the manga follows the story by each region has their protagonists. RBG includes Red, Blue (the girl), and Green (Gary Oak in anime). GSC follows Gold (Ethan in game). Silver, and Crystal aka Crys, RSE follows Ruby (Brendan), Sapphire (May), and Emerald (not seen in anime or game), DPP follows Diamond (not in anime), Pearl (Barry), and Platinum (Dawn), BW is Black and White (both not seen in anime; Bianca and Cherin are also in the manga, but not as prominant)

That description. And Gold's father isn't even more or less obviously Giovanni like Red. I have no theories at all for Gold's father. Poor kid.

I don't think Giovanni could be Red's father... he is Silver's father already, so unless the two were to be brothers it is a no-no...

It's make for some interesting stories, having Silver and Red be brothers.

Did no one ever play Blue version? Everyone refers to the character player as Red, but if you play Blue version you are Blue. Just a point I have been wondering.

It has to do with the fact that he's called 'Red' in the manga, I think.

Actually, it is because his name became canonically Red in Gold/Silver, as well as in HeartGold/SoulSilver.

That makes sense. I have never read the manga. I mostly played the games, did some card and anime in my younger days.

Originally, there was going to be a choice of a male or female character. They chose Red for the Male, and Green for the female, (In Japan, it was Red and Green versions) with the Rival being Blue. They ended up cutting out the female character due to limits on the Gameboy, so they re-named the Rival Green. Then Blue version came out, and updated the graphics and fixed some major glitches. The Red and Blue versions we got in the states are actually both modified versions of the Japanese Blue version, our Red modeled after their Red, our Blue modeled after their Green. So we call the Rival Blue here, while they call him Green in Japan. But Red has always historically been the canon name for the Gen 1 protagonist, ever since the games were being developed.
