The pokedex entries for height and weight don't mach up with the anime whatsoever.
User avatar #65 to #5 - Rollerofdouble (09/08/2013) [-]
They ret-conned it by saying that the Alpha male Charizards are absolutely huge, at like 10-12ft tall, to make it have a bit of sense.
#102 to #65 - Rascal (09/08/2013) [-]
So, assuming that they meant that Ash's Charizard is alpha, what the hell are those huge Charizards from that one episode? Super Saiyan Mega Alpha Charizard?
User avatar #116 to #102 - Rollerofdouble (09/09/2013) [-]
Lets just say Charizards are like Anacondas, they continuously grow until they die, that makes sense!

Wait, if lt. surge is 7 pikachus(each for about 30 cm(1 feet)) and ash is at least half smaller, that means he's about 3 pikachus tall, so he's 90 cm (3 feet) tall.
User avatar #87 to #46 - KabulMan (09/08/2013) [-]
there was a post somewhere on here that said he was between 7-8 ft tall (7 pikachus)
User avatar #88 to #87 - SuperSixONE (09/08/2013) [-]
Yes, I know
If Ash is shorter then previously thought
Then Lt. Surge is then smaller aswell
User avatar #74 to #46 - stupro (09/08/2013) [-]
We already discussed that. He's tall about 7 pikachus I think.

Lets not forget that a lot of pokedex facts are ******* INSANE.

Fire types tend to be hotter than the sun, arcanine can run faster than jets can fly, some ice pokemon are cold enough to stop atoms vibrating, etc etc.

Its just japs estimating western measurements, and getting them insanely wrong
User avatar #106 to #15 - thesinful (09/08/2013) [-]
Considering that 10 year olds are filling in the pokedex entries, none of that is remotely surprising.
#42 to #15 - Rascal (09/08/2013) [-]
Don't forget that Wailords are less dense than the air.
User avatar #44 to #42 - heartlessrobot (09/08/2013) [-]
They're the FLOAT whale type.
#32 to #15 - awec (09/08/2013) [-]
I'm fairly certain all the pokedex entries are written as if the player had written them - as if a 10 year old was indeed studying each Pokemon and recording their findings to the best of their ability.
#17 to #15 - FatherPedobear (09/08/2013) [-]
That would mean some ice pokemon are Absolute Zero, or 0 degrees Kelvin. Wow.
#18 to #17 - popeflatus ONLINE (09/08/2013) [-]
Absolute zero cannot exist though....thank goodness this is just a fantasy.. ~
#19 to #18 - FatherPedobear (09/08/2013) [-]
Indeed. But, if an ice pokemon was cold enough to stop atoms movement, that's what it would be. Because the colder something is, the slower its atoms move. And that's our second interaction in like 10 minutes btw
#23 to #19 - runningwyeld (09/08/2013) [-]
Yeah, but some atoms/molecules will stop moving before absolute zero. It's all relative
#103 to #23 - Rascal (09/08/2013) [-]
Atoms and molecules never stop moving. Ever. Even at Absolute Zero. Absolute Zero does not mean they don't move, its just indicates minimal amount of movement possible. But as I said, they never stop moving.
#20 to #19 - popeflatus ONLINE (09/08/2013) [-]
I'd call our second interaction uncanny if it weren't you just replying to me But according to the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics, absolute zero cannot exist. This is because the momentum and position of a particle cannot be simultaneously measured, so a particle with zero energy would have a definite velocity (ie: zero) and also a definite position. This can't happen. But as I said before, its just fantasy
#21 to #20 - FatherPedobear (09/08/2013) [-]
Ah. And technically that reply was our third interaction. The second was your reply. And the first was your response to me about ******** on celebrities.
User avatar #40 to #20 - swikkid (09/08/2013) [-]
Also its a game but whatever
#59 to #40 - popeflatus ONLINE (09/08/2013) [-]
So..you differentiate between 'game' and 'fantasy' within the context of this augment? Really? I don't take that comment seriously

i don't even
User avatar #24 - instakill (09/08/2013) [-]
well as it was shown in the games, pokemon can grow to different sizes, hence the remoraid fishing contest, it could be that ash's charizard and the group of charizards he lived with were extremely large
#53 to #24 - jotsn (09/08/2013) [-]
actually charzard is considered a runt to others, so he's considered small
source: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB5RfilZVTw
User avatar #64 to #53 - instakill (09/08/2013) [-]
even then, ive never bought what this guy said, also for all we know the average is 5'7 because somewhere there is a gigantic and untapped source of charizards that are less than a foot tall
User avatar #66 to #64 - instakill (09/08/2013) [-]
another point could be that it bases the height and weight off of the first instance of that pokemon that the pokedex encounters
#48 - myaccountisnew (09/08/2013) [-]
My favorite theory on these things is that the pokedexes are written by 10 year olds, so they over-exaggerate.

And weighs 30.9 lbs (14 kg).

I always thought he was ******* tiny.

#29 - mrspi (09/08/2013) [-]
Technically, Ash is a 10 year old, Japanese kid, so... he'd be tiny, meaning the size of Charizard is still pretty reasonable in the picture
User avatar #68 to #29 - zorororonoa (09/08/2013) [-]
Ash is 4 feet tall, or at least he is supposed to be.
User avatar #30 to #29 - konradkurze (09/08/2013) [-]
5'7 and almost twice ash's height

the **** is a 10 year old boy 3 feet tall?
User avatar #31 to #30 - kgblack (09/08/2013) [-]
in the episodes with Lt surge you can see that ash is like half Lt surges height so unless he is a mega man beast that is 8 feet tall then yeah ash is like 3 feet tall
User avatar #109 to #31 - konradkurze (09/08/2013) [-]
yeah, surge does look like a space marine next to ash
#36 to #31 - lonesoldier (09/08/2013) [-]
You forgot Lt. Surges was like 2 feet taller than the guy standing next to him.
User avatar #37 to #36 - kgblack (09/08/2013) [-]
hes maybe a foot - foot and a half taller and they are about the same height as ash and friends they are probably in their early teens
#67 to #37 - strifethethird (09/08/2013) [-]
Lt. Surges was in the military though and Japans minimum age for enlisting is 18, i also looked up online and a pokemon wikia page said he's about 30 years old and about 6FT tall and if ASH is half his height then yea ash is about 3 Feet.
i was trying to find an example of how tall Ash is and found pic related.
User avatar #4 - tannerninja (09/08/2013) [-]
Maybe this is why Lt Surge looks like a giant.
User avatar #50 - caterpiec (09/08/2013) [-]
It's because it's made in Japan that they look so big in comparison to people.
#16 - tigerstyle (09/08/2013) [-]
the caption lmao

I never understood the thought process in determining pokemons' height and weight.
I mean, Onix was a 28 ft long rock snake...
...and weighs less than 500 pounds
User avatar #58 to #49 - strifethethird (09/08/2013) [-]
maybe on it's skin is made of rock and the rest is bones and organs or something
User avatar #90 to #58 - Darianvincent ONLINE (09/08/2013) [-]
Even then he'd weigh a lot more than 500 pounds.
User avatar #47 - trollinggenius (09/08/2013) [-]
considering that pikachu is a mouse and he is the size of ash's torso, hes pretty fukken small
User avatar #7 - VincentKing ONLINE (09/08/2013) [-]
plus lets not forget that a dunsparce and a Salamence are the same size.
User avatar #9 to #8 - VincentKing ONLINE (09/08/2013) [-]
Salamence: You need to login to view this link

Dunsparce: You need to login to view this link

Look at their height values, both are 4’11” / 1.5m. At least research it before you try to call someone out on it.
User avatar #10 to #9 - chaosnazo (09/08/2013) [-]
My point is that most snake-like creatures are measured in lenght and most quaped creatures are measured from feet to shoulder

So Dunssparce' LENGHT is 1.5m and Salamance' HEIGT is 1.5m
User avatar #11 to #10 - VincentKing ONLINE (09/08/2013) [-]
A textless post doesn't really convey much of a point. Its like me showing everyone a picture of a mules asshole, and expecting them to realise it's my opinion on the current government.
#12 to #11 - chaosnazo (09/08/2013) [-]
Sorry then, will not repeat it.

Yes I am, and we just got Tony Abbott in so you know it is true.

Hold on!! I have a theory.....

Pikmin takes place in a world that is just like earth, in pikmin 3 we see how the continents haven't yet formed into thier current state, and still appear like a broken up Pangea. Also, all of the creatures are like pokemon, the insects, the aquatic beasts who use bubbles as a defense, the fiery blowhogs, the bearded amprats, everything. The humans of the pokemon universe are Hocotatians and Koppaites who have colonized PNF-404, and through training, and careful breeding, have made the local wildlife into thier own guardians. The Koppaites are peaceful and evolve to create the cities and territories we see today, while the Hocotatians are greedy, and form the various criminal teams throughout this new world, they have all grown in stature, yet we still see some very short pokemon (like charizard) tower over them.
User avatar #108 to #94 - thehonorwolf (09/08/2013) [-]
Pikmin takes place on our earth, not a planet like earth. It's earth several thousand years, after the apocalypse wiped human beings and most other large orangisms on the planet.
#110 to #108 - fuckatron (09/08/2013) [-]
Exactly what I mean, the people from Koppai and Hocotate come after our apocalypse, and start a new civilization on earth, eventually evolving into the people of Pokemon's world.
User avatar #111 to #110 - thehonorwolf (09/08/2013) [-]

Wasn't Ash's Charizard really ******* small?
User avatar #85 to #79 - charlesengine (09/08/2013) [-]
compared to the other charizard in the episode where ash leaves him I think his Charizard was really small..
User avatar #75 - irsmrt (09/08/2013) [-]
dratini's actualy TALLER than charizard. Dratini is 5'11
#45 - bibbity (09/08/2013) [-]
My personal headcanon is that the listed pokedex heights and weights are the minimum for a newly evolved pokemon, and they keep growing from there. The only other option I have is to come to terms with the fact that I'm a foot and a half taller than a Nidoking, and I'm just not willing to accept that.
#63 to #45 - strifethethird (09/08/2013) [-]
this could be it, maybe it depends on the age of the pokemon, for example a Nidoking and Nidoqueen about 5 feet, now that's an adult Nidoking, but in the pokemon Movie Mewtwo Returns there are baby Nidoqueen and Rhidon and they're about half the size of their parents, even though they're the final evolution (except Rhidon) they can also be that size because they're clones, but no one in the movie says anything about this being a reason they just say that they're babies.
User avatar #26 - roderick (09/08/2013) [-]
Well, Ash is asian.....
#1 - masarua (09/07/2013) [-]
Ash's charizard used to be smaller than the other charizards, but he has grown alot since then and is now about the same size as the others...

#2 to #1 - masarua (09/07/2013) [-]
I forgot to add that he's 7'3" now.
