I can't agree enough with this. As a person who likes the show. A rather large part of the fandom really does obsess over it. What do you expect with such an odd interest? Of course misfits and oddballs are like magnetically attracted to it. Which is why I don't associate myself with "bronies" per se, just call myself a fan, and leave it there.

I'm a bit confused. Grown ass adults dress up as characters from all sorts of things, but it only seems that the brony fandom gets flack for it.

And before anyone says "My Little Pony is a kid's show", plenty of people dress up as characters from shows like Avatar, both The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, Adventure Time, etc. Are they frowned upon? No, they're usually viewed in a positive light.

Now, the two men in the post aren't exactly the best example of the community, but it's not like they're horrible, disgusting human beings. They're just taking part in something they enjoy. Some time ago there was a post about a guy who had a HUGE collection of something or other that I can't remember right now. That post defended him saying that he had found a hobby that he loved and he had the money to enjoy it. So, why are these two fellows who have found something they genuinely enjoy and are taking part in viewed as creepy and disturbing?

Long story short, you shouldn't judge people based on this one aspect. If they devoted their entire life to the fandom, that's another thing entirely. From what we see here, though, we can't make that judgement. Seriously, just let them enjoy their fandom.

I've seen cosplay posts make front page before, some of them including women cosplaying as Korra and men as Amon.

They are NOT frowned upon unless they're shoddily done and the person looks nothing like the character they're trying to portray.

Well the thing is, Avatar, Korra, DBZ and other cartoons are for kids, teens, young adults around the range of 10 - 20

My little donkey is for kids under 9.

That's the difference.
#389 to #385 - zerum (03/23/2013) [-]
My Little Pony, at least the current generation, is a show designed with the parents in mind, so that both kids and the parents watching the show with their children can enjoy it. Therefore, adults that just happen upon the show also enjoy it. You can't compare it to other shows for small children like Thomas the Tank Engine and stuff like that because they're on completely different levels.

The fandom for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, while completely unprecedented and odd, is completely understandable when you realize this.

how can it be normal for a grown man in his 40's to be doing that kind of stuff?? it's not likeing something because it's funny or it has actions or it's drama! it's a show meant to teach little kids about friendship... not for lonely adults, there's other stuff to help lonely adults.

Even though I am not a brony (and do find the concept a bit weird) I have to say I don't care that bronies watch the show and talk about it as long as they don't proudly carry the toys around and wear shirts about it (like picture above). honestly, its not like they're harming anyone and its probably a better hobby than something like drinking (which a lonely adult might also take up)

and yeah i know that by saying this i am saying most adults are dicks, because they ******* are.
I have friends that treat me with all the respect and that would never do me any wrong but they are dicks to others, and i cope with this and understand that society has never been correct in any way and it will never will be because people are were and will allways be selfish.

cartoons (like bugs bunny) can be funny and nostalgic to adults, but MLP is obviously not meant for adults, say for instance sponge bob if you look at it inocent it's a show for kids, if you think about all the drugs references and sociopatich behavor of the charaters it's for adults as well... (i do not enjoy it for some reason).
But MLP friendship is magic, and it's not talking about the regular friendship you have with your friends it's about this magical (sorry for the derrogatory term here but it suits in the common use of the word) gay friendship that i can say honestly barley resembles the kind of friendship i have with women BARLEY.

when lonely mid 40 adults see a new trend they take it seriously, more seriously than they should take it.

Some people keep it to the internet and some like to show off.
The people that show it off are just disturbing, especially the people shown in the picture, its like if a mid 40's adult was doing this with some type of weird anime based off of children......oh wait. RUUUUUUUUUUN!

I watched the first episode with high expectations, since the entire internet seems to like this show

User avatar #308 to #266 - condormcninja (03/23/2013) [-]
I'm not gonna be the guy who shoves it down your throat or anything, and I understand that you might just not like it and all, but even a lot of bronies agree that the first episode doesn't sell the show by any means. And it may have started as a run-of-the-mill kids' show but it really has changed at least a little to something that can be enjoyed by a broader audience.

Also, I thumbed you up since you were just stating your opinion, have a nice day.

Really one episode even though the series is so much better after like 6 or 7 episodes later. just look at the series Breaking Bad it sucked like the first four or six episodes, it felt dull and boring, and of course it gave you the plot-line of the characters and the story, but if i didn't push myself to watch more i would've stopped after the first three episode and disagree with anyone who liked the show because i didn't push myself to continue watching more. In all my opinion i didn't like first two episode of MLP, i don't understand why non-bronies watch the first episode of the show and yeah bronies say watch one episode that doesn't mean watch the first episode of the show.
Second thing is bronies like it because the show is cute and funny also it has it's adult and movie references in it and even though its a kids show, also its not as gay the other generations before friendship is magic, and an other reason bronies like it because the fandom is very creative and talented with music and art. what other fandom have you seen make so many creative art work and music . sure this fandom has it's dark side and stereotypes, but all fandoms have their dark sides and stereotypes that make them look bad and i totally agree with that you see these guys in this picture i felt like choking them because these faggots make the fandom look bad.
also have a nice day
User avatar #425 to #318 - GnRNoD (03/23/2013) [-]
they would make it look bad even if they were 25 y/o and atractive.

It's not ******* normal to "hoove five" (or whatever it's called) in public for a grown person.

I can deal with the show, i can deal with people watching the show, i just think "grown up bronies" are extremly creepy and odd.
#440 to #425 - anon (03/24/2013) [-]
Actually, if the entire fanbase was 25 years old and attractive more people would join because 'the cool kids are doing it' or whatever and if the fanbase got that big people would start to accept it more.

Also, who the **** are you to say what is normal, bronies aren't normal, I'm not normal, you're not normal, nobody is normal, what you mean is that bronies aren't up to society's standards, and honestly, who in their right minds would change themselves or act differently to meet up to those standards.

User avatar #435 to #430 - GnRNoD (03/24/2013) [-]
i mentioned that in another comment, there's not a way to measure "normal" but somethings are not ust Anormal they are disturbing, it's not like a gay couple kissing in the streets, i don't like seeing two guys kiss each other ( i don't like seeing couples kissing in general, except hot lesbians) but i don't have aproblem with that, they made a choice because they have valid reasons (for being gay). But a bronie is a choice of mere taste, and the taste for little ponies that act extremely positive about things in order to teach children to socialice(sp?) and in an exagerated way to help children learn in an easier way is not something an adult should adore so much.
User avatar #423 to #118 - GnRNoD (03/23/2013) [-]

i've seen the "first gen" as a kid (some chapters)
and i've seen a few parts of a few chaptes of this "new gen".
I know what i am talking about, it's not normal, and even if being normal is not allways the right way, in this sense it is, because it derives not only a "friendship" build up and "learning" about morales, it's very sexual because of the inocence of the charathers and that's why there's so ******* much R34 of it (im not saying EVERY brony enjoys r34 of it)
#201 to #11 - guymandude (03/23/2013) [-]
Seriously. ******* teenagers and adults shouldn't be watching a show that airs on a channel aimed at the toddler demographic (HUB). The fact that a person could watch that show (which likely plays in day-cares across the country) IN THEIR FREE TIME and think that it is completely normal adult behavior is a little off at best.

<---The great thing about getting older is that there are much better shows to watch
#321 to #201 - blargspasm (03/23/2013) [-]
I'm not a brony, or a terrific lover of bronies, but why the **** do you care about what other people watch on TV? It doesn't effect you in the slightest, unless they start rubbing their opinions in your face.

Just leave people be. Classifying people as normal, or strange and messed up is useless. Once I learned that, I appreciated the internet a lot more.

I've never seen breaking bad. Maybe my arguement is drastically wrong due to that.
#393 to #321 - guymandude (03/23/2013) [-]
<---This

Yeah, I'm realizing now that I am taking out the anger I have on my annoying step-brother who is an idiotically public pony fan on the entire concept of the show right now. Still, I find it a bit farfetched that you could go online and not consider anyone to be weird.

Also, you should be watching Breaking Bad. Best show on television. It makes all of the primetime shows on the big broadcast networks like CBS, NBC, FOX, etc. look like crap.
#412 to #393 - anon (03/23/2013) [-]
I have seen it and it honestly isn't as good as people say it is. I much prefer shows such as NCIS, Person of Interest, Walking Dead, and Criminal Minds.

User avatar #422 to #412 - GnRNoD (03/23/2013) [-]
see i don't mind people that watch the show like this, they enjoy the show as any (let's use the word) "normal" people enjoys any other show. not in a creepy way.. it's like trekkies they are not creepy until they start going to work in their trekky outfits with fake gadgets.

Because i aim for a better world, and i am judgmental about certain things.

Not the watching of the show, the making a cult about it part, you can watch watever you want, but when you make a lifestyle out of something it does have an effect on other people.

It's a decent show but you aren't missing out on something big if you haven't seen it.

I can understand being annoyed when people yell about the show in public or are weird about it, but the TELEVISION SHOW they watch in their free time is of no concern to you. It shouldn't bother you at all.

agree on the better shows part i wouldn't mind people watchng this show as a secret pleasure, but it's the whole idea of bronys that creeps me out...
the idea of friendship is so ******* creepy and it makes me feel it would reach only the loneliest of souls out there those who need help to make friends profesional help.
#328 to #11 - anon (03/23/2013) [-]
I still don't understand how this stereotype orginated. Over 70% of the brony population are under the age of 25. Do your research before you discriminate.

do you read before you type your comments, i was very specific about lonely adults, a 25y/o old younger is legaly an adult but consider a young adult. i was more specific about this post than anything else.

I have to agree with you on that

I enjoy the show from time to time, but there are people who take fandoms too seriously.
those are the people who scare the hell out of me.

I just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. It's their life, and they should be able to enjoy whatever TV show they want, regardless of the target audience. What other people watch doesn't affect me, so I don't bash them for it. Adult men love My Little Pony? Cool. If they love a TV show, then that's just one more thing in life that they can enjoy without putting harm onto others.

I dunno, that's just how I see it. Life is a precious thing, and we shouldn't waste it bitching about what shows people like to watch.

Jesus man, it's a hobby, not a lifestyle. Not every brony is some fat/scrawny greasy dweeb who's insanely socially awkward. Besides, I doubt most of you gamers (or whatever hobby you may have) are the personification of attractiveness itself.

I have nothing to contribute to either side of the argument due to the fact that internet fights are retarded.

Instead, I bring you this.
