Just gonna say this now, please don't make any jokes about servicemen please. Coming from a military family and having my cousin serve, I myself love the military and respect the soldiers.

In other words, don't be a dick.

My first impression was; "Thats a wierd Boy-scout badge..."

After rebooting my brain, i have to ask, isn't there a dress code you have to follow in the military? Isn' that why their wear uniforms? If not, what prevents me from putting on a badge proclaming my enthusiasm for my favorite band? It happens to be the German Death Metal band, Debauchery and their main slogan is "Blood For The Blood God!".

Well, save for the fact i am not allowed to join the military, but thats a different story...

He would not be able to wear that anywhere else. He had those patches made, but could only wear them in his room for pictures like this. If he wore them outside and was seen, he'd be smoked.

My .02, pretty inventive idea. I'd kick his ass if he did it in public just because it is disrespectful to the uniform, but in his room, his rules.
#84 to #16 - anon (01/16/2013) [-]
There is a regulation, but you can have those things as a joke. In this picture, the guy with the patch probably had it on him and had a picture taken for ***** and giggles. If he walked around like that, he'd get his ass reamed by just about anybody who out ranked him and noticed. And he continued to wear it after that or didn't take it off, then he would be subject to official punishment, most likely for disrespect or failure to follow a direct order.

I've always been jealous of the Army: their branch gets to wear their uniforms outside base and their chow is superb. I bet this guy could defy the idea that you can't pick up chicks while wearing MLP gear, and I would sure as hell like to be his wingman.
User avatar #36 to #34 - thatrussianhoe (01/16/2013) [-]
the army wants to show off that they served but the marines and navy are more humble and are taught to respect the uniform.
ps not hating on the army just thought id say something.
User avatar #39 to #36 - dashgamer (01/16/2013) [-]
Uhhh.... Have you even met a Marine? There's maybe one humble guy out of ten, and we wear our Blues every chance we get (and we get laid in them more than a soldier gets laid in a year wearing his cammies out in town). :P
User avatar #44 to #39 - thatrussianhoe (01/16/2013) [-]
ok ya marines can be cocky but they are taught to respect the uniform and the title that comes with it. and when i say navy i mean combatants (no disrespect to other parts of the navy) and may i ask what job you have in the navy?
User avatar #47 to #44 - dashgamer (01/16/2013) [-]
I was a generator mech in the Marine Corps.

Dress Blues. ;P There are three types of uniforms, the cammies, the Service uniform, which is the one with the big green coat, and the Dress Blues.

well thank you for informing me. i was not aware of that. so do you play video games? i ask because of your name?
User avatar #51 to #50 - dashgamer (01/16/2013) [-]
I play videogames a whole lot. I just finished Spec Ops: The Line, which was superb both it its combat realism, the way it portrayed the grotesqueness of war, and the confusing, convoluted storyline.
User avatar #52 to #51 - thatrussianhoe (01/16/2013) [-]
hmm i didnt think that game would be good. im gonna have to check it out. but what system do you play on?
User avatar #53 to #52 - dashgamer (01/16/2013) [-]
I play on my PC exclusively. I used the extra cash I got for my EAS (the end of my service) to buy a beastly computer that can handle pretty much any game.
User avatar #54 to #53 - thatrussianhoe (01/16/2013) [-]
well good on you. i my self play on a ps3 but i am saving up for a good pc. any recommendations?
User avatar #55 to #54 - dashgamer (01/16/2013) [-]
That would depend on your budget, but I can at least tell you that you should get an intel cpu instead of AMD.
User avatar #56 to #55 - thatrussianhoe (01/16/2013) [-]
ya im looking to spend about 700 to 1200 on mine. not something to powerful but enough to get the job done
User avatar #57 to #56 - dashgamer (01/16/2013) [-]
Hmm... Well, I'm not really much of a computer-whiz, but I'll just say you probably want 8 gigs of RAM, an intel processor, and a nvidia graphics card. Of course, you can probably get some decent prefabricated desktops for that price, or you could search for sales at computer stores, buy the components over time, and have a slightly better computer. Just make sure that your parts will all be compatible. The actual assembly isn't very difficult: it's like snapping legos into place following a diagram.
To build your own computer, you'll have to do a bit of research before you make any final decisions. I got all my parts from Microcenter, and they have some pretty good bargains at times.

I'm already in the process of enlisting in the U.S. Army, going in for infantry support gunner. My recruiter is actually has a son who is a brony and is enlisting the same time I am, but his son told me putting a patch like that on your ACU can actually be considered treason. Not sure if he's full of **** or not so my question to all the enlisted personnel out there, would I get my **** ****** if I put this on my ACU? Pic related, what I'm going to make into a patch and put on when I'm not on active duty.
User avatar #78 to #27 - deathsting (01/16/2013) [-]
You'd get your ass chewed if you wore it around an NCO or something. If you're just wearing it outside in public you most likely wont. Just don't go around flashing it in case an NCO off duty sees it. I wouldn't recommend it though, I don't even wear my ACU's in public.
User avatar #81 to #78 - sierramike (01/16/2013) [-]
Oh **** you're right. Thanks for the advice man! I'm assuming you're enlisted so if I may ask what branch?

No, It has nothing to do with the fact that he watches MLP. It's that he's parading it around on a uniform, In another country. This gives off a bad image to anyone that may encounter this person.

while normally i would agree those look like an older pair of BDU's, which (according to my dad [served in germany as a mechanic '91-'96 i think]) are no longer in use.
while it is still disrespectful, i don't think it is worthy of an ass beating.

and i'm not saying that because its pony related, it could be justin beiber's portrait and i'd feel the same way, also the flag is backwards
User avatar #14 to #10 - TheBear (01/16/2013) [-]
Also, The flag is intentionally worn backwards. When worn like this, The flag is facing to the observer’s right, And gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward.
User avatar #13 to #10 - TheBear (01/16/2013) [-]
BDU's are still used during BCT and training/Live fire training missions over seas. I'm not saying he needs his ass beat because of this, He just simply needs to remove them or only wear them in privacy.

Each to his own mate, I know a serviceman who likes the show and he seems okay to me,
In fact there is a reasonably large forum dedicated to servicemen who are Bronies.
I know it isn't really a civilians place to judge the opinions of people in the military, but you have to admit at the end of the day as long as it doesn't affect how someone performs as a cog in a military unit it's pretty irrelevant. And to be fair, after slogging through the various third world cesspits you guys have to deal with each day, there are worse outlets then an unconventional morale that an illiterate Afghan Sheppard wouldn't even understand the meaning of. Mind you this is just my personal opinion, it's admirable though that you place such importance on the image you and your fellow servicemen and women give.
