Now odin rides his son
User avatar #15 to #8 - thechosentroll (02/16/2014) [-]
So, doesn't that mean Odin rides his own grandson around?
#19 to #15 - shadowgandalf (02/16/2014) [-]
No, Loke is not a son of Odin, he is Odins blood brother.
Loke is essentially both Thors adoopted brother, and uncle.
User avatar #20 to #19 - thechosentroll (02/16/2014) [-]
Still counts as a grandson, biological or otherwise.
#22 to #20 - shadowgandalf (02/16/2014) [-]
No, that would make the horse count as Odins nephew, not grandson.

Family trees like those confuse the **** out of me.
#28 to #26 - shadowgandalf (02/16/2014) [-]
For simplicity you could just think of Loke as Odin's brother.

The story behind Sleipner . Loki had turned himself into a female horse in order to spy on someone ( don't know who), while in female horse form he was raped by a male horse! Odin found this out and forced Loki to stay in female horse form until he had given birth to his son Sleipner.

Actually, they made a bet with a constructor that he could not create a monument within...Some amount of time, I don't remember. When they realised he was actually going to finish in time, they had loki deliberately turn into a female horse and 'distract' the constructor's horse, so he could not get the work done.

Well yeah, that's the most wellknown and documented story but it just irks me when people try to correct people when it comes to myths. Just saying, pretty much all myths haven't been written down many years after being first told. There are a lot of different versions of the story.

Actually, it was a wall around Asgard, not a monument. The builder's asking price for building an impenetrable wall was the sun, moon, and Freyja's hand in marriage; while Odin was set to reject his offer, Loki convinced him to take it. When it appeared that the builder would finish on time, Loki was forced to find a way to delay him, so that Freyja would not be forced to marry him. Which is when he turned into a mare, and led the builder's work horse away so he couldn't finish.

To build the walls of asgard they contacted a master builder. The bet was if he could finish the walls in three days by himself with only the help of his horse he would win Freya as his wife. The days go by and he's in the final stretch it's obvious he's going to win the bet. The Asgardians don't want to fulfill their part of the bargain so send Loki to ensure he doesn't finish in time. Loki takes the form of a mare and the horse goes wild with lust and chases after Loki (eventually chasing him down and impregnating him). Without the aid of his horse the master build doesn't finish in the deadline and the Asgardians don't have to pay. Loki eventually gives birth to a 8 legged horse that Odin takes as his personal steed.

Pretty much the only one of loki's kids that won't/doesn't cause mass destruction. His daughter Hel rules her own realm where she gets a portion of the dead (as a side note "Go to Hel" means to die). His son Fenrir is a giant wolf that is destined to kill Odin, he's bound but he'll eventually escape during Ragnarok. Jörmungandr is the world serpent that grew large enough to encircle the world and grasp his own tail. When he lets go the world will end and he'll rise up poison the sky and fight Thor to the death during Ragnarok. Thor will win and then succumb to Jormungandr's venom.

Whoa whoa whoa. Loki really is what you'd call a free spirit (as in a nice slut), and has loads of good kids. Loki has given birth to a whole race of mostly friendly creatures. Trolls are real nice in Danish, upper German, and Dutch folklore. And although they aren't that nice in other cultures there, they still have their counterparts there.

huh didn't know he was related to trolls at all. Thanks.
