The in-game currency has real world value. The ship is worth however many billions of ISK, and that much ISK is worth 9k in real world money.

No, there is a item you can buy from the company called a P.L.E.X (pilots license extension) this can be bought or sold it game for ISK (interstellar credits, the currency of the game) a PLEX costs around 525 million ISK at the moment (this price varies all the time) so a plex, costing $20 in real life money can be converted to ISK. $9000=450 plexes= 234 billion, add the price of the modules and correct for inflation prices and presto, 300b ship
