harm is the problem.
Now as I have stated "as long as I do not harm another human being" the key phrase here is as long as the creation of the dangerous situation such as getting into the car would invalidate that part of the statement, there making the person liable for all damage caused.

As for the bullets, if reasonable harm is not forseeable then the duty of care assumed by the taking of illegal substances / legal substances etc is invalidated. You owe no duty of care to a person if the harm caused is unforseeable in the circumstances (such as a bullet falling and hitting somebody)

I smoke quite often and I know it's not good for me (but it's still not bad enough to be really considered a schedule 1 drug). My major concern isn't about my health though, it also affects me academically and the way society thinks of me. Still, we live in a hypocritical world where it's legal to get drunk yet we get fined for getting high.

inb4 who cares what society thinks. (healthy social interactions are very important)

I agree with you entirely, but when people get in my face about not smoking weed it does impact my life, and as such I despise pot-heads.

Now that's not to say everyone who smokes pot is a pot-head. Both of my sisters smoke and so do several of my friends. I don't condone their behavior, but I'm not going to tell them what to do with their lives.
#31 to #23 - John Cena (04/23/2013) [-]
Weed is banned mostly because a person, when high, barely acknowledges his actions. It's not banned because it's bad for you, it's banned because it makes you act like a retard, which can be bad for others too. The same reason was for banning alcohol, but hey, depriving people of alcohol made it worse, so now we use, but with tons of restrictions.
User avatar #90 to #31 - abesimpson (04/23/2013) [-]
You obviously never been high in your life, dear anon. One is fully aware of his actions. Marihuana does not make you hallucinate, it does not impair your motor skills and it doesn't make you do things you wouldn't normally do that could make you regret it.
#354 to #90 - John Cena (04/24/2013) [-]
Tell that to those who banned it for that very reason.

There is a reason to keep it from people..

The banned cannabis because The DuPont company spent millions securing patents to make paper from wood pulp, and didn't want paper from hemp to replace it.

Selling weed decriminalised and taxed is a good idea. Im not a "420 BLAZZEIT FAGGOT" user, Infact I only ever had 3 joints in my entire life, and that was 5 years ago, but c'mon, no one died from weed

Food and our lifestyles aren't what hurt us, over-indulgence of those things is whats bad for us.
Marijuana is bad for you as far as Emphysema and Loss of ability to breathe well, but say you eat it, without over-indulging, or vaporize, it isn't harmful at all.
User avatar #179 to #25 - deathcampforjewtie (04/23/2013) [-]
Exactly! It's not the marijuana that kills! It's the smoooooooke, the smooooooke! Cancer, it's the smoke, heart disease, it's the smoke, respitory disease, it's the smoooooooooke, it's the, it's the inhalation, of the smoooooooooke, the smooooooke! If they want to obtain their cannabis, it's okay, it's the smooooooooooooooooooooooooke!
User avatar #27 to #25 - lolfire (04/23/2013) [-]
Well inhaling the crude combustion products of burning plant material is going to be bad for you no matter what it is. That's a given.
But things like junk food are bad no matter how little you eat.
Trans fats are bad regardless of quantity.

Cannabis is like everything else, as long as it's in moderation it's not going to affect you in a negative way. And you're more likely to get respiratory conditions from breathing in city air than cannabis smoke. Pollution is a **** ton worse for your health than cannabis smoke.
However, as long as it's not hurting anyone else, no one should have a say in a persons use.
