Well i remember my great grandpa saying it once, i was confused as **** and asked to see his scar. He called me a dumbass and beat me, he was a very angry old Norwegian man.
User avatar #54 to #51 - screamingdemon (05/15/2013) [-]
Last time this was stated here, Swedes (including me), Danes and Norwegians all stated that they had never heard of it, nor could they find it anywhere on the internet.
But they might mean "Nords" as in the race in TES.

I, personally believe that this is true. Although I have no source of anything to back me up. It's the game's fluff, anyway.
HOWEVER!
There's something someone should research: Greg Keyes' Elder Scrolls novels. There might be something relating to this somewhere. (I'm currently reading Infernal City)
#12 to #2 - anon (05/15/2013) [-]
no, this is not true. as a Dane with extensive nordic knowledge, i can tell you that there is no such saying as "Tage en pil til kn├Žet" or taking an arrow to the knee in any form.

no way it's Finnish.

to us an arrow to the knee is just an arrow to the knee.
User avatar #159 to #2 - lordsugardaddy (05/15/2013) [-]
No it isn't true, when they say "took an arrow in the knee" it's actually an in joke by Bethesda referencing the fact that there are no Greaves in Skyrim, and are instead merged with Armor - There is nothing in Elder Scrolls lore that suggests this is slang for proposing.
#135 to #2 - thumbpadawan (05/15/2013) [-]
I don't think so. If it is, it's mostly unintentional. It's really a joke about how Skyrim doesn't have any greaves, unlike other Elder Scrolls games

Wow thanks! I also didn't know that if a girl sneezes after unprotected sex the semen will propel out of her vagina and prevent pregnancy.

Thanks random people on the internet.
#269 to #157 - terrorrizor (05/16/2013) [-]
Here I'll just copy what I posted to some other guy so you can learn to use critical thinking skills and stop being a ******* .

Taking a knee means getting on one knee and that could have derived from taking an arrow to the knee, because you'll get down on one knee when that happens. And when that usually happens more often than not (because not everyone is a soldier or whatever) it's because someone is proposing.
#93 - caesarslegion (05/15/2013) [-]
While it's a fun and nice thought to think that, just because of all the rage it caused, I don't believe this. I tried searching up Nordic slang (harder than you might think) and I couldn't find anything that points to; "arrow to the knee" being slang for getting married, unless someone can provide me with a source that proves this, I call ******** .
User avatar #170 to #139 - xacuop (05/15/2013) [-]
wow, RinDarkcrest (who answered that question) must be really credible

yeah what a great start for a critical thinking "Learn critical thinking skills ************ ."
you're a rude person, I don't disscuss with you
#300 to #297 - terrorrizor (05/16/2013) [-]
You're just saying that because you have nothing else to discuss with me huh? My answer doesn't leave much open for conversation.
And I'm not a rude person, if you look at the context it'd be just like me saying "Hey why don't you learn how to read between the lines?", the thing is you see the word **** and assume it's a bad word, or a rude word. And no word is bad in and of itself. It's how you use it, and I used it to relate a point to you and grab your attention. I didn't mean to be rude or offend and the only reason I'd think to say that line was offensive is if I added "bitch" or an exclamation point.

THE MEME IS A LIE
#64 - anon (05/15/2013) [-]
Well actually the saying comes from how in the game they removed greaves as a armor option and since greaves protect your legs the lost of them means you can easily get hit, so the arrow in the knee comes from how you can't protect your legs.
#242 to #64 - tablesidegrain (05/15/2013) [-]
Where the hell do you have a confirmation on that?
