You never really consider how all the other trainers you meet along the way react to being beaten. Like you're just beating all these legendary undefeated trainers. You're pretty much going around the world ending people's careers. Even Brock who sucks to begin with must want to kill himself after he gets beaten by some 10 year old who just started that afternoon.

some day, the blueness in your name will become self aware and we will all be taken over by blue text.

watch Pokemon Origins (4 episode special based on the games)
The gym leaders aren't there to beat you, they are there to teach you to become a great trainer. The badges you get from them show how much experience you have. They specifically choose how many and which pokemon to fight you with based on how many badges you have.

So it's actually a gym instead of an arena. Cool.

So the only arena in the game is the elite 4 and multiplayer?
User avatar #114 to #106 - jaggedherp (12/05/2013) [-]
He's talking about the anime, where in Ash's thing it was a contest for who was the better trainer, not helping them be better. Origins is different.

origin is better.

Hence why they're called gym battles

But Gym Leaders would want to see the next generation of great Trainers appear, and would want to be part of their story. I forget which interview it was(GameInformer of last year), but it was stated that the Gym Leaders love it when someone strong appears...

Well, "losing to trainers so they can qualify to challenge the E4" is pretty much the job description for Gym Leaders, they are there just for the challenge, if we used their PWT teams as base for their powerline, every single gym leader is capable of decent strategies(some more than others), all of which would completelly anihilate a newbie player.

You never beat a gym leader, they are going easy on you, remember that.

you can beat them properly, after you beat the e4 in ruby/sapphire/emerald you get their numbers and they call to challenge you, they go full out then
User avatar #67 to #37 - creepingorion (12/04/2013) [-]
I was not aware of this. You can challenge Gyms again in Gen 3?
User avatar #70 to #67 - jacksipian (12/05/2013) [-]
yeah, but only after you beat the Elite 4, they call you and ask for a rematch and when you go again they have much higher level **** than they did originally
User avatar #69 to #67 - admiralen ONLINE (12/05/2013) [-]
yeah, you get the leaders phone numbers and call/get called by them from time to time, they are way more hardcore and get stronger for every fight
User avatar #6 to #1 - brokentrucker (12/04/2013) [-]
Why don't they ever like, see the ******* manifestation of death come bearing down on their team, and ******* **** their pants? If I call in a level 100 Yveltal, ************* should be ******** bricks.

I understand what you're saying but they couldn't have been completely undefeated. Everyone had to start somewhere. Also you didn't really ruin their lives. Yes I'm sure it was a hell of a blow getting beaten by a 10 year old, but they are also there as stepping stones to higher championships. People beating them occasionally is apart of their job. Otherwise there would be no need for an Elite Four. Now constantly beating the **** out of the Elite Four over and over again is a major dick move.
User avatar #4 to #3 - I Am Monkey (12/04/2013) [-]
It must really take a toll on you knowing you're a stepping stone for noobs to beat.
Also, I have no doubt that every member of the Elite Four kill them self off-screen right after you beat them.
#5 to #4 - butchersteve (12/04/2013) [-]
In that case take into account all of the people they did beat. Including this exact ten year old. Most gyms aren't beatin the first time around. This would lift their spirits alteast some. Considering the fact that this compared to some menial jobs would be awesome.
