What do you guys think was the best individual game/generation? I loved G/S the most. They introduced registered items, A button HM moves, and the opportunity to go to multiple regions.

Not to mention it was the only generation to build off of another generation's story in a major way.

Ruby and Sapphire, because I started with them and was young enough to be completely awestruck.

Hands down Emerald.

But Pearl was fun- I could play with my brother who had Diamond.

While Silver was my first and I had the best times with Silver (since my best friend at the time had Gold and we did **** together all the time), I would say FIreRed is my favorite. It had a lot to do, even if it did keep reminding me that I had nobody to play it with.

Then again, this opinion could come from the fact that I've only played those two and Ruby and Sapphire. I'm very reluctant to play past Gen 3 because I REALLY don't want to learn more than the 300-ish I already know. I know a few names, though, like... Turtwig.... and some water/ice penguin starter. Piplup?
Really the only reason I don't get X or Y when they come out is because I don't have a DS and I would never actually have time or reason to get a handheld. I'm either at work or doing **** on my computer like Anno 2070 or something.

TL;DR I personally find FireRed to be my favorite.

I loved all of the generation, but I loved d/p because it left so much more to do after you actually beat the game (catching legendaries, battle factory, ect)

if I voted from nostalgia, I would say the 2nd generation, but thinking realistically, the 5th generation was amazing in it's story, music, and aesthetic, and it had a better fighting system with the physical and special moves introduced in 4th gen.

I loved G/S as well. They introduced a lot of interesting things. In addition to what you mentioned, I also liked the new pokeballs that kurt made for you and I found the element of time interesting when I was younger.

For me, its a tie between G/S and R/S. I liked R/S for the additional pokemon, the diving feature, and because of Blazeken. Not only is he my favorite pokemon, but he was the very first pokemon I raised to Level 100

I agree with you. I started with R/B/Y games, but the way that G/S/C integrated the original plot and region was amazing. I still have my very first Feraligatr from when Crystal first came out.

When it comes to pokemon, 3rd gen is my favourite. In 2nd generation there were many literally unusable pokemon (furret, ledian, yanma, sunflora), 4th was kinda crappy and mostly focused on old mons' evolutions, 5th is okay design-wise but many mons evolve at insanely high levels. 6th looks promising though.
Plot. 1st gen's became boring after replaying so many times and it wasn't that great first time. 2nd gen's plot was a bit better and somewhat less annoying (damn silph co. and their teleporters), yet fighting 20 rockets with 5 koffings each multiple times can't be considered fun. It all seemed a bit forced to me; it was as if they used 5 different ideas and put them together. 3rd gen had pirates vs guidos. They were never as annoying as team rocket cause they appeared in much smaller swarms. The story was refreshing after the whole "we take over stuff for the sake of taking over stuff" stuff. 4th gen gave us ridiculously boring story filled with gangsters in ugly costumes. This is the only generation i haven't finished. It's just so boring I can't even. B&W has more complex plot and much more character development. It was probably the best one. B2&W2's plot is interesting to know but tiring to play through. Oh, and Hugh was annoying as **** and Colress was completely unecessary, I mean, why was he even in these games? 5th gen games also had ******* of postgame things to do and that's a good thig for a game to have.
Mechanics and stuff were getting better and better of course. From 1st gen's glitchiness to 6th gen's sitting on benches.
So, while gens 1 and 3 have a great nostalgic value for me, I have to admit that 5th generation was the best in overall. Especially the B&W which had more friendly and relaxed atmosphere, not the " **** is going down" one like in sequels.

Well I'd actually say the fifth generation: Black 2 and White 2 to be specific.
It's a bit of an unpopular opinion, but aside from the second-rate Pokemon designs, the overall feel of the game was amazing. It felt like you were actually in the game. The graphics were amazing (I remember first visiting Castellia City, and dear god I was blown away) and the plot is amazing too. I had chills when I battled Ghetsis in my White 2. I was damn near crying when Hugh got to see his sister's Pokemon again.

TL;DR Black 2 and White 2 because plot and graphics.

User avatar #130 to #10 - drenforcicle (07/29/2013) [-]
I agree as well. Many people give the gen **** because of Garbodor and Vanilluxe, but other than htose there are pretty amazing pokemon too. For ***** sake, Volcanora is a beast and the 3 legendaries based off of the Three Musketeers are amazing, as well as the Elite Four being a much bigger bitch to deal with. Hydreigon is an amazing powerhouse, and I have a feeling dark's immunity to psychic will be changed to fairy in gen 6, making Hydreigon that one little **** that avoids everything.
#157 to #130 - mexicanus (07/30/2013) [-]
wait, but in the trailer, sylveon uses moonblast (or something like that) on hydreigon and it said "super effective." This means that dark doesn't have an immunity to fairy and that fairy will be super effective against both dark and dragon types (if it was weak to dark type, it wouldn't say "super effective).
User avatar #159 to #157 - drenforcicle (07/30/2013) [-]
Hydreigon is Dark/dragon, not full dark. Of course it would be super effective, it's a dark type.

What I really am upset with the newer generations is not the new pokemon or the staunch dedication to the same old formula. It is the RIVALS. Rivals are not RIVALS anymore, but friends, and it's annoying. Every turn in Gen. 5 lead to seeing a friend, or gym leader, or "rival," etc. How about bringing back some alone time to bond with the only characters that should only really matter the most? You know, YOUR ******* TEAM

Really excited about Gen. 6, especially the graphics, customization, and new pokemon, but I am really doubtful that Game Freak is going to bring back the intense rivalries from Gen. 1 and Gen. 2, since apparently THERE IS GOING TO BE ******* 4 OF THEM. ALL FRIENDLY! You know they are just going to pester and hold your hand through the game. Seriously Game Freak, it only worked for Brenden/May and Wally, but that is it! Bring back a Blue or Silver like rival
User avatar #150 to #136 - xdeathspawnx (07/29/2013) [-]
I agree. I was never interested in what the friends (May, wally, cheren, bianca, etc.) but when I beat silver and finally got him to change the way he trained his pokemon in silver as a kid it was a big deal to me, because I felt like I had earned his friendship.

Hooold up, opinion/rant coming through.

I don't get why people hate on the newer gens for the Pokemon design when that isn't even the issue.

They should hate it for the terrible ******* stories.
The stories are all rehashes of each other. And Gen. 5 was the worst. There's so much handholding.

The Gold and Silver games were amazing, they introduced SO many new things. The biggest one for me, was getting to visit another region.
And we haven't seen it since..

I feel like the producers/designers are holding out on us. Not giving us the full potential of what these games could, neigh, SHOULD contain, and are instead just upgrading the visuals.

Just throw in another cliché pokemon villain with a world domination plan and we're set to go.

What I would like to see in a Pokemon game are some ******* choices. Some options. (Inb4: Fight, Pokemon, Bag, Run Away)

I have nothing against linear games, but with the Pokemon games it just feels as if you are going through the motions.
