from one Captain to another, you're welcome. Just don't see what all the fuss was about. It's not our story, not our show, we just watch it. The creators are entitled to take it in any direction they wish.

It was short, yes, and maybe a bit rushed(it would've benefited from an hour slot, maybe), but from what I saw, it was good.

...I for one like the singing.

Some of those songs gave me a feel...not that I almost cried or anything like that.

"There were too many songs"
Literally half of them were 20 seconds long.
"It was too rushed"
Excuse me? There was a montage, that's sort of there so we don't get 20 minutes of problem solving
"They could have made it two parts"
Okay, so imagine they DID spend 20 minutes getting their cutie marks back... Now they have 10 minutes of princess stuff to do, and now they have to stretch it into 20, which you would've complained about
"Twilight being a princess happened out of nowhere"
There was 64 episodes and a final test before this, it by no means happened "out of nowhere"

Pretty much every "argument" I've heard as to why this episode was bad has been "I don't like change", just worded differently.

My problem is this: before she fixed the spell, they already had their cutie marks back. The spell didn't exactly do anything, so I don't see why it was the deciding factor in her princess-hood.

Because StarSwirl didn't even do it, and he's supposedly the most powerful unicorn in equestrian history, so the fact that Twilight could do it showed Celestia she was ready

That's a good point, but outdoing him just means she can claim his title as the most powerful unicorn. Being in that position didn't earn him wings (as far as we know), so it seems weird that it would for her.

It's not the length of the songs people are bitching about, it's how they uneccesarily consumed a good portion of the episode instead of actually making us care about the problem at hand.

And again, I revert you back to my last sentence. Twilight had basically ruined her friends lives. Giving the episode more time for Twilight to struggle with trying fix this could have actually made us care about her dilemma. Instead, it's shrugged off as if the episode didn't even need it in the first place, and handled incredibly poorly.

Also, the episode barely had any humorous moments in it. Yes, it's tne creators jobs to make the story, but that doesn't mean that they're automatically excused of criticism.

Okay, I might get thumbed down for this, but am I the only one who felt that this finale was......I dunno.........lacking? Like, the majority of it was taken up by songs, hardly any funny moments, the problem seemed to be solved way too quickly, and I'm not too crazy about the ending.

It was. I bet the finally was originally going to be two, maybe three episodes long, but then Hasbro decided to cut the episode count in half for season 3 and they decided other episodes were better than having a full length finally (which I'd say was the correct choice, the story could only be so good when you are literally cleaning up your own mistake and then become royalty because of it).

I am really not sure what to make of this.

After watching it several times.. I think I like it.
The animation was great, the music awesome (as usual) and there were several more traits I loved about the episode.
I think that people just have to get used to twilicorn.
I was writing a reply to seniorawesomesauce's arguments, when I realised that he was more right than wrong.
I don't think they could have done it in a better way, but I'm still not sure how the world will react.. (both the brony community and the world surrounding Twilight)

According to the writers, its rather more like the 1st part of a 3 part sequence, which we of course won't see till the next season.
It really felt more like a rushed transition to me. The true plot of the show (the mixed up cutie marks thing) seemed to have been resolved really quickly, and the emphasis of it seemed to have been placed of course of Twilight's ascension as an Alicorn and a Princess.
It was a decent episode with catchy songs and nice little features like Vinyl in a scene of the show, but until we see the writer's true intentions for this major change, I'm not going to be too positive on this episode, it felt very rushed to me.

It felt a bit rushed indeed, but I don't think they could have made a hole two-parter out of it.. It would have been filled with non-relevant scenes and unnecessary dialogue. They did show the effects of the switches and the whole solution was a montage, which are there for speeding things up, so they can get the actual message.
The emphasis was on twilicorn because it have had such a long build up. It's been 3 seasons and 65 episodes - and look at the end of episode 2 in season 3.. Luna is holding the book of whatever it's called - They just needed a way to link all of her friendship experiences together with her knowledge of magic so they could make her an alicorn.. though I think they could have done it in a better way.
There are only two things that worries me: How this changes how the ponies look on twilight, and that Hasbro is getting a little too involved in the story.
I'm not an animator nor writer, so I'm not going to come up with ********* of ways I think they could have done it better.
But I think you are right. I'm waiting with my ultimate conclusion until the next season.
Where'd you get the information about the 3 part sequence? I would love to read more on that.

Btw, pick is adorable, so you get one equally as adorable.

That little piece of info about the writer's planning to continue upon this episode was posted on EQD, you can find it here: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2013/02/season-finale-has-bit-of-continuity.html

And that's that. All the hype, drama, and tears of pony-loving men from all over the world, concluded.

I haven't seen an episode since S3 premiere and the trixie one, but I thought this would be worth a look.

IMO, not what I expected, in the slightest. That being said, idk what I was expecting.

Far too many songs. I can't stand mlp songs, that's just me.

The episode concept was good, but the source of the problem was introduced awkwardly, why was it a flashback? Shoulda been the intro, IMO. I'm not sure if it was a good storyline for the finale(the CM switiching, not the alicorning), it could been ep 13 and then a finale after it. I did like how they mentioned alot of the previous episodes when thinking of solutions.

I loved that DJ-pon3 was in that one scene, they should do more of that, just popping in fan favorites every so often in the open for us to squee at. MIA discord was no big surprise, lets be real. Good to see Derpy back, not that she ever left.

The alicorn-ization process was weird as ****. Where the **** were they? The matrix? IDK, I understand its a hard thing to just do, but like, the middle of space with flying tv screens? eh.

The coronation part was what it was, not much to say. Woulda been nice to explain what she's the princess of exactly, but that flies true for cadence also I guess. I don't think this will kill the show, not by any means, as it was fairly justified, but I feel like S4 is gonna be complicated to make.

I'm personally going to chock it up to hasbro imposing their will onto the show more than usual this time around.

They shoe-horned the idea for twilight to become a "princess," and probably had the season shortened so that they could get their merchandise out faster. You can probably imagine how much pressure that must have put onto the creative team.

They sound like they have S4 planned out in response, megan mcarthy herself said that the finale is actually a 3 parter, just we wont be seeing the next 2 parts till the next season airs.

Also, although I do enjoy the songs of MLP (Including the ones in the finale), I do agree that these ones had some fairly uninspired lyrics.

I have several problems with this finale:
1. EVERYTHING, went wayyyy to fast. The presentation, the solution, the effects.. everything came so suddenly. Make an awesome to-parter instead of this unfinished episode..
2. I don't think the ending is fitting. It's very.. closing.. I've heard that they would make a season 4, but it would be weird continuing after this... (I don't know, let's see what happens) I somehow can't imagine seeing Twi as an Alicorn ever becoming normal.
3. As Saiyajinwarrior says: There was a lack of MLP moments in this... Few jokes, Few characteristics and the majority of the episode was song..

On the bright side: Celestia singing! :D
