There one major flaw and a minor one here I'd like to adress

1. The Romans only occupied England and Wales
2. The Romans barely had any influence on the Native British (Celts) after they left.
3. English people as we know them are Anglo-Saxons (Germanics)
4. Scottish and Irish people are still pure Celts (as pure as it can get nowadays) , which means Germanic-tribes Ball isn't the only ancestor of Britain.
5. The Normans (Who were rogue French with English leadership) Immigrated with almost their entire people to England , which Technically made the Anglo-Saxons living there into Franco-Anglo-Saxons due to the strong population mixing.
6. The English language changed entirely with the Norman conquest since the strongly German sounding English mixed with the Franco-Latin mixture the Normans spoke.

TL;DL The Romans didn't do a **** , Britain has more than 1 Ancestor ball and France is Britains real dad.
#46 to #1 - gerfox (03/10/2014) [-]
Well, the Romans might not have done a lot in the UK directly, but they influenced the rest of Europe - and therefore also the UK indirectly. You could say that modern western society is in reality fathered by the Roman empire.
User avatar #62 to #1 - supercatters ONLINE (03/10/2014) [-]
In the UK the Romans did have a large influence, setting up the sites of some of the biggest cities, like London would never had existed had it not been for the Romans. To be fair the medieval people who come after thought everything that was already there was built by Giants however you cant just say the Romans didn't do **** . The Danes being missed out of the equation is the most major flaw in my mind

I don't think we really have a best friend, kompis. Also I think Denmark would be our natural enemy, we've been at war with them more times than any two countries in the entire world.
User avatar #41 to #14 - redlarva **User deleted account** (03/10/2014) [-]
I think our situation is a bit more complex. Norway has been our best budd, a brother, an enemy and a friendly rival. Same goes with Denmark and Finland. Russia is our true enemy and before that, the muscowites or whatever they where called and for father you could say old saxons or ancient germanic tribes. Maybe even Geutes.

I'm not sure about any of this, this is just how I see it

#18 to #14 - sienimies (03/09/2014) [-]
Fun fact: When it comes to competitions, Finland's only objective is to beat Sweden. Everything else is just a bonus. I'm not even kidding

There's also some Russia-hate but that's getting kinda old now.

User avatar #16 to #14 - alleksi ONLINE (03/09/2014) [-]
It's funny, because if I were to make a Finnish version of this, Sweden would probably either be natural enemy or friendly rival.

I mean, I didn't want to make assumption, but if you think we're best friends....

America and England are pretty damn close allies. There were more than a few scuffles and we make fun of each other's citizens all the goddamn time, but I like to think that if it came down to it, we'd take the world.

Then again I might just be an overoptimistic twat.

User avatar #54 to #29 - nuclearcomedy (03/10/2014) [-]
Too much rivalry is brought forth since after World War Two, the Germans hate patriotism, they think you should be ashamed for any atrocities your country has committed, on the flipside, the British are very patriotic.

It creates this conflict of interest, so no, I wouldn't say Germany.
#58 to #54 - anon (03/10/2014) [-]
The British are patriotic? There hasn't been national pride for years. No denying there are people that are patriotic but I'd hardly call it a British characteristic
User avatar #59 to #58 - nuclearcomedy (03/10/2014) [-]
When times are tough people look to the Queen as I recall, but then again the last time I was in England was eight years ago, so I'm bound to be wrong.
Still don't believe all too well that Germans and the English could have anything more than a strained friendship, even if the English looked at Germany and thought about being allies with Germany in WW I
