Assassination of Inejiro Asanuma
On October 12, 1960, Asanuma was assassinated by 17-year-old Otoya Yamaguchi, a militant nationalist, during a televised political debate for the coming elections for the House of Representatives. While Asanuma spoke from the lectern at Tokyo's Hibiya Hall, Yamaguchi rushed onstage and ran his wakizashi through Asanuma's abdomen, killing him. Japanese television company NHK was video recording the debate for later transmission and the tape of Asanuma's assassination was shown many times to millions of viewers.
The Japanese public was deeply shocked by the Asanuma assassination. In its wake, a spate of mass demonstrations for peace and order ensued across the country. The assassin Yamaguchi was captured at the scene of the crime, and a few weeks afterwards committed suicide while in police custody. After Asanuma's death, the Japan Socialist Party further divided between politicians on the left and right, ultimately disbanding and reconstituting itself as the Social Democratic Party in 1996.
The Pulitzer Prize winning photograph was taken when Yamaguchi attempted a second stab, but was apprehended beforehand.

Murder of Regina Kay Walters
This picture of 14-year-old Regina Kay Walters was taken by serial killer Robert Ben Rhoades, who toured the country in an 18-wheeler equipped with a torture chamber in the back. This photo was taken in an abandoned Illinois barn, where Rhoades killed Walters after cutting off her hair and making her wear a black dress and heels.
This photo was found on a damaged camera that had gone through the washing machine at the home of Travis Alexander. The next few shots show Alexander bleeding on the bathroom floor, minutes after being attacked. The photos were taken by Jodi Arias, Alexander's girlfriend, and the one above just minutes before she stabbed and shot him.
Tyler Hadley was an teenager from Florida who had a hard time growing up. He regularly skipped school and took drugs and was suffering from mental health problems. His parents took him to a psychiatrist and made him go to an outpatient mental health and substance abuse program. Being unpopular at school with few friends Hadley had repeatedly tried to organize a party to become popular but his parents, who were very strict in their nurture, had always declined.
On July 16, 2011 shortly before 5:00 pm, Tyler took his parents cell phones. He took three pills of ecstasy and then went to his parents' room. He stood behind his mother Mary-Jo while she worked at a computer and then beat her to death with a hammer. Hearing Mary-Jo's screams, Tyler's father Blake rushed to the scene and saw what his son had done. They stared at each other for several minutes before he beat his father to death. He spent three hours cleaning up the blood before hosting a party. He hid their bodies in the master bedroom.
Some time after the murders, Tyler made a Facebook post letting people know that he was having a party that night. He then stopped at an ATM and then picked up some friends. About 60 people gathered for the party, playing beer pong, smoking cigars and drinking. That night Tyler told one of his friends that he bludgeoned his parents with a hammer. He showed that friend the master bedroom and the blood that was in the room. The crime was then spread by word-of-mouth. Hadley was arrested early next morning.
Tyler was 17 and could not be sentenced to death by Florida law. In 2014, he was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
The picture is taken during the party, while the bodies of Hadley’s parents were lying upstairs in their bedroom.
Columbine Class Picture
At first glance, it may look like a normal class photo. But it's actually a photo from Columbine High School taken before the infamous shooting in 1999. The students in the top left pretending to aim guns at the camera are Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the teens who would end up slaughtering their classmates later that school year.
Puffing butane gas gone wrong
Quote from one of the guys: "My brother and I are both fine thank god, I got 6% burns, what happened was that we were having fun in the car filming a video with the windows closed and we smelled something funny but we didn't know it was and we didn't give it much attention, then my brother used the lighter which set the gas on fire, and I'm glad to say we are safe and all the rumours that got out are not true, and be careful of gas leaks anywhere".
Quote from reddit user: GIF
They puffed butane gas which is highly flammable, they probably left a can pumping out this butane gas and forget about it, or the kid in the front drenched his red rag in butane to sniff it and therefor filled the car with the gas. After a few minutes of laughing this idiot decides to record it and his friend in the back goes for a hit of butane from his lighter by lighting it and then blow out the flame to inhale the gas.
Idiotic or not, their screaming mixed with a cheery pop song makes it all a bit disturbing.
POW blinking in morse code to spell T-O-R-T-U-R-E during a forced interview
Stockdale was held as a prisoner of war in the Hoa Lo prison for the next seven and one-half years. As the senior Naval officer, he was one of the primary organizers of prisoner resistance. Tortured routinely and denied medical attention for the severely damaged leg he suffered during capture, Stockdale created and enforced a code of conduct for all prisoners which governed torture, secret communications, and behavior.
In the summer of 1969, he was locked in leg irons in a bath stall and routinely tortured and beaten. When told by his captors that he was to be paraded in public, Stockdale slit his scalp with a razor to purposely disfigure himself so that his captors could not use him as propaganda. When they covered his head with a hat, he beat himself with a stool until his face was swollen beyond recognition.
When Stockdale was discovered with information that could implicate his friends' "black activities", he slit his wrists so they could not torture him into confession.

The Hanging Munchkin
Who doesn’t love a good urban myth? I’m sure many of you are familiar with the Wizard of Oz movie, and some of you might also be familiar with this urban myth. For those who don’t know, I’m talking about the Hanging Munchkin myth. At the very end of the Tin Woodsman sequence, as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man skip down the yellow brick road to Emerald City something that eerily looks like a dead body can reportedly be seen gently swinging in the distance.
Official word from the studio is that the dark silhouette eerily hanging from one of the trees was a bird. But this explanation hasn't satisfied those who point out that the shadowed figure looks very much like a Munchkin hanging - not a bird. In the later remaster of the movie, the shot is edited and is made more clear that it is in fact a bird. And while many people debunked this myth already, I have to say that the shot of something that looks like a human body hanging on the tree looks pretty disturbing, even if it’s fake.
April Millsap, Winter in July: I think I almost got kidnapped omfg
14 year old, April Millsap left her home in Armada, Michigan to take her dog for a walk and get some exercise at a late afternoon hour in July, 2014. Her cellphone indicates she started an app, called Sports Tracker, that’s designed to track her routes while processing other analytical information like speed, time, and pace. Jurors in court looked on as prosecutors were able to overlay the blue line from the app tracking April’s movement on to a Google map of the area she was last seen. Prosecutors were also able to indicate on the map when incoming and outgoing text messages were made as well. The blue line persisted at a reasonable walking pace for about 15 minutes until it abruptly stopped and a suspicious series of zig-zags occurred. At some point here, April’s last text message was sent to her boyfriend: I think I almost got kidnapped omfg! After some time, the blue line began to move again for another 15 minutes, but this time away from the trail at a quick rate and towards residences at 22mph.
James VanCallis Jr., 34, sat nervously in the courtroom as the prosecution presented their evidence to the jury. James maintained that he was innocent, but a police sketch and a detailed description of a motorbike, which investigators spotted in his driveway, firmly tied him to the case. Suspicious behavior, an unconvincing alibi, and even an attempt to hide his motorbike further sealed his place in the courtroom.
The evening April disappeared, her mother, Jennifer Millsap, was prompted to search for her after repeated unanswered text messages. She found no trace of her along the trail, and turned to police for help. For 10 hours she waited at the police station awaiting results as investigators combed the area for clues. They returned to Jennifer with a photo depicting what she solemnly identified were April’s remains. James had beaten April with his motorcycle helmet, and then stomped her to death. He then discarded her body in a drainage ditch.
He lost the trial when prosecutors were able to prove his involvement beyond a reasonable doubt. He was charged for the murder, rape, kidnapping, and sexual assault of April Millsap, whom just graduated from middle school that summer. Perhaps the only words more haunting than April’s last text message to her boyfriend, was Jennifer’s message to VanCallis as he was sentenced to life imprisonment… “I hope the four walls close in on you.”
Max Headroom signal intrusion
The Max Headroom broadcast signal intrusion was a television signal hijacking that occurred in Chicago, Illinois, United States on the evening of November 22, 1987 (happy 29th anniversary I guess?). It is an example of what is known in the television business as broadcast signal intrusion. The intruder was successful in interrupting two broadcast television stations within the course of three hours. After a brief and only partially successful attempt to break into the signal of intended target of WGN-TV, the signal pirates, whose identities were never found, succeeded in getting their broadcast intruded onto WTTW during an episode of the Doctor Who serial "Horror of Fang Rock." The pirate broadcast, which lasted 90 seconds and was pre-recorded on videotape, featured an individual disguised as television character Max Headroom parodying WGN and television in general. The incident made national headlines and the people responsible have never been identified. This is the best known broadcast hijacking, due to the oddity, the same people interrupting two TV stations, and using the mask of a famous TV character in the intrusion.
Some find it scary, others find it hilarious. But imagine watching your shows and this guy suddenly pops up out of nowhere and starts rambling. It would make me uncomfortable at least.
It reminds me of Moon Man in some way.
