Black and White are shades but not colors but I see what you mean.
User avatar #89 to #88 - Redfinale ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
in what realm of existence do you live in that black and white are not colors? While the description now might seem contradictory, Black is the absence of all other color and white is the inclusion of all other color (or vice versa, cant remember which half the time) and as such are colors of their own. Do you claim they aren't because they aren't seen in a rainbow? It's like saying cake isn't food even though you mix other things that can be food on their own to make it
User avatar #127 to #89 - pokemonstheshiz (09/07/2013) [-]
black is both the absence of color and full of color. It's only the absence when it's literally nothing. Objects that are black absorb all colors in the spectrum of visible light and reject none. Since you only see colors that are reflected, you don't see any colors.
And white is the opposite, rejects all colors. So in a way, they're both.

Both black and white are classified as shades, along-side grey, so they are not colours.
User avatar #105 to #99 - Redfinale ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
That right there is kinda showing that white and black are not shades/tints because the two are added to colors to make them lighter or darker. Looking up Black and White as well will say that "Black/White is the color of...."

Ruby, Sapphire, Diamonds, and Pearls are recognized more as gems. Not colors.
User avatar #31 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Colors was never really a theme though.
The first gen was colors, second gen was low-value precious metals, third gen was low-value precious stones, fourth gen was high-value precious minerals, fifth gen was shades and sixth gen will be dimentions.

The closest thing to a theme here is really the devices:
Gen 1 predicted GBC, Gen 2 predicted the improved electronics (for which precious metals are used) in GBA cartridges, at Gen 3 it predicts the backlit screen of the GBA SP. Then it skips a step since there was no game released with the SP in mind as Gen 4 represents the increased value of the DSes compared to the GB series, Gen 5 represents to much improved color contrast on the newer DSes and Gen 6 represents the 3D functionality of the 3DS.

Just you wait for the third edition to be announced and you'll see. They're named this way to reference the fact that this is the first Pokémon game to be in 3D.
#34 to #31 - exxcezz (09/07/2013) [-]
Pretty sure second gen was: Silver, Gold and Crystal.
I wouldn't call that "low-value", I don't even think I would call crystal a metal at that point.
I do realise that crystals include snowflakes which aren't that expensive... But they also include diamonds, which are pretty expensive. Which I would call high-value.

I don't see any precious minerals in the fourth gen version, would you be as kind as to remind me what those are called again?
User avatar #35 to #34 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Well, low-value minerals then. But crystals are used in advanced circuitry as well in the form of silicon semiconductors and crystal oscillators.
And Gen. 4 was Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. Diamond is the most valuable gemstone, Pearl is the most valuable organic mineral deposit and Platinum is the most valuable precious metal.
#49 to #35 - verby ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Silver and gold are high value minerals.
User avatar #50 to #49 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
They're high value for being so abundant, but they're low value for being precious minerals.
#51 to #50 - verby ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
They're high value because of their lack of abundance. I feel like you're tripping over your words here
User avatar #52 to #51 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
There is enough gold in the earth's crust to cover its entire surface up to our knees. Think about that for a minute.
#37 to #35 - exxcezz (09/07/2013) [-]
Then again it would be just as correct to say second gen was high value minerals then.
But then again it all depends on how you define mineral.
User avatar #40 to #37 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Nah, gold and silver aren't really worth that much when you look at the scale of things, and crystal was only used as a generic denominator for crystalline growths, which are usually in the form of quartz, a rather common silicon-based mineral, which is the form of crystal used in crystal oscillator. Alternatively it can be interpreted as crystal glass, which is still silicon-based.
#43 to #40 - exxcezz (09/07/2013) [-]
I don't know what you compare things

But for your information 1 gram of gold goes for 45$.
Doesn't sound like much or? Then lets compare it in weight and the size of a mansion.
It's a high-value material. I don't know how you fail to see this?
User avatar #46 to #43 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Gold is $49/g, platinum is worth $53/g, lutetium is worth $100/g
A 5 carat diamond, which would weigh 1g is worth tens of thousands, up to hundreds depending on quality.
And a CPU can be worth even more per gram.
#61 to #46 - exxcezz (09/07/2013) [-]
Gold is still the 3rd most valuable metal in the world. So it is still a high value metal. No Sure you can always find something better.

You can't compare a CPU which is made from several other materials with one elemants. I dunno why you even mentioned this.
User avatar #90 to #61 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
I mentioned it because, as I said, while gold may be valuable for how common it is, it's not that expensive in the grander scale of things. Gold is no longer a rare commodity only for royalty and nobility to own, everyone owns some, be it in electronics or jewelry.
#120 to #90 - exxcezz (09/07/2013) [-]
"They're high value for being so abundant, but they're low value for being precious minerals." You said it yourself. Dunno why we are evne discussing this.

Sure they are more common today then they were 100 years ago. But everything is more common today. Another 100 years and what is "high valued" today will be more common in the future.
User avatar #123 to #120 - TheMather ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Because that's a pretty key point. Gold is valuable only compared to other abundant stuff. In the grand scale, it's cheap.
Like marble; it's valuable for a stone, but it's dirt cheap for something generally recognized as a luxury commodity.

Another thing that's a LOT more valuable than gold; human organs. But you don't see us treating our own bodies like they were, well, worth their weight in gold.
#141 to #123 - exxcezz (09/07/2013) [-]
Then again you classify stuff by how common it is. Not how rare it is.

I've come up with a pokemon game that I thought would be pretty neat, but it has a few holes.
It would start out with you battling Giovanni in the Team Rocket HQ, I figured it would be a basic 1v1, you with a Pikachu and he with a Persian. Once you beat him, he would run off to a machine behind him and activate it. This machine would be a time machine and it malfunctions, instead of sending him into the past, it sends the entire base into the past. So, you awake in the prehistoric pokemon world, full of extinct pokemon no one has ever seen. The time machine has exploded and its main pieces have been scattered across this new land. The goal would be to re-assemble the time machine before Team Rocket. So, instead of Gym leaders, there would be High ranking Team Rocket officers at every piece, 8 in total. Once you beat on, instead of a badge, you get a time machine piece. So you travel across the landscape collecting pokemon, pieces and fixing the time machine. Once you do collect all the pieces, you assemble the machine and head back to the HQ and re-assemble the machine and fight Giovanni one last time, but he now has assembled a team of prehistoric pokemon as apposed to a single persian. When he is defeated, you activate the machine, you move back to the peasant day and can trade over your new prehistoric pokemon to recent games.
Problems and Solutions I've made:
1. How would you heal pokemon, since there isn't a pokemon center or anything. I figured some kind of healing spring, or something?
2. Pokeballs and items. I figured the team rockets supply of pokeballs and items where also scattered, so you could find those as normal. And when you beat a Rocket Goon, instead of getting currency, you get pokeballs and a shot at an item.

I was going with the title Pokemon Fossil right now, what do you guys think?

Sounds like a good idea to me. When you first started talking about it it reminded me of an old hacked version I played on Vizzed.com. Its called Team Rocket Edition or something and you work for team rocket or something. I never played super far into it but it looked interesting.
