To put all the "chicken or the egg" type of comments and questions concerning Cubone's mask to rest, it's pretty obvious that the Cubones and Marowaks have an elephant graveyard type of tendency, always going to particular places to die if they can make the trip, thus providing plenty of bones to choose from for future generations' clubs and helmets.

in pokémon origin episodes Cubone's mother can be seen before she died
the cubone however was already wearing his mother's skull.

Why is no one asking were her skull went? Like if she was wearing one shouldn't there be two there? (i have never watched the show or played the games)
User avatar #49 to #46 - garaichu ONLINE (10/25/2013) [-]
Not sure HOW, but in this comic it looks like the skull she "wears" turns into the her "inner" skull. So she only has one skull on the outside. You can see the "ears" on her skull turns into horns from pic 1 through 3.

When a Cubone evolves anyhow, the skull they wear seems to fuse with their head, so if this comic isn't too far off, the skull is pretty much inherited from mother to son/daughter.
#55 to #49 - soule (10/25/2013) [-]
Guys. Marrowak only has one skull. And that's it's head. See how there's no skin around the eyes?
User avatar #61 to #55 - justmedude (10/25/2013) [-]
But what if its eyes are just bigger than the holes in the skull? You wouldn't be able to see any skin.
#74 to #61 - soule (10/25/2013) [-]
Here's a better image also showing that his mouth is, in fact, the jawbone.

Then you'd see lines that imply depth in the eye sockets in the skull. :U

Ehhhh, I still wish to believe the Kangaskhan theory, it seem most plausible to me, and it seems like a better story to me. Also, if the Marowak mother dies at childbirth, then how the **** does it properly reproduce as a species?
User avatar #47 to #40 - chuckbillrow (10/25/2013) [-]
the Kangaskhan thing is just a theory? i thought it was canon
User avatar #70 to #47 - schneidend (10/25/2013) [-]
It's a theory. They wouldn't be separate Pokemon if it were true.

The skull on cubone's head was it mother's skull after she died. In the new anime, Pokemon: Origins, there is an episode when Team Rocket kills a Marowak, which was the Cubone's mother. It was a very, very sad episode

no i know all that. but who is the weird bird pokemon, and what did she say after the thing about seeing his mom?
#15 to #12 - missraven (10/25/2013) [-]
It's called Spritzee. It's a new (pure) fairy type Pokemon that evolves into Aromatisse.
User avatar #13 to #12 - exoskeletonjew ONLINE (10/25/2013) [-]
Oh. The trainer told the bird pokemon to use the move 'Taunt'. It taunted Cubone by saying that about it's mother. and the bird pokemon is new too x/y. I don't know it's name :/

That's not true, it's a little annoying how people believe this so quickly.
Missing No. is a place holder not some 'baby kangaskhan' theory.
User avatar #56 to #5 - pokemonnuzlocke (10/25/2013) [-]
This is true but I always had something else in mind.

Cubones and Marowaks lived together in harmony until the Kangaskahn nation attacked. Mother Kangaskahns won the war and stole baby cubones as prize. They would raise the cubones considering thier marowak mothers are dead. While nurturing the cubones, the kangaskahns took off their skull helmet and bones because no healthy cubone should be involved in combat. They kept the cubones in their pouches while in battle to protect the young cubones.

Give missingno a rare candy. What does it evolve in Exactly.
User avatar #44 to #36 - breadcrumbtheif (10/25/2013) [-]
Technically there are 39 missingnos. The original Red and Blue game had Pokemon index numbers up to 190: the original 151, plus 36 Pokemon that first appeared in the second gen, indices for kabutops and aerodactyl fossils, and an index for "ghost," which was presumably an alternate haunter sprite. It is the extra 39 indices which appear as Missingno in game, and they all have the moveset and types (normal/bird).

ps. I have no idea what the bird type is, if I had to guess I'd say it's either a placeholder for the flying type or was meant to be a type that differentiated bird Pokemon like Pidgey from non-bird flying like Charizard.

User avatar #39 to #31 - captainwow (10/25/2013) [-]
>Cubone, 1996
>Mega Kankaskahn, 2013

They decided to keep the evolution lines separate, why would Mega Kankaskahn's baby look anything like Cubone?
