I'm neutral in this debate. One thing that annoys me tho is that the anti-weed people say that kids can get it. If kids can go into a dispensary and get pot, they deserve it.

"Marijuana makes your life dull and wasteful. Guaranteed. "

No, not with proper self-discipline.

And in terms of risks skydiving has a death ratio while Marijuana on the other hand, doesn't. Simple as that..

This didn't take into account the amount of money it would cost to regulate, grow, ship, package, and stock it.

It would benefit the economy but by simple fact that using the drug at all completely incapacitates a person from doing anything productive for hours is just not a good sales pitch to politicians, unlike other legal recreational drugs, it takes many uses to completely mess you up. I say legalize it but be aware of the consequences it might bring with it. The public will not want it legalized, I don't want to walk down the street and smell that terrible **** on people, and I grew up in a bad neighborhood and stoners were really frightening to me because they were unhinged and you never knew what they were capable of, hell my friends were afraid of a group of them because a stoner thought it was funny to throw a small child in front of a moving vehicle.

In 2010, we collected 2.1 trillion (yes, trillion) in tax revenue.
Also, we're in a debt of 14.4 trillion.

Now tell me how useful that drop in the bucket 20.9 billion would be. Go on, I'll wait.

The only reason it costs so much in the first place is because it is illegal. If it was legal anyone could grow it and the price would drop dramatically.

It would not really help Americas Health Problem though, Fast food Cigarettes, alcohol and weed. They want you to buy it then run away from the cops and lose weight.

I have smoked weed and i enjoyed it but i honestly don't think it should be legalized, yeah the punishment should be muuuch less but i honestly don't think it would have much good to do the system. And it would probably increase the drug violence in central and south America because they're not gonna like losing their buisness

It isn't practical to expect tax revenue on something that is so easily privately grown. Anybody can grow it...which is what's happening now. That is why it is so easy to get compared to other products (alcohol, tobacco, etc.) which are not all that easy to produce in a private environment. Yeah, it's going to happen regardless but it is illegal primarily because it can't be taxed efficiently or regulated. Also the fact of safety; don't know what pesticides are used, etc, which can cause serious harm when consumed.

The revenue for weed is so high BECAUSE it is illegal. If it is made legal, more people will supply it, driving the prices down. The demand probably won't change much, because anyone who wants to smoke weed already does. Increase in supply with no change in demand = lower prices, which translates into MUCH lower revenues. Even if they did tax the **** out of it, to counterbalance that, why would anyone spend all that extra money on taxes, when, like I said, they already smoke it? Meaning they already have a dealer, who they already have a trusted relationship with, who can get it to them for the same price as always, with no taxes? Even if they make it legal doesn't mean the black market for it will disappear, and that will mean that they still have to pay for drug enforcement. Legalizing MJ will not benefit our economy at all.
