Titans were the beings that ruled before the gods, they called it a golden age and it was led by Zues'(god) father, Chronos. Chronos' brother was Atlas.

Titans are considered deities. The name "Titan" was just a way to classified the children of Ouranos and Gaia. They were later overthrown by a newer generation of gods, The Olympians.

The Titans are actually gods too as many of the later greco-roman pantheon were Chronos and Rhea's children (Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, and Demeter). Though we call them "Gods" they are technically referred as an "Olympian". Though technically that also means that Hekatonkheires and Cyclopeans are gods too as they are all children of Gaia and Uranus so make of that what you will.
