That was hillarious.

Jokes aside, why do people say America came in at the end when the Soviets only entered a few months before America?

Because America didn't start participating in major ground combat as soon as they declared war.

you could say the Russians didn't either lol. They 'participated' with retreat. American boots were on occupied soil around the same time the Russian defense hardened.

I agree with you, but what I'm saying is that people seem to think that America didn't do **** until D-Day.

Aren't the U.K. and Britain two different things? U.K. is the country, and Britain is a Kingdom.

....Uh sort of the other way round.

United Kingdom is the kingdom ( England, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man, Isle of White, Northern Ireland)

Britain is the mainland countires (England, Wales, Scotland)

Great Britain is the extended mainland ( England, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man, Isle of White)

So you'd usually see it written as U.K or Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Actually Great Britain is the main island, with Britain being the whole of the British Isles except the Irish Island.

Britain is the island
Great Britain is the mainland and accessory islands, excluding Northern Ireland.

Great Britain is the island. It only includes the smaller islands in a political context, in every other Great Britain is the main island in the British Isles.

The term Britain stopped being used in the new millennium. It now refers the the mainland without the accessory islands.

Great Britain is the geographical term. Not a political one. It refers to the mainland with the accessory islands.

You haven't even read the article, have you? It explicitly says that in all other contexts, aside from political, Great Britain refers to the main island alone.

....We covered this way back in A level Geography.

Great Britain in geographical terms refers to the Mainland and accessory islands.
Britain refers to the mainland.

Great Britain includes the islands because it is "greater" than Britain. Now that's just simple wording.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source. This sort of thing is just common knowledge man.

No, Wikipedia is a reliable source, you should stop listening to your teachers. It is just as reliable as every other site out there, it gives references for it's sources, and that's all you need for reliability.

It is called Great Britain because it is the greatest part of Britain, it comes from the Roman term "Britannia Major", which literally means Great Britain. Wikipedia has given it's sources, you have not.

I checked the sources on that quote you are heavily depending on and....
They are using two conflicting definitions. So no, it's not reliable.

And yet, common knowledge over-rules.
Today everybody knows Great Britain to be the extended one and Britain to be the mainland. Which is why it is referred to as mainland Britain, not mainland Great Britain.

I'll rely on the people to act as my sources......and so far.... I seem to be correct.

You just provided a logical fallacy, "Everybody knows it as such, and so it is as such". You have nothing to back up your claim, only that someone told you so, and that it's common sense. Sorry, but that doesn't cut it. All right, I'll give you another source that isn't Wikipedia.
