1. What made you first watch MLP?
Well, a few years ago, my friend decided to show me hotdiggetydemon's Pony.mov series (at that time, it only had Shed.mov and Apple.mov). I thought nothing of it and went on with my life, until I found a picture of Scootaloo. That, along with multiple rewatches of Pony.mov got me into the show (somehow).

2. Why do you like the show?
I like it because it's entertaining, and it tries its hardest to break boundaries (*cough* *cough* Derpy *cough*). It also has some value to it, whereas many shows like it are just mindless fluff.

3. What kind of jargon/ lingo does the community use?
There is brony, brohoof, pegasister, clop/clopping/clopfic (replace "clop" with "fap" and you know the rest. I personally don't like clop stuff).

4. Is there any kind of hierarchy in the community?
None whatsoever.

5. How does one become apart of the community?
Ya just do. If you like the show and you consider yourself a brony, then you are. it's not exclusive.

Also, for #3, there is also "buck" and "everypony." Just replace the "b" in "buck" with "f" and you will get that one. For "everypony" (can also be somepony/anypony/no pony/ect.), the writers replaced "-body" in "everybody," and the term just kinda stuck.

Sorry about adding this so late, I planned on adding this soomer, but my internet cut out.

1. I got bored one day, so I watched it (I know, stupid, right?).
2. The question is: Why DON'T I like the show?

3. The one I use the most is BUCK, which is mainly is just plain out **** .

4. I don't believe there is.

5. Watch the show, love it, and then do whatever the BUCK you want.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go watch the Season 3 Finale for the trillionth time.

Since you asked nicely...

1. My own curiosity, more than anything. When I first heard about the show being good it had only just released its seventh episode. I saw a couple posts about it on some forum or another and decided to give it a look, at which point I discovered that I loved it by the second episode and watched up to the seventh that night. Since then I've been a brony eagerly awaiting the release of each new episode.

2. A lot of people try to just say it's the talent behind the show itself, though I do accept the show for what it is. Honestly I find the innocence of most of it quite charming, even if I myself take glee in twisting it to mean something entirely different (i.e., my Overthinking is Magic post/contributions to such things) and of course the normal reasons too; The animations are good, it's an aesthetically pleasing show (except for that one time they tried CGI, uhg,) the writing, the jokes that can appeal to pretty much anyone watching, and the odd lack of cliche in most cases.
It feels different in a sea of television series that copy themselves and each other.

3. There's some of that, though not a whole lot.
Clopping: when someone *********** to a pony-related image.
Pegasister: common alternative of "brony" for female fans of the show, though most of them like brony just fine.
Wingboner: When a pegasus from the show has their wings extended while they're not actually in use, some have taken this to mean they're "excited."
Brohoof: Same as a brofist, except between bronies.
Plot: Pony ass, though this isn't a term unique to bronies.
There's more, but those are those are the most commonly used I think.

4. No, maybe some among the creators in the fandom (artists, programmers, animators, writers, etc) though I couldn't tell you how all that works, if there's any there at all.

5. Anyone who watches the show is considered a brony, though to be "part" of the fandom would mean you post on websites or create things related to ponies.
#73 to #72 - zekeon (03/06/2013) [-]
Oh and I'd love to do the personal interview if you want, anything to help with your paper. I've been around in the fandom pretty much since it started (if that's what you're looking for,) any sooner and you'd get people who were the originals from /co/

I'll send you a PM too.

well
1. a friend posted the nightmare night episode on his Facebook and i thought WHY NOT!
2. it was well written, the color and movement peaked my interest and it made me laugh :) (plus i used to love some of the original mlp toys back when i was a little filly)
3. uhhhh instead of saying BODY like in everybody, they say pony (everypony) OH AND BROOHOOF!
4.no?
5. just watch. if you like it, welcome to the herd. if you dont, watch another episode

#69 - clopfic (03/05/2013) [-]
1. Friend at school was talking about it, thought I'd check it out.
2. I like the animation the most but I also like the characters and most of the episodes story wise.
3.Clop, Wingboner, 20% cooler, plot, brohoof
4. Not really, mostly the people on YouTube and creators
5. Watch the show and support bronies and such.

1) I stumbled upon the fanbase after the first season was over during summer break and decided too give it a shot and find out why it got so much attention.
2) Its like revisiting the innocence I once had as a kid now me being older. While other issues of stress appear to completely dissappear when Im watching the show and therefore its like a timeout every weekend from the hassles of everyday life.
3) I guess just bronies, pegasister, everypony, somepony. Ponifying stuff we also like.
4) There isnt any official heriarchy, but there are people like the voice actors (tara strong) and lauren faust (the creator) that hold a lot of meaning for making the the show happen and it being so special.
5) watch the shows because you enjoy them. thats it. anything else is voluntary.
User avatar #67 - acar ONLINE (03/05/2013) [-]
1. A link on FJ to the first episode. I liked it and became a fan.

2. It makes me feel good. It is all about adventure, discovery, and of course friendship and i find friendship is the most important thing in the world.

3. brony, Pegasister, Clopping, Wingboner, Wingpower, Cutie Mark, Bucking

4. Not that i can think of. It's a just a group of people that watch a TV show. There's no committee or governing group.

5. By watching and enjoying the show, that's it. People do this on different levels. The ones who just watch and are like "can't wait for the next episode." then the "writes fanfics and draws art" and the eccentric "has a bunch of figures, apparel, and memorabilia."
#65 - onlyanonymous (03/05/2013) [-]

1. What made you first watch MLP?
the fact that i try not to be ignorant and hate a show that i knew nothing about but as i watched the show more and more , forcing myself rather than being forced by others i grew to like the show
<mfw
2. Why do you like the show?
i like the animation
3. What kind of jargon/ lingo does the community use?
clop=porn
plot=pony ass

brony= bro+ pony (unisex)
pegasister= pegasus+sister (female specific)
flutterstrated = frustrated
20%cooler= can be improved

1. i watched some parodies/songs from bronies before I knew about MLP. Later I found about it and one day I decided when I had nothing better to do to watch a few episodes.
2. I really have no idea to be honest. I mean, it's a good show don't get me wrong, but I'm usually into completely different stuff than cartoons. I did watch the earlier generations so I guess it did bring back some childhood memories.
3. Mostly brohoofs and some use somepony instead of someone or anypony instead of anybody which is really useless imo.
4. I hope not. But you never know.
5.Well, you got to follow the show, and know the basics about it. You also gotta act like a brony. That means to give everyone a chance and never start a fight. Which sadly most bronies don't do. ********** and trolling is ok.
User avatar #58 - therealpokemon (03/04/2013) [-]
1.) I was just like "Eh what the Hell?" And then I was in love with it.
2.) Not quite sure. I know that the MLP world was just awesome.
3.) R34, clop, "you're going to love me", buck ( **** with a B).
4.) Kinda: Bronies are on the Bottom, voice actors are middle tier, and Lauren Faust is the top tier with Tara Strong, IMO.
5.) Watching the show and knowing where others of the community can be found. That is it.
User avatar #57 - paranoidwzy (03/04/2013) [-]
1. Was wondering to my self what is this whole thing about this MLP thinking about and decided to come to a conclusion why it was as a phenomena as it has turned out.

2. The show is insulting to anyone who has a working brain. But i usually like to watch it with friends and we joke about how bad it is while watching it.

3. I don't use them

4. No

5. They will find you...

User avatar #60 to #57 - paranoidwzy (03/04/2013) [-]
What I concluded on the first one. I believe that first that it is just people who like interacting and sharing a common interest. It's like sport or videogames, that is just a subject that you can just be with to not feel that lonely.
Why it got the attention it did I believe is first and foremost that if you look at the brony age group that they can remember the older series that they might have hated when they were children.
I certainly remember it and I hated it. I guess it started to be popularizing when it was used to troll people and it got this kind of irony around it and made it funny. Then it became a fandom.

1. I really, really hated MLP "generation one" since the kids were small (and I had to watch!) , and when I heard the buzz about MLP on the internet i wondered what the hell was going on. This was in february 2011, because I started watching it right before "Sonic rainboom" aired. This was just curiosity, you understand... But it got me line, hook and sinker. My wife and youngest daughter (13) loves it too and we watch it together.

2. Not because of the cutsey stuff. No, I love the well-written dialogue, the humor is layered like Shrek with lots and lots of adult jokes, even about sex and alcohol. But most of all it has more pop culture references than PVP online and Questionable Content rolled together. Even lots of horror and war movies get their due! Read mlp.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_allusions and be amazed, and they have even missed a lot. Also the music is great.

3. "X is best pony" used to be a common banter, usually involving a character who is not, in fact, a pony. For example Tom (a rock) or Steven Magnet (a sea serpent. That name is a... Long story) Pony is also commonly spelled Poni or Pone. Also faget or fagit is a term of endearment because we so often get to hear that we are in actually homosexuals of the highest order.

4. No... but by now there are several communities. On /b/ there used to be a few prominent bronies like Cupcake, Quill and Hupony, don't know about the others really. but if Lauren Faust (creator of the current incarnation of MLP) or Tara Strong (Voice actress for the main character) tell us to jump, we jump.
Also, everybody knows Lunargreenhouse has us whipped.

5. Visit 4chans /mlp/ board, equestria daily, ponychan, my little brony or the FJ pony board. Post, be friendly and discuss the show. Visit bronycon if you are lucky enough to live on the right continent.

1. Heard the song winter wrap up on a stream, wanted to hear it more clearly, looked it up on youtube, saw the song, wanted to see the whole episode, then I woke up with half of season 1 in my brain.

2. 'S a good show.

3. lots of things, it used to be pretty common to say "everypony" or "somepony" instead of "everyone/everybody" or "someone/somebody". Even outside of the internet it's pretty common to see bronies greeting eachother with a Brohoof (brofist/fist bump while saying 'brohoof')

4. Not really, though some bronies are more popular than others

5. Watch/enjoy the show, discuss it, create/enjoy fanworks, do whatever pony related activities you want.

1. seen a lot of posts on funnyjunk decided I'd give it a hoot and holler
2. I think it's funny, and has brought a new found interest in animating
3.CLOPPING! (lol) buck... pony feathers, sweet Celestia this list goes on
4. not that I am aware of
5.i think if you watch the show and enjoy it that would mean your a brony, but there are a lot of varying levels of devotion throughout the fandom

1) Curiosity and a friend
2) The show is very funny, the story is well written and the music is well composed
3) There are a lot of quotes from the show
4) There is no hierarchy, I think
5) watch the show and talk about it with friends

If you have any questions you can ask freely,
so good luck on your work ^^

1. i started watching out of curiosity, but what hooked me was the music

2. it's very well written, directed, animated, and the music is spectacular

3. a lot of gay jokes... i'm not kidding, because every hater calls us " ******* ", we just took that in stride and started it as a bit of an inside joke

4. no hierarchy, we just see another brony, he's just another brony, however, there are those that are more famous, such as the artists and whatnot

5. it's as simple as watch a few episodes, join a few conversations on different mlp chat sites, like the pony thread here on fj, and really just stick to the three words of a brony: love, tolerance, and brotherhood

I'd be glad to help!
1. To be honest.. I don't remember. I started watching it in season 1, which is a few years back, and I honestly don't recall why I started.. probably cause I had seen a couple of MLP related cartoons and became curious.
2. I've tried answering that several times, and I am never able to fully answer the question.. so I've found a solution: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbBCrMMJ5a8. This gives you ALL the information about the show. It's a bit long, but full of information.
3. There are, literately, a **** ton of lingo a brony can use. The majority of which, are sayings or quotes from the show (E.G. "20 % Cooler" -Rainbow Dash; "Liquid pride" - a reference to crying. And generally normal words that has been ponyfied such as: Everypony (everyone), Buck ( **** ), Brohoof (like a highfive for bronies) et cetera.
4. There are not. Everyone is equal (love and tolerate (lol)) and there are no one above them all; though some would say, that the writers, artists are a bit more... well, involved..no ..... **** , I can't find the right word. They're more known and thus, a lot of people look up to them.
5. Watch the show and enjoy it; it's that simple.
Hope this helps!

Actually funnyjunk made me first do it. I kept seeing comments with AJ & RD Bro hoofing and I checked it out.

Oddly enough when I heard about Doctor Whooves, I checked out Doctor Who and I love it.

FJ made me a brony
MLP made me a Whovian

You should ask omegle bronies. Type into the common interests bar "MLP, My Little Pony" and other synonyms, 1v1 questioning would work better Imo.
