Will have to expand, but someone posted this gem of a reply in the forums leading up to UFC on FOX this saturday with regards to the low fighter pay

I'm not the most used explain account out there, but generally "what is the point/use/benefit of this" in martial arts compilation. And any sort of questions relating to skills and techniques in mma, kick boxing, or Bjj. I guess things like the business end of professional fighting (like with the sponsor in this post) as well.

Only an amateur fighter myself. Maybe do some regional pro stuff after I graduate school and have a little more steady schedule to get in more training. My stand-up is not up to par compared to my ground game.

can you explain the photo?
User avatar #46 to #40 - fightexplain (04/20/2014) [-]
If you where asking about the photo I posted rather than the content, it's a referense to how fighter pay is lower than that of other professional sports, while the UFC brand is quite profitable.

An entry level contract is around 8k/8k meaning they get 8,000 to fight and another 8,000 to win. Of course, they have chances at $50,000 fight of the night and performance of the night bonuses, but say a fighter goes 1 and 2, since they generally only fight 3 or even twice a year, he makes only $32,000 a year to be a professional athlete.

And often, gym and coach fees are higher than what an average person's cost of living gets to be. Even well known names have 50/50 contracts meaning they still generally make under $200,000 a year.

Only the superstars, GSP, Anderson, Jones, make multi million dollars per fight.

Fighters get paid by sponsors for advertisement. If kids grow up seeing that brand on people they want to emulate, they want to wear that type of clothing/gear.

Often, fighters wear a sweatshirt over a shirt and this allows them to sell two spaces to sponsors when they shed the outerlayer. This guy took it to the next level to get even more sponsors

I believe the photo is referencing how low the pay is for MMA fighters when compared to athletes from other sports.
User avatar #43 to #42 - imalex (04/20/2014) [-]
arent mma fighters paid very well?
User avatar #44 to #43 - knifegun (04/20/2014) [-]
Not in comparison to other athletes. I would say that their pay is very good, but for what they're actually doing, many people believe that they should get more. It varies between the fighter, though. I highly doubt that someone like Dennis Siver is paid the same as someone like Jon Jones.

how can people take their shirts off that way, it is not only harder, but you destroy the neck of the shirt, you stretch it until it can't go back to normal
#4 to #3 - telfyr ONLINE (04/19/2014) [-]
Because that is a way men take of their shirts. Women are the ones who take them off that other weird way
#5 to #4 - micekill (04/19/2014) [-]
i know, the other weird way, why do they cross their arms?
it seems so hard and full of wasted movements.
i am a man btw
best way to take off shirt
lift left arm, put left hand behind head
use right arm and grab unto left sleeve
pull up and follow the left arm so it all goes out at the same time (including head)
fastest way
User avatar #8 to #5 - Slashlord (04/19/2014) [-]
Because when they cross their arms and lift their shirt up it makes their boobs look perkier. When guys take their shirts off that way it makes the muscles in their arms look bigger.
#12 to #8 - henkstr (04/19/2014) [-]
i heard its because they instinctively try to minimize the time span in which their view is blocked by the shirt, so to avoid ************* sneakin up on em.
