Song of Saya/Saya no Uta. It's less of a game and more of a visual novel, but it's damn fascinating. Only piece of literature that I've gotten a real sense of evil from.

Looked it up. It's from a manga called "Made in Abyss," and the character's name is Mitty. She was apparently human at one point, but devolved into that thing as the result of a curse.

Actually, the original medusa was one of the three Gorgons, who I believe were priestesses turned into hideous monsters by a jealous female goddess after some shenanigans with the goddesses husband. Not sure if Zeus or Poseidon.

Well yeah, but what I was saying is that while in some versions she was cursed by Athena for being raped by Poseidon (can't hurt him, so hurt her instead), in others she was made this way so no one would ever be able to rape her again.

In some versions she retains her beauty and those who look at her turn to stone, while in others she's so ugly you turn to stone from looking at her.

To clarify, he raped her in Athena's temple as she and her sisters were priestesses of Athena. She either curses her as she can't hurt her uncle for defiling her temple, or to protect her from further harm from those who were captivated by her beauty.

A 3rd one is because she just didn't like the fact she had sex at all, as her priestesses were supposed to remain virgins or something, not because she was pissed a the sea god.
