For everyone who doesn't think gun control will help curb gun violence, read a history text book. Prohibition did reduce drinking in this country. If something is illegal, it is harder to obtain. It wont stop it completely, but if we can do something to save the life of one innocent child, isn't it worth a shot?

Prohibition might have reduced drinking, but it created a violent black market full of gangsters.
That's what any prohibition does. Just replaces it with gang violence.

You're right anon, I think we really should all come together and ban abortion, just one child's life is worth it.

Pro- or anti- gun control, we can all agree that this guy is an idiot.

I'm sorry, how many Harvard law degrees have you earned? Or at least how many years have you spent as a professor of constitutional law at U Chicago? Just because you don't understand doesn't mean the other person is an idiot. Actually, last I checked it was a personal problem.

So let's take into account of all the lives that will be lost because the people can't defend themselves. How many is that? It's at least one of course so that should make it worth it to keep guns to protect innocent lives.

Making something illegal is just taking it away from honest, law abiding citizens. Criminals will always find a way to get a gun if they want to. Taking guns away from us or limiting their use will only cause us to be nearly or entirely defenseless when attacked by a gunman. I think the best way to save lives would be to allow citizens to be able to have guns so as they can protect their children. Also, if criminals know that citizens are unarmed, they'll only be more likely to target them.

During prohibition rates of alcohol poisoning also went up by 400% due to people drinking as much as they could in one go.
#54 to #52 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
Or because moonshine has really high alcohol content?
User avatar #57 to #54 - smilingpyro (04/17/2013) [-]
It may also be due to the fact that the U.S Gov poisoned any factory made alcohol to deter drinkers, killing an estimated 10,000 people (source) www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2010/02/the_chemists_war.html

>The life of one child
>Liberty and a founding principle of this country taken away from millions.

'Git out you commie.

If your right to own a gun infringes on another's right to live, shouldn't one take precedence over the over?
#82 to #47 - internetzsoviet (04/17/2013) [-]
My right to own a gun doesn't infringe on your right to live, jackass.

And what did criminals do? Illegally obtain alcohol anyways.
#48 to #45 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
first of all, alcohol is a lot easier to make than a military-grade assault weapon. Second, there is no arguing that prohibiton decreased drinking as a whole
User avatar #60 to #48 - smilingpyro (04/17/2013) [-]
yes it decreased drinking as a whole, but alcoholism went up by a whopping 300%
User avatar #50 to #48 - noopinion (04/17/2013) [-]
An assault weapon (fully automatic) is already illegal to purchase in the U.S., a semi-automatic weapon is not an assault weapon.
User avatar #83 to #50 - internetzsoviet (04/17/2013) [-]
Oh god look at this illiterate.

"Assault weapon" is not a word. It is made up and doesn't mean anything. Nothing constitutes an "assault weapon" except what ******* commies will tell you.
#51 to #50 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
Well perhaps it should be.
User avatar #62 to #51 - smilingpyro (04/17/2013) [-]
Not to mention the fact that prohibition gave birth* to the American mafia, it was just what they needed to make an empire, an easy to break law that 80% of the population didn't like.

* greatly attributed to the mafia's rise to power
#58 to #51 - puttbenis (04/17/2013) [-]
"Perhaps it should be."

Oh man this ****** just went full retard.
Gun Control does not work, any form of government control does not work. If you want an illegal market for something, the easiest way to get that started is with government control. If you think even for a second a explosive new market for Mexico won't open up, resulting in thousands of more deaths annually then there are currently in the country cause by deaths, YOU ARE WRONG.

Control doesn't work, you know what does work?

#75 to #58 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
What are you babbling about? It works excellently in every other developed nation in the world. Look at the facts, lower gun ownership is directly correlated with lower fatalities. The data clearly indicates that it does in fact work. Pretending it doesn't doesnt make that true.
User avatar #53 to #51 - noopinion (04/17/2013) [-]
"Gee golly, this illegally obtained weapon will be so much easier to use since cops take forever and nobody else has guns!"

Sorry anon, your opinion doesn't matter.
