Honestly i've never heard anyone call it "Black humor".. just dark.

In his defense, he might be translating from spanish "humor negro".

Actually it can go either way as their all just based off the term Gallows Humor which is finding funny in otherwise hopeless or dark situations.

True. but when someone says "Black humor" do you think morbid jokes, or black people chasing after melloms?
User avatar #9 to #5 - stallwallwriter (05/14/2012) [-]
Yeah yeah, I see what you did there, but the accepted term for slightly morbid humour, such as the kind that deals frequently with death or injury, is black humour.

Generally I think morbid I try not to let my thoughts sway towards racism if I can help it >.> but anyway to each their own, as far as I'm concerned it can go both ways

Considering that he's hanging from a tree, it doesn't seem too far from black humor.

At first, I thought OP was making a racist joke by saying that someone being hanged was black humor. Then I saw that it was morbid-channel, and I realized it was me being racist all along…

well I'm glad you at least got the joke in the end though I'm sorry if I made you feel racist for a moment. The racist undertone never even crossed my mind when I posted this as I was just thinking how it was poking fun at suicide which makes it a perfect example of black comedy.

Contrary to popular belief, hanging does not suffocate a person to death. The individual's neck is snapped by their own weight the instant they drop. When done right, it has been argued that this is the most painless form of killing.
User avatar #124 to #110 - drainbramage (05/15/2012) [-]
Where as this was true in the west, during the times they did it to ******* , the idea was too make to tighten the neck and tilt the head back so saliva builds up in their throat and mouth slowly drowning them.
#118 to #110 - anon (05/15/2012) [-]
Yeah um... lynching was meant to be as painful as possible, they weren't hung in the traditional death way. They were put up there to slowly die and so white people could watch them squirm.

Also the success rate of killing someone immediately when hanging them isn't great. It's good, but there is a fair amount of times where the person just suffocates. That's why it was stopped. Electrocution and giving someone the needle maybe be painful, but it will kill them 99.99% of the time.

Where I come from, execution is done by firing squad. One time, the firing squad shot at the victim but failed to hit a vital organ. The doctor present confirmed that the victim was still alive....the commander of the firing squad then nonchalantly walked up to the victim, pulled out his pistol and shot the victim at point blank range right in the cerebellum.
User avatar #135 to #126 - gameandwatched (05/15/2012) [-]
That's horrifying, and sad really.
User avatar #116 to #110 - BrotherDeath (05/15/2012) [-]
Except in the case of lynching, when the person is raised slowly from a resting point, with the rope already attatched; instead their weight dropping full-force onto the rope, it's added more gradually, causing a slower death than regular hanging.

I read it's all about the noose, if the knot is at the back, neck snap, if the knot is at the side, strangulation. This way the worst criminals could really suffer.
#115 to #110 - Cheesestyk (05/15/2012) [-]
Only if it is from a higher height though. In the way Homer was doing it here he would have suffocated before his vertebrae snapped, however you are correct otherwise.

Pic unrelated.
#137 to #110 - windsong (05/15/2012) [-]
Unless the person being hung is a minor, then the neck is too flexible and does not snap, they suffocate. Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Held in England to make the ugliest face within a cow tow, some ancient competition held annually.

I'm confused. Is the reference of black people being hanged implied as well as being
humorous? Is "Black Humor" just referencing to the fact that it's dark/anti-joking humor? Is
it just meant to reference to black people being hung? Or is it a play on words with black
humor meaning black people being hanged and meaning dark/anti-joke? Why is this
confusing me?
