Hey! I'm just now finally getting into D&D after promising myself for so long that I would do so, and basically.... I'd like to know if anyone else would like to join me, and start an adventure, maybe even a campaign.

Given that I'm a total novice, I won't exactly be discriminating against anybody who's particularly new, though it might help to have someone with some experience as a DM! (I could do it myself, but given that I'm just now learning the game, hopping straight into DMing could prove a very rough ride for the players...)

So, someone who knows how to would be perfectly welcome as the DM, and for those who want to get into the actual game, but don't know the rules, you can either by the rulebook at a hobby store (which I didn't do, btw...) or you could try this link:

It links to The Pirate Bay, so if you're against piracy, or otherwise can't use torrent applications, but still want in, ask me and I could send it to you some other way.

That includes the player guides, Dungeon master guide + monster handbook, and several other resources (as PDF's).

Anyways! Finally on to the point, I'd be willing to play several different ways; Snailing it along in the comments, using some other game as an intermediary, using a program with it, and voice chat would always be an option (though not a requirement, mind you!).

Out of the people who want to start this with me, List what options you're willing to work with, and whether or not you have any experience with the FOURTH EDITION (not gonna use 3.5, or anything like that, because I'd rather use the newest set....), and we can work together on which suits our purposes best. Thank you very much!

TL;DR: Thread for getting together D&D games online. If you don't like D&D, please just skip and don't thumb down.

I would caution you, as someone who has been playing D&D for about 10 years, I would advise against playing the 4.0 edition. The fourth edition changes a lot of the core rules that made D&D so fun to play, and essentially made it into WoW. 3.5 edition gives the most complete experience of the original D&D, and gives the DM all the tools necessary to forge a campaign that is both fundamentally sound, and rewarding for the players. TL;DR play 3.5

so, i know this is really late, but i am thinking of getting into d&d, but i have been thinking about doing some solo adventures to start (to get a feeling of it) any advice?

I would actually suggest playing with a group first, or maybe one other person. Nothing helps troubleshoot like a group of people telling you how you're doing it wrong haha. The best way to start is to read cover to cover all the core rulebooks (DM guide, Player handbook, and Monster manual), as knowing the fundamentals before playing is crucial. Also, are you planning to DM, or be a player?

right now i am on a downloading spree of everything i can get a hold of. i have the player's handbook for 3.5 and 4, and the dm ones as well(don't know if they are the same or if i just have 2 parts of a 20 book set, but i have these tools and i will see what i can make them do). but for me it is hard to have a group because i don't have a steady connections other than when i am at work, and not many people in this dead city, but if i take my playing of skyrim any farther i don't think i will be having fun, i am now playing as a human that can only use swords(1 at a time) no shield, no magic, able to mix potions, and enchant weapon(but then he has to use that weapon for the rest of the game) and can only wear armor on his hands and feet(light), and has to either wear clothes or robes.

3.5 is the edition you want for all the books. As for the group thing, if you can't find people to play that's unfortunate, because D&D is a game meant to play with others. I would suggest maybe skype or a similar program so that you can play with anyone. As for Skyrim, your fighter sounds like he has some strange specializations, but it's hard for me to comment without seeing all the stats and stuff.

i've just started, so he is a lv.5. i'm trying to get enough gold to set up a base, tired of sleeping in caves (runs a 12 hour day 8am - 8pm), and need a place to store extra items.
but as i said, i don't have great connections, unless i am at work. it would be nice to have someone to guide me through it, the guide nearly gave me fits, they need to reorganize it, to find stuff i had to go back and forth, and then i had to read ahead to find something about skills, so i had to redistribute because it didn't tell you what you could chose at first, then i had questions about something so i had to use my ****** phone to look them up.

I would be interested in helping. I have DM materials, players handbook 3 and Heroes of the forgotten kingdoms.

I would like to join, but I'm such a noob I would have no Idea what to do and where to start. Some of my friends actually play d&d every week, and I always try getting into it, with no success.

Well, reading a player manual would be a good start. (Just follow the link in the content description, if you need a download.) Once they know you know the rules, and should be able to play just fine, they'll prolly let you in. Lots of people don't want to bother with training a newbie from scratch.
User avatar #6 to #5 - xstarrk (06/01/2013) [-]
I'll look it up, but I don't think it would be fun to play with them. They have so much experience. There is just no space for me left.
User avatar #7 to #6 - oniryuuko [OP](06/01/2013) [-]
Nah, it's always fun. Just because you're new and their not, doesn't mean it's impossible, or even hard, for you to have fun with them. Ask them what their current character's levels are, and an average for their equipment, and make a character just below that. I'd not try to hard to join in, though, until they're not mid-dungeon.

We'll see. Ill download it now and read it carefully trying to understand the game. Maybe they'll let me in. If not I'll search another group or not. I don't know. It would not be that bad if they wont let me play with them, cause I can say that I finally understood d&d( Ive always wanted too). And maybe I can find someone who is willing to play with a newbie like me . (Sorry for my bad english -> not my native language)

Not my native either, seems fine, though.

As long as i can be a bard. or a barbarian rogue. im in.
User avatar #1 - harryboom (05/29/2013) [-]
i'm always up for some d&d.
but i will point out that if i'm a part of this you have no hope of having a serious story
User avatar #2 to #1 - oniryuuko [OP](05/29/2013) [-]
A serious story isn't necesary. You can have just as much fun on adventures with Sir Bearington as you can in the deep labrynths of a necropolis. :3
