I'm pretty sure that she isn't immortal.

Alicorns may or may not be immortal but the have an astronomically high lifespan as seen with Celestia. And as seen with Granny Smith we know that at least Earth ponies don't live nearly as long.

We know that some alicorns are mortal. For instance, Cadence can be seen to age from flashbacks, and we don't know anything much about what powers of lack thereof Twilight have gained.

As for Granny Smith, she shows that ponies live for a very long time, she lived before the founding of Ponyville, and I'm not sure, but I believe it was said in one of the episodes that Ponyville had been around for over a hundred years.

ok i did a little reading too much into this and found you're right. In Winter Wrap Up Twilight mentions they've been cleaning up winter in Ponyville for HUNDREDS of years. Granny Smith being there since the beginning I've concluded that time has no meaning in Equestria.

maybe alicorns just have a very long period of maturity? after reaching adulthood, they'll live for millenia.
in winter wrap up, they said that ponyville had been cleaning up without magic for centuries. plural. granny founded the town, she must be several hundred.

Yeah! That's it. Anyway, it may be that Alicorns have avery long maturity. But I like to think there are different kinds of alicorns. The "oh holy crap they can lift celestial bodies without blinking" kind, and the "hey, I'm a unicorn with wings and a slightly long horn" kind. So far I put Twi and Cadence under the second one.

that, or cadence and twilight are still maturing. Maybe it's similar to royal jelly in bees? once you get your wings, you are assured to eventually have the full power of an alicorn. It would also explain why alicorns are bigger than other ponies, they're the only ones who are capable of maturing fully.

Perhaps. We'll have to see, won't we?
