this didn't really feel like a hfy story.
Were is the humans being awesome?

or did I fail majorly and misread?

While it wasnt the best example, the humans in this story were okay with knowing their life will leave nothing behind besides a few short memories that will disappear forever and leave no impact. Which is why the human-like race is so much more advanced, they were always trying to leave an impact in the world. Yet with the new knowledge given they learned that no matter how big an impact they make it wont matter in the end after the universe ends.
