Mawile Master Race

She's hard to train from the beginning because of low attack and bad moves and you don't get her mega-evolve until much later, but she's by far the best for defense.

Speed boost. To be honest though, it isn't a big deal for people running Staraptor or Pidgeot.

#141 to #57 - generalwatergate ONLINE (10/29/2013) [-]
my torterra in diamond absolutly RAPES EVERYTHING. then again, i do have a habit of overleveling my starters. let's put it this way: he was a torterra before the THIRD gym. i'm training for the fifth gm and he's in the MID-LATE 50'S.

User avatar #64 to #63 - murrlogic (10/28/2013) [-]
Torterra has 109 HP and 105 Def. Meaning unless you wanna make a Toxic x Leech Seed Staler he's just not as good.

Honestly. Sceptile or Serperior are better Grass types. But from a personal standpoint Iove Venasaur out of all the others

why is blazekin banned?

User avatar #52 to #50 - ohgodwaitimatheist (10/27/2013) [-]
Because his Dream World ability, Speed Boost.
User avatar #53 to #52 - diabolicgnome (10/27/2013) [-]
so im guessing speed boost is just to powerfull
User avatar #55 to #53 - ohgodwaitimatheist (10/27/2013) [-]
Well, the ability alone is not, Ninjask has it but it's not so much of a big deal because it can't abuse it alone, Blaziken, on the other hand, can use it freely, he has swords dance, Hi Jump Kick, Blaze Kick, Brave Bird, etc etc etc. If it wasn't for Speed Boost, he would be on lower tiers.
User avatar #56 to #55 - diabolicgnome (10/27/2013) [-]
what do you mean he can use it freely?
User avatar #58 to #56 - ohgodwaitimatheist (10/27/2013) [-]
I meant that he is the only one that has it and can exploit it at same time.

And, oh, Blaziken can learn Baton Pass.
User avatar #89 to #58 - chaossniper ONLINE (10/28/2013) [-]
sorry still don't get it what does an extra speed stage add to those attacks
User avatar #98 to #89 - slendermanshadow (10/28/2013) [-]
I'll attempt to explain a little better. In generation 4, the only reason infernape was so good was because it outsped and had the attack stat to take out pokemon in one hit. it was a glass cannon that just died if something hit it with a good attack. Blaziken has better attack than infernape but the defenses were the same so it just got killed without doing anything. Meaning the main problem was it's lack of speed. Speed boost blaziken creates a monster due to it's base 120 attack and 110 special attack (Both higher than infernapes) because after a single speed boost, (max speed ev and nature) it reaches a speed stat of 426. That outspeeds every pokemon except for deoxys and ninjask, the latter not being able to do much against blaziken. Tl:dr, the speed doesnt add anything to the attacks themselves but when a base 120 attack pokemon uses a move that is STAB and has base 120 power (flare blitz) and outspeeds essentially everything after a single speed boost, **** gets cray.
User avatar #71 to #58 - theoriginalajax (10/28/2013) [-]
can't they just remove it for future versions?
User avatar #107 to #71 - chezburgadominator (10/28/2013) [-]
That's like having a pokemon evolve into one thing for 3 games straight then saying 'nah we think this is a lot cooler' and erasing that evolution from existence and giving it a different one. Not an alternative new one, but replacing the old one.

Point is, once something like this is established so heavily it can't just be changed. They HAVE changed Hidden Abilities for a few Pokémon this generation but I don't think they'd do it for Blaziken.

How does a pokemon get banned?
User avatar #45 to #44 - mysticpichu (10/27/2013) [-]
blaziken on its own is already seen as a op pokemon with speed boost which boosts speed every turn now with a mega evo it gives blazike a highly unfair advantage over other pokemon. this is why a lot of people that do competitive battling ban it. it is still legal in official games I believe
#43 - anonymous (10/27/2013) [-]
Since X/Y's release practically everyone uses Blaziken, Mewtwo, Xerneas, Yveltal in their party. Out of 86 battles I have only fought 6 people that did not use them. Eventually I had to develop an uber killing team just because of this. Plus it's sad that you can almost predict which moves they will spam, it's like I'm facing the same guy over and over. As for mega rings, I love the feature of that in which it changes appearance but oh my god it's like players can't live without them now.

Like I said, once you know how they work, those players are really easy to take out. Though more than half the time when they see that they are about to lose to "regular" pokemon, they end up forfeiting. Even when that counts as a win, it still feels empty. If you're gonna battle, be prepared to follow through for worse.

All rants aside, those few times when you are able to have a proper battle are fun as hell. Win or lose, if it was a good ******* match, I'm satisfied
User avatar #138 to #43 - priestoftheoldones (10/29/2013) [-]
I would still find myself an exploud, aggron, raichu and luxary. I don't have Y/X but with a greninja on that team, oh-hoho-oh. Death to all.
User avatar #109 to #43 - chezburgadominator (10/28/2013) [-]
I feel you, you also left out the fact that a lot of teams are bringing OHKO moves for the sake of trying to OHKO. Three times I have fought teams with both Xerneas and Abomasnow that do nothing but spam Sheer Cold(And it's annoying when they get it on the first try)
User avatar #51 to #43 - KazumaKyu (10/27/2013) [-]
... the person fighting you is completely unconcerned with how fulfilling a battle feels to you. When you realize that you are going to lose, you forefit. Continuing is a waste of your time and theirs when the battle is already a foregone conclusion.
#49 to #43 - slend ONLINE (10/27/2013) [-]
Good grief and if this isn't the truth I don't know what is.

I've made a Reuniclus into a special defender with light screen/Recover/Infestation/psychic.
It ends up with enemies -always- sending out a Mewtwo that spam psychic or aura sphere and basically ending up in a 'who can use recover the longest!' battle.

Super evolution was a fun concept, but I'm hanging to the feeling that they should've left it out of competitive play altogether.
#99 to #49 - anonymous (10/28/2013) [-]
How I manage is my Umbreon wall w/ Moonlight, Payback, Toxic, Mean Look and an all around high def and special defense stat

I usually start out with Mean Look so they can't switch their "precious" legendary out of battle then poison them with Toxic. Then it's all a matter of waiting it out by healing with Moonlight, speed up the process by occasionally attacking with Payback at the risk of losing HP.

Of course there are several loop holes to this, but as for general ubers and legends, it will work. You could do the same thing with Infestation, though the downside is that it does wear off
#130 to #99 - slend ONLINE (10/28/2013) [-]
It wears off, yeah, that's definitely a downside. It's a shame I couldn't find a replacement for it that's more permanent, but, it does speed up the damage, luckily.

I'm going to try the same with Umbreon I'm thinking, it's a far more permanent solution.
Of course, steel types counter this strategy entirely, but of course, we've got more pokemon than one on our party now don't we? ;)
