This isn't viking metal. This is melodic death metal. The origins of viking metal are Black metal, death metal, Nordic folk music, and heavy metal. Does Amon Amarth sound anything similar to black metal or Nordic folk music? Melodic death metal is death metal and the NWOBHM(new wave of British heavy metal.)

Just wondering but have you ever looked at the lyrics of this band? Every song is about something norse or viking, I don't call this Viking metal because there are other bands that are more folky than this I call it viking death metal because of the lyrics that they have although their playing style is closer to death metal.

Their genre is melodic death metal, their lyrics are viking and Norse inspired. It's like calling Megadeth "political metal" when they're the spitting image of thrash but talk about politics.

Amon Amarth is melodic death metal, not viking metal! They sing about vikings, but they're not singing viking metal! Johan Hegg said it!

Not quite the best of viking metal, but an honorable mention.
