So I was saying before that getting the mirror home was tricky... Let's just say a boy scout won't be able to find his little red wagon when he leaves the carnival. What can I say, I'm no saint. Nik and Dan were about as useful as a bag of sand in the desert.
"That Carny sure was nice!" Nik cooed,
"Ya man, I wish I won a prize that cool" said Dan
"Is that the green eye of jealousy I see"
"Ah shut up, I'm just sayin' it's real cool is all!"
"You two could always help me out!" I grunting as I dragged this behemoth behind me on a much to small teetering little red wagon.
"But where would the fun be in that?" They chimed as they ran past me.
Useless, but my friends nonetheless. Eventually we got to my home and...
"SURPRISE!" shouted a whole cavalcade of neighborhood kids, my family, some schoolmates and family friends
"Oh wow... you really got me" I said as 'enthusiastically' as possible with my right eyebrow cocked as I lugged in my mirror.
"We'll take that for you, son" said my dad as he and my mum came to take it off my hands.
"Finally someone is helping me with my burden!"
"Where'd you get this anyways?" Asked my mum
"A carny gave it to me"
"And the wagon?"
"Today is a happy occasion, why ruin it?"
With that my mum and dad left and I... mingled. Now I won't call myself a loser, but well... just because I won't call myself one doesn't mean... Let's just say there were a lot more family friends than there were schoolmates, okay? Jane was there. She's the 'queen' I guess. Perfect grades, perfect looks, perfect everything. She makes it her job to be everyone's best friend. Kinda creeps me out, but I don't mind looking at her. Other than her there was Carter and Lisa, a couple of gossips, Uncle Jim and Aunt Martha, and well... a bunch of other people who don't really matter.
After the initial greetings my parents came back with the cake. Everyone sang happy birthday and pretended to genuinely care about me. It was pretty cool I guess. Then came the moment...
"Time to blow out the candles Matt!"
"Make a Wish!"
My mind drew a complete blank on what to wish for, but then, almost subconsciously I decided...
"I wish the boy in the mirror would stop tricking me!"
Whoosh... and the candles were out...
"You're not supposed to say the wish out loud, bro" whispered Dan
"I think we should get out of here" said Nik
"I couldn't agree more" I muttered as I looked at the confused expressions around the room.
