I suggest reading the Berserk manga, as it is the source material (still ongoing AFAIK) and the latest animated series kinda sucks. Poor / exaggerated use of CGI and sped up progression/trying to cram in too much in too little (no pun intended). If you'd rather watch something animated, you could try the Golden Age Arc movies. They're okay, even though they too use CGI for sequences such as armies on horseback.

Wait no. it was only same character designer. which is strange, because they don't look a bit like these from nge. This movie filled me with feels. I discovered catarasis and peace... It broke me for about one and half week. When ame leaves or when Yuki tells her friend / (future boyfriend?) Truth about her true identity... man that was like stabbing in heart. I'm glad that i wasn't on it in cinema.
