funny thing is, the less your breath, the less your cells respire. Which means that your metabolism (catabolic and anabolic reactions) are severely lowered. WHICH MEANS... that you're burning less calories and will probably get fatter.

Hyperventilating basically causes the same effect as holding your breath, you are breathing so fast that you cannot adequately exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide, thus starving your cells and slowing your metabolism.
