Only a small portion of the covenant broke off to ally with the humans, most of these were elites, but that doesn't mean to say that ALL elites broke off. Also, what askafj said is wrong or at the very least a very watered down version of the truth. I've read the books, I got this **** .

Heh, looks like you're not going to get a straight answer... most likely just because no one knows yet.

My guess is that it has something to do with the Forerunners.

I'm not sure... But if it is a detail included in the game, I wouldn't complain. I would think that different helmets would have different visor screens based on the shape of the helmet and what the Spartan's specialized class is, but I haven't done any research into it.

The Prophet is the leader of the Covenant.
At first the Elites 'worked' for the Covenant but later on they made a truce with eachother, the Prophet 'hired' brutes instead for his army.
The Covenant and the Humans never swore truce, just the Humans and the Elites. :)

The Humans and the Elites swore truce to take down the Prophet and by destroying the Rings they (thought) would take out the flood by qutting out their food supply.

Some elites are fracturing from the main group as a rebellion against the truce. ONI may or may not be involved in subtly aiding these groups because it will destabilize the elites who they think may or may not be possible future enemies. Of course now that you know this, I'm afraid you will have to be terminated, as this information is classified top secret by Admiral Parangovski.

Yeah its in glasslands, like the first chapter. I havent gotten very far in it however. I don't want to read the NEWEST books because I want the environment and enemies and such to be a surprise and the newest series apparently has some of that.

What's your favorite of the halo books? Mine is first strike.

Fall of reach definitely... Beginning is almost always the best.

It was actually just the Elites the humans had a truce with. The Covenant replaced them with the Brutes so dey got mad.
