I like my power/speed/folk metal.
. _ .

A lot of people hate on me for that, for some odd reason.
Metal will never die.
User avatar #130 - tommygunntyler (11/22/2012) [-]
its bands like Attack Attack and Of Mice & Men that are ruining the core scene here in the U.S.
and then the U.K. has Bring Me The Horizon and Asking alexandria ruining it for them

There are good core bands (metalcore, deathcore etc.)
U.S. has After the Burial, King Conquer, Animals As Leaders
U.K. used to have Annotations Of An Autopsy (first album only, the rest is trash)

prepared for red
#131 to #130 - scotchxblock (11/22/2012) [-]
I'd have to disagree with your first statement. I mean, I'm not a big fan of Attack Attack, infact I hate almost everything about them. However, I really do enjoy Of Mice & Men. Instrumentally they're not that great, but Austin (Lead Vocals) is an amazing vocalist. He doesn't have much of a range, but he has crazy endurance when it comes to screaming.

And, my god, I love AAL.
User avatar #133 to #131 - tommygunntyler (11/23/2012) [-]
i mean yeah its not that theyre necessarily bad
i just can get into them either and around here a lot of the scene kids love OM&M
i even heard one kid refer to them as...brutal *shutters*

but hell yes AAL is tight butthole lol
BMTH actually used to be good and Asking Alexandrias first album was tolerable
but as of lately theyve been crap crap crap
#135 to #133 - scotchxblock (11/23/2012) [-]
And, as much as I love me some OM&M.

.. Brutal? wtf? No. Just. No.
#134 to #133 - scotchxblock (11/23/2012) [-]
Aha, I know, a lot of those emo-scene kids ruin it and makes OM&M look bad, aha, but they're really pretty good. I mean, again, it's not like their guitar/bass riffs are hard, or their drums are crazy, but Austin really is an amazing vocalist when it comes to endurance. His speed/flow is mind blowing, and he can hold a 20 second scream with no problem.

And, Sadly, I'll admit it, I DO have ONE Attack Attack Album on my iPod, but it's only because Austin use to scream for them. Please, don't hate me, aha.
User avatar #136 to #134 - tommygunntyler (11/23/2012) [-]
I dont really hate on anyone for their musical tastes

as long as they actually have reasons for liking them
not just because theyre played on the radio, or other people like them
my step sister is the ideal scene kid, she claims she likes Whitechapel, the black dahlia murder, the acacia strain and iwrestledabearonce (i love all those bands) but she cant name a single song by any of them
she only likes them because theyre popular

you dont seem to be that way
#137 to #136 - scotchxblock (11/23/2012) [-]
Of course man, I'm the same way. I mean, honestly, people here on the Metal-Time channel make fun of bands like Pierce the Veil and Brokencyde -- and, Don't get me wrong, I don't like either of those bands, at ******* all, however -- but if that's what people like, and they have a reason for liking them. Not because of appearance, or for some stupid reason like that, than, what ever, who cares, really? They're the ones listening to it, not me.
User avatar #138 to #137 - tommygunntyler (11/23/2012) [-]
yeah i know what u mean
then again most metal fans on here and the rest of the internet are convinced that Megadeth, Slayer and Amon Amarth are the only good metal bands in existance
"Slayer is the heaviest **** ever!!"
"do u even mosh bro?"
"Viking metal ftw"
dont get me wrong Megadeth and Amon Amarth are good but i hate close mindedness
but yeah at least theyre actually passionate about their music

anyway since ive found a metal fan thats actually tolerable to talk to
name off favorite bands?
#141 to #138 - scotchxblock (11/24/2012) [-]
Well, I'm really into Christian Metalcore, which is weird, considering I'm not the slightest bit christian. I am into some Extreme Metal, Deathcore, Southern Metal, Progressive Metal, and a little bit of Post-Hardcore. But, My Top 5:

1) The Devil Wears Prada (My very first Metal band. Christian Metalcore.)
2) Of Mice & Men (I have major respect for the Vocalist. Post-Hardcore/Metalcore)
3) August Burns Red (Another Christian Metalcore band. They're reaally creative)
4) Motionless in White (These guys are all ugly as **** , and rather emo, but I haven't found a band that sounds like them before. Gothic Metalcore)
5) Protest the Hero (Everything about these guys is just so crazy and technical. Mathcore/Progressive Metal)

As for you?
User avatar #143 to #141 - tommygunntyler (11/25/2012) [-]
well let me just say, that you dont have to be christian to love christian metal lol
and not to get in a religious debate but you dont have to categorize yourself as a christian to believe in god. I know i dont
but anyway TDWP was really my first metal band i got really into as well and I ******* love Protest the Hero

my tastes are always changing, i love deathcore, metalcore, hardcore/hardcore punk, pretty much any core but crab, i love indie rock, pop punk, techno, jazz and (inb4 butthurt and red thumbs) some dubstep
but at the moment im very much enjoying
1) The Acacia Strain (theyre currently and probably always will be my favorite band)
2) Animals As Leaders
3) Title Fight (excellent pop punk band with a grungy feel, their new album "floral green" might be one of my all-time favorite albums)
4) Xibalba (excellent hardcore band)
5) Such Gold (great great pop punk)
6) Trapped Under Ice (excellent hardcore, try their song "reality unfolds")
7) CHON (gotta be the best liquid/progessive metal band ive ever heard, check em for sure)
8) The Story So Far (great pop punk with a touch of hardcore)
9) The Wonder Years (excellent pop punk)
10) Volumes (one of my favorite metalcore bands atm with a djent sound)
11) Disfiguring the Goddess ( ******* awesome slam/death metal band with a DJ for a vocalist)
12) And Hell Followed With (like a mix of The Black Dahlia Murder and Oceano)
13) Annotations of An Autopsy (but their first album only, cant stress that enough)

and sooo much ******* more
check them all out
#147 to #143 - scotchxblock (11/26/2012) [-]
I really like AAL, but I could never really get into them as much as my other bands. Don't get me wrong, they're CRAZY good, but I could never jam out that hard to them like I would to some Protest The Hero.

I checked out a few of those bands. Xibalba is pretty good, and I really liked that Trapped Under The Ice band. I'll be sure to look up more of their stuff, for sure. Thanks for the new bands, ahaha.
User avatar #148 to #147 - tommygunntyler (11/27/2012) [-]
nice choices
theyre all excellent
i was thinking about this yesterday

if youre into christian metal try these bands as well
1) The Great Comission
2) The Gun Show
3) For Today
4) Sleeping Giant
User avatar #150 to #148 - ihatebuffering (12/09/2012) [-]
The Great Commission and Sleeping Giant are actually technically Hardcore, the "heavier evolution of Punk." But don't get me wrong, I love them. The Great Commission's first album was heavy, but the second was disappointing.
User avatar #154 to #150 - tommygunntyler (12/15/2012) [-]
i would say that Sleeping Giant is similar to hardcore but theyre both metalcore for sure

hardcore punk is more like Cruel Hand, Trapped Under Ice, Terror and Xibalba dude
thats real hardcore
User avatar #156 to #154 - ihatebuffering (12/15/2012) [-]
Also, I love you(I don't give half a **** that I don't know you) for saying The Acacia Strain is your favorite band.
User avatar #155 to #154 - ihatebuffering (12/15/2012) [-]
I don't know about that. I could understand The Great Commission being Metalcore, but Sleeping Giant leans more toward Hardcore to me. But hey, I like them either way. Green is a great vocalist and a great guy in general. I'm hoping to see them with Stick To Your Guns in January.
I'm all about Terror and Xibalba. I've heard of Trapped Under Ice, but haven't given them a listen yet. Cruel Hand is new to me. I'll check em out.
User avatar #157 to #155 - tommygunntyler (12/15/2012) [-]
thanks lol
acacia strain is sick as ****
and idk i mean if u listen to Sleeping Giant and Trapped Under Ice back to back u can definitly tell the difference
STYG is sick

yeah check out Cruel Hand and also a band called Weekend Nachos
User avatar #158 to #157 - ihatebuffering (12/15/2012) [-]
The Acacia Strain is definitely one of my favorite bands. Continent was such a great album.
Stick To Your Guns is one of those bands I just don't get tired of. Not to mention they have amazing shows.
Will do!
User avatar #159 to #158 - tommygunntyler (12/15/2012) [-]
have you heard their new album?
tight butthole dude check it out

and yeah my buddy got to see them when they played at a small place in my hometown and said they were great
i wouldnt mind seeing them
User avatar #160 to #159 - ihatebuffering (12/15/2012) [-]
Yeah I have! It's good.
You need to see them ASAP. You will have a new standard for shows.
I don't know if you've seen Born of Osiris live, but they upstage them EASILY. That's saying something.
User avatar #161 to #160 - tommygunntyler (12/15/2012) [-]
well they just got added to the Warped lineup along with The Black Dahlia Murder
so im most definitly going next year

and i had the chance to see Osiris at this years warped
but i missed them to get autographs from iwrestledabearonce since theyre also one of my favorite bands and was actually one of the first metal bands that i got into

ill catch osiris at some point though
User avatar #164 to #161 - ihatebuffering (12/15/2012) [-]
Oh nooooo, comment cap! Anyway, I am soooo jealous you've seen After The Burial, Betraying The Martyrs, and Upon A Burning Body and I haven't. God damn.
User avatar #162 to #161 - ihatebuffering (12/15/2012) [-]
I just saw that, it made me actually want to go this year.
They're really good live. I saw them at Chain Reaction in Anaheim not too long ago with I, The Breather( ******* rocked that show), Norma Jean(Mehhh, they were too loud for the venue), and The Word Alive(Always kick ass).
User avatar #163 to #162 - tommygunntyler (12/15/2012) [-]
well since wer namin off bands weve seen haha...

I listen to a few US metalcore bands like Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains and Darkest Hour. But quite a lot of metalcore I can't stand like Attack Attack, Asking Alexandria, Black Veil Brides and all the other scene ******** . I prefer my metalcore to take elements from Thrash Metal and Melodic Death Metal instead of **** from emo and techno.

I agree with what you're saying bro. But I mean, some people really like those other bands (and I don't ******* understand how, or why, but they do) and that's just their taste.

You should check out August Burns Red, Oh Sleeper, and The Devil Wears Prada. They're all amazing Metalcore bands, and some of my favorites ever.

I just realized that the three bands I mentioned are all christian bands.
P.S. I'm not Christian, I just like their music.

In my opinion, European metal is far better. A lot of American metal I have tried listening too is incomprehensible screaming with a whiny emo lead singer. Things like Suicide Silence, Attack Attack and all that crap really rustle my jimmies. Metallica and Killswitch Engage are the **** though.
