The Pulp Fiction one is entirely wrong. The writer's themselves have stated that it's just diamonds, but they used a lightbulb to make it look gold.

I also know, that is what the writers said, but I was just trying to remember : why does Marsellus Wallace have a band-aid on the back of his head on that first scene he appear ?
#74 to #57 - Qweeaf ONLINE (05/23/2012) [-]
I believe the band aid was because Quentin Tarantino thought the scar on the back of Ving Rhames' neck was too distracting.
User avatar #77 to #74 - gleonardi (05/23/2012) [-]
Yes, but why would tarantino put a back-of-the-neck angle i he wanted to avoid showing the scar. Plus, is a band aid really less distracting than a scar? (i have never seen the scar so im dont actually know... it might be huge)

i am actually really curious because I kinda loved the explanation in the content
#93 to #77 - Qweeaf ONLINE (05/23/2012) [-]
I don't know the reason for going along with that angle. Also, the briefcase was originally supposed to contain diamonds, but that was very interesting or original, so they didn't show the contents of the briefcase, leaving it up to your imagination.

Actually the director quentin tarantino said in an interview the contents of the briefcase are whatever the viewer want it to be originally it was going to be the briefcase from reservoir dogs but he thought the audience would find out to easily

Pulp Fiction one is wrong. Its the diamonds from reservoir dogs. this happens because of Quintin Tarintino sets all of his movies in vast interlocking parallel reality. as a matter of fact Vincent Vega (Pulp Fiction) and Vic Vega (Reservoir Dogs) are brothers. Another one of these incidents is in Inglorious Basterds, Eli Roth plays a character called Donny "The Bear Jew" Donowitz. in True Romance there's a film producer called Lee Donowitz, his son.One of the main characters in True Romance is a woman called Alabama -- the same Alabama Mr. White mentions as a former partner in Reservoir Dogs.

neat eh?

User avatar #19 to #17 - zombiesurfer (05/23/2012) [-]
I heard it slightly different. I heard that it was originially going to be diamonds but he had already used diamonds in reservoir dogs so he didn't want to use them again and just left the suitcase as a mystery.
#22 to #19 - Sammael (05/23/2012) [-]
Yes, but that was decided in post production. Film was filmed with case being diamonds, but all refrences got removed in the cutting room.
#25 to #22 - Rascal (05/23/2012) [-]
it's "whatever you want it to be" in the words of quentin tarintino... phil lamar just confirmed this on reddit yesterday....

Originally diamonds, later undetermined. Never a soul.
#28 to #17 - chazstopher (05/23/2012) [-]
Quentin tarintino had made the movie so no one would know what was in the case. it was up to the watcher. But the original idea was the soul idea.
#38 to #28 - miwauturu (05/23/2012) [-]
The original idea was the diamond idea, but he didn't want to reuse it because of reservoir dogs, look it up.

I always assumed it was gold because of the color of the glow on Vincent's face and that's probably what I'll always picture it as.

In case you forgot, the beginning of Pulp Fiction isn't just John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson driving around talking about foot massages and foreign fast food. They're out for a briefcase filled with ... orange light, apparently.
Many, many movie fans have seen the long, drawn-out theories about the film in general, and that's not even touching what's inside the briefcase. A popular theory says it's Marsellus Wallace's soul, while others claim that it's simply whatever you want it to be.According to Tarantino, it's just a MacGuffin, something to drive the plot along. Meaning that it's not important, so really, we shouldn't even be talking about this. But Tarantino's co-writer, Roger Avary, says that when they wrote the script for Pulp Fiction, it was diamonds.
Not soul-capturing diamonds. Not a giant diamond that shoots lasers. Just plain old diamonds. Why didn't they just show that? Because Tarantino had just used a case of diamonds as a major plot device in Reservoir Dogs, and he and Avary agreed that it was "too boring and predictable" to do that again. So they decided not to show them, thus giving the whole thing an air of mystery.
But they had to be hinting at something, right? Because of the orange glow that poured from the interior any time it was opened? Actually, that glow is nowhere in the script. Avary says: "...somebody had the bright idea (which I think was a mistake) of putting an orange lightbulb in there. Suddenly what could have been anything became anything supernatural. Didn't need to push the effect. People would have debated it for years anyway, and it would have been much more subtle."
