They are paying for the name. He did a nice job getting there, but anyone who's actually really into that kind of music can tell you how many smaller artists who're at least just as good. You can even make the same music in windows movie maker, and is why musicians don't take it serious.

With that said, a lot of it should be respected. Not everything is as easy to make, and some of it sounds argumentally really good.

They use the same tracks over and over. You really shouldn't do it, but a gifted friend of mine made something pretty good instead of doing what he was supposed to, at school. If you have 10 version of each of the most used stuff, it's quite easy. Only hard part is to make it good.

If he decide to upload what he makes, I'll link you.

I think you misunderstood the point..
Skrillex probably puts a decent amount of work into his music and probably is somewhat 'talented', but he never mixes anything live, and if live mixing occurs he isn't even the one doing it. That's why he's hating. He pretends to do **** on stage when nothing is actually happening.

Bieber and Minaj are objectively terrible music.
I don't know enough about what dubstep is Skillerex and what dubstep is not to know whether he sucks, but considering it's popular, it probably does.

(And yes, as a rule, most popular things suck. To be popular, something must either be absurdly good, or cater to the lowest common denominator.)

One does not simply 'do it', there are plenty of good musicians (not saying Skrillex is a musician) that are very good at what they do, but don't do it for a living because they were never discovered. You can't just go out there and 'do it', that's not how that works.

Promoted electronic music artists for years and basically did all the PR for Contacreast.

If there is one thing I've learned its this:

Making music is ******* hard.

No no, let me explain, music theory, sound files, editing, composing, tempo, beat, length, song structure, bass, harmony, leads, synths, sines, squares, quality, compression, mastering, etc. etc. ETC.

I'm convinced it's harder than playing the violin, and how many people are capable of that?

As for Skrill his music is a bit too loud for me, but cool nonetheless.

The REAL faggots are those who don't mix, or create their own songs, and just play other peoples work.

Oh, and: Mixing music on a sound board LIVE, and having it sound good, is almost like coming up with a good song on the piano on the spot. Not easy.

I don't like skrillex much but being in the same basic line of work as him, it pisses me off when people talk about DJ's and EDM producers being talentless pricks on computers. It has taken me YEARS to learn how to properly use the various programs and equipment needed to produce the music that I want. That's not even touching mixing and DJ'ing. I will say that there are talentless hacks posing as DJ's out there *cough cough* David Guetta *cough cough* but the same can be said of all genres so stfu with the music snobbery.

Just post a picture of one of your VSTs and possibly a DAW and ask someone to make a proper sound and just one simply melody/whatever which fits said sound

******* idiots thinking it's simple..
#537 to #127 - anon (04/12/2013) [-]
Hurr durr anyone can say that for any real instrument as well. I'll give you a guitar and tell you to play a simple melody or a chord. I'll give you a saxophone, a piano, drums, anything. That argument is ******* retarded and you know it. Making music in any way is difficult and takes time to learn which is why most people never actually do it. The only difference between DJs and musicians who play an instrument is that most DJs don't have to know how to perform their music live (respect to those who do using launchpads etc.), instead they focus on various effects. This is coming from someone who plays an instrument and doesn't even like electronic music. However difficult it might be to learn using all the software and equipment, I'm still certain playing an instrument and writing full songs with all instruments is way harder than that
User avatar #539 to #537 - sarphog (04/12/2013) [-]
You're missing one major point here, asshat; I never implied that "regular" instruments require less skill (although I will now admit I do believe that), , so your ******* points kind of crumbles away.

Also, why is the ability to perform live such an important matter? A musician isn't necessarily someone who can perform live. You're just as much of a musician if you only produce .mp3s, with no talent live whatsoever.

Now, why might electronic music require more skill than any other genre? Because you can bring any ******* instrument into the world of electronic music, and not to mention that you have to design your own sound, rather than just buying an instrument which has said sound as its only preset. The genres are worlds apart.

Yes, I consider any form of mastering an electronic influence, which pretty much any music nowadays contain

My favourite type of music is metal.

Viking Metal, Pirate Metal, Scottish Metal etc are the best (Yes they exist)

Currently listening to Knife Party and I have bluegrass music as the next song in my playlist. (Man of Constant Sorrow if you want to know what song. It's really good.)

It's just music, why do people gotta be pissy?

Because what Skrillex makes is not music, he produces sound that resembles hundreds of bags of cats being attacked by an army of storm troopers.

I aint saying that I only listen to that kind of music, what I'm saying is that when I listen to old stuff from the 60's and the 70's, the stuff that plays on the radio seems to be extremely dumb and that it took no musical capability or talent to make whatsoever.

What's more difficult...

Pressing buttons on a keyboard, or using your entire body to play a drumset?
User avatar #477 to #238 - kamehamehanurd (04/12/2013) [-]
Are we really talking about difficulty? We might as well shun off ever bass playerknown to man then.
User avatar #489 to #477 - Ottovan (04/12/2013) [-]
takes more effort and talent to play the drums.
