They're not paid to stand or respect the anthem. They did what they are paid for which is play football. While I don't agree with their decision, the reaction from some of the fans is strange to me. Like these guys are the extreme left you should be fighting. Look at it from their angle, most of them come from poor neighborhoods surrounded by people telling them to protest. If they don't, their people think they sold out.

Actually they dont just get paid to play foot ball, they have massive contracts stating what they can and cant do, like being a role model for example, it is why when footballers get drunk and cause havoc on a day off they are forced to apologise and get susspended, tuey dont get paid millions to just throw a ball.

Yeah, but isn't it being a role model if you are trying to point to a social/political problem by peacefully protesting. It's a pretty American thing to do. It's not like they all came drunk to games etc. While I don't understand their problem as a white non-American it seems like a good way to do what they consider right. Isn't unpatriotic at all.

I dont go to my job place and protest in the office even though my "shift" hasnt started. They can easily protest in the streets. And that they deliberately do it in the stadium is their fault.

Standing during an anthem isn't in their job description, so they represented their teams the way they agreed to. Besides, you can't compare the jobs of public personalities with the rest of us. Nobody got hurt by it, except some ''patriots'' who can't believe somebody would ''disrespect'' America like that. And it got the discussion they wanted to bring to the public, as evidenced by us talking about it. I wouldn't do what they did, but I think it's their choice, just as it is the sponsor's choice to drop some of them.

So this is my take on it. As a professional, I have to maintain a strict code of conduct. If I ever file for personal bankruptcy, I could find myself in front of professional association and lose my designation, which could lead to me losing my job or find a job requiring that designation. IT is part of being an accountant.

I see this similarly applying to professional football players for two reasons. As much as every single sports fan hates to admit it, players aren't signed to win championships, they are signed to push the brand and make money. The Toronto Maple Leafs are the most profitable team in Canada yet they are lucky to make the play-offs. If a player does something to hurt the brand or the image of a team, damn right that player will hear from Management.

Also professional players getting sponsorships from corporations. People may forget that the concept of sponsorship is the other side of endorsements. We pay you X to say our product or brand Y is awesome to people. The power of said endorsement is only as powerful as the person and their influence to the audience has. In the terms and conditions of these contracts, there are explicit clauses regarding harming the corporate image by being affiliated with BS or scandal, or should the power of your endorsement lose it's existing influence over the target demographic. This is not about race, Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods had to deal with the same issues for their scandals.

This isn't a new practice, or a racist practice. This is the world of capitalism.

In the case of a sponsor, they are getting paid to represent them/be the face of their company/sell more products. It is to be fully expected that several companies do not like having the face(s) of their company to not respect the flag, as that is a big PR problem coming from somebody who is being paid to be a PR boon. If somebody is being paid to HELP PR and they are HURTING PR, it only makes sense to fire them/pull the plug.

Sponsors' money =/= salary from the NFL.

That's true and I completely agree that the sponsors have every right to distance themselves from any political statement. That being said, getting endorsements doesn't mean that you have to act every moment as PR guy for a company. If any of the players said that the sponsors agree with them that would be the players not doing their job of promoting the company, but that wasn't the case. They played football, did everything by the rules and that's the bottom line.

Not really. Sponsors would rather have someone at least be smart enough not follow the whims of others. All this happen because of trump and what he said. They did it because of that. No some cause. Not some fallen military troops, or disaster, or whatever.

They did it to snub Trump. That's it. That's their entire reason.

Doesn't sound like a smart thing to do. And now we see the colors a majority of the NFL teams have. That they only care about their appearance and the money that comes with it...

Well, they going to learn that comes with a price.

They have the right to protest. But they have to understand the implications of how they are protesting. They do not understand what the symbols they reject stand for.
Therefore, other people have the right to call them out for being fools.

That's not the time and place to be protesting. The national anthem is talking about veterans and people who died for that flag in War to establish this country and to keep it safe all this time. So if you're not happy with the current state of the government that isn't the time to disrespect the veterans which that song holds purpose to it's supposed to be a time that we can bond is a country and come together difference is set aside to stand together in unity. But you're going to have your people who want to be trendy to come **** it up.
