alright ************* , i have seen so much Warhammer 40k stuff and it looks massively ******* awesome. I have never done a miniatures game or anything like it. What can I expect to put into it (cost, time, all that **** ), difficulty, and is it fun?

Try playing a Dawn of War game (preferrably the first, vanilla) to understand the story. Then you should proceed to the tabletop game.

Warmachine is better.

Its steampunk which is superior to future crap.

Also has less fanboys, models look better, is cheaper and takes less time to learn.

i do love me some steampunk that's for sure. Everything is the same as WH40K?

Not at all sadly.

Although its fun, fast and takes less time to play a game. It requires less models which when combined with cheaper models (excluding a few) makes it a significantly smaller investment in both time and money.
It is a solidly different style of play focusing around melee with guns being more supporting. But it has steam powered robots, wagons with guns strapped to the sides and magical dudes who control said robots.

i might try Warmachine to see if i like the gameplay so i don't spend a whole lot on something i don't plan to further pursue and whatnot then go on to Warhammer.

Warmachine has small box sets (come in around $65NZD) which contain a small force and some starter rules.

They are the best place to start if you are just putting your toe in the water so to speak

Lots and lots of your hard earned imperial credits of the realm.
But no, the prices are quite high at the moment. If you're wanting and easy start at a low price Grey Knights are defiantly the way to go ahead. With 2 or 3 boxes and the codex you're pretty much at a 1000 points.
As a game it's easier to play than warhammer fantasy but some of the rules can be tricky.
AND **** YES IT IS FUN. If you have any other questions hit me a Dm

You probably meant to use "definitely".

Hundreds of both dollars and possibly hours. yes it is fun but it is a relatively decent commitment. If you want more info ask. also start small, not big.
